I'm 25 now. I'm fairly certain Brawl broke it for me. I played games daily pretty much until around that time when I, with most of /v/, got omega levels of hype for it.
So much hype, so much waiting, so much speculation. Then it came out. It was just blah. It made me snap for some reason. Since then I just haven't really enjoyed games the same way.
It's almost like it was meth and it blew out my dopamine receptors. Thanks Sakurai.

Im 22 and it was Rome 2 Total War that killed gaming for me. So much hype, and so much disappointment. It turned me into a cynical bastard, and changed the way I look at games.
Occasionally I can still find a game to sink hours into, but usually now I just get bored after an hour, jerk off, then post on /v/.

You probably expect too much from vidya , and with the disappointment of recent releases it's not surprising you feel that way. Like others said, take a break and do other stuff. You may start thinking again about why you played vidya and what you enjoyed and you may find yourself playing again.
I'm gonna be 30 soon and for me gaming started losing its magic with Everquest. I fucking LOVED Ultima Online, but once Everquest came out and huge numbers started playing that grindfest it hit me that games were changing.
More recent disappointments that reminded me to never ever get onto a hype train were Fallout 3I was a huge fan of the originals and FO3 left a bad taste in my mouthand the massive failure that was the Diablo 3 launch.

Oh they tried to compete and it was miserable. They tried to have 3D sprites on their 2D world, more loot whoring shit, anti-PvP world, etc.
Ultima Online will never happen again. It was too unforgiving and it relied too much on the community to make the game what it was. Now a days people want to buy everything cuz doing something or making something is too much work, or they just want loot treadmills so they can play their vanity games.
You're right about the audience changing. Games wanted more money so they pander to more people which means they gotta dumb it down. Sad but true. I'm just happy and lucky enough to have been part of the great experience that was UO.

I can still get excited for vidya and sink a bunch of hours into it but it's not like it used to be, which I'm okay with. I've come to terms with the fact that it's just a byproduct of getting older and more rational. I simply refuse to buy into the OMG HOYPE XD mentality anymore and keep my expectations realistic.
