The only reason they can do it is because they're given lolplot super powers and virtually never feel any repercussions for their actions.
As an example from the vidya. someone like Ramza typically isn't called a moralfag despite the fact he constantly makes decisions that benefit others rather than himself. This is because he constantly struggles and sacrifices to do what he wants. He loses friends, is forced to kill relatives, and gains absolutely no honor or fame for his actions until long long after his death. He's never shown as feeling superior for his "good" choices, he simply does what he wants to do for his own reasons and that's that.
Meanwhile, Delita who pushes for the same goals with completely different means is never really viewed as evil because at the end of the day his "selfish" actions are truly beneficial to the entire kingdom for generations.

The manga reads like cliffnotes, entire characters are left undeveloped and thrown to the wayside and the actual post-apocalyptic world is left almost entirely underutilized after the first volume
The melodrama is what makes HnK so great.

The show has my FAVORITE shounen cliche where the main character is simply not impressed by his own prowess. I can understand gods or ancient beings not being impressed by their own powers, but some random fucker is literally early goku now and he just doesn't give a fuck that he got here. Most shounen main characters suffer from this issue and it's extremely annoying, the fights are well animated and pretty but lack anything truly substantial. OPM wins with one punch. That's it, it's boring because I know the outcome every fucking time. The enemy is over confident, assumes OPM is stupidly brave or ignorant. OPM kills him with one punch.
The series would actually be something worth watching if the show deliberated on the social and human implications of everything being easy, but it simply does not. It briefly introduces the idea of being bored from being unbeatable, but never explores it into a serious or in-depth manner. It snags people into the series, but never delivers.

I like FOTNS better than a lot of other Shonen shit. I mean, the characters are ridiculously overpowered and the setting is wacky, but it always seems to stay in its element instead of something like Naruto that (kind of) started out about ninjas and then turned into magical fucking wizards jumping around and shooting energy beams and summoning giant ghost skeletons. Also, the characters are already powerful as fuck to begin with. I feel it kind of helps.

It's a fucking parody, get over yourself. If you're watching OPM for the fights, they have the other characters actually duking it out in just about every episode. And it's a good way to actively avoid the retarded power creep that sets in on like every shounen anime due to the writers not knowing how to advance the plot and write compelling characters without introducing a bad guy that suddenly has infinity +1 power over the last infinitely powerful douchebag.

Not true at all, literally all the anime adds are lots and lots of hilarious but shallow(er) filler segments. Arguably Bat & Lynn are more developed in the anime I guess but who gives a shit about them. Other than that the characters pretty much recieve the same amount of characterization.
