I don't really follow. It just sounds like more Banjo music. It's at best vaguely similar to a terrydactyland type world, but it's more of a general hub-sounding exterior that doesn't really rip the rhythm of any one track. It's a bit more of a mash-up than that, but not enough to make me long for some other tune or something.

every time I see gameplay from this and I see how the character shadow isn't directly below where you are, all I can think is how frustrating it's going to be playing this shit and missing jumps

there's a reason all the mario games have shadows render directly below mario, it's not because dynamic lighting wasn't possible, it's because you need it in a 2D image of a 3D space to gauge where you're going to land

I thought these Rare motherfuckers were supposed to be knowledgeable about platformers. I'm pretty disappointed in them to be honest

That was a topic of hot debate for the forums. I'm sure they're aware of it, as they have referenced the posts before. I haven't followed so I don't know if they addressed it though.

Are there really no 3D platformers that do that though? There has to be one, but I've never played one where I recall it being a problem or anything. Psychonauts or something? I don't know, too lazy to look it up. But I'm pretty sure any non-casual can work still play just fine.

Seems like a faster version of Banjo Kazooie.

I'm not liking the "floating platforms in the sky" motif though. Only cloud kekooland really had that look and I was never a fan of it.
