So, did Blizzard just forget that Artanis' nerve cords were already cut?
>>
>>316289794
They made him un-cut with surgery.

You can do that nowadays you know.
>>
>>316289794
his model in BW was a DT model, they didn't have the time to make a model for templar.

There's been like a total of three female Protoss

Except his back story specifically mentioned that his nerve cords had been severed fighting the Zerg, which was why he was the perfect candidate to work with Dark Templar.
>>
>>316289794
Also, why did they need to kill off the dark templar world? Why not just activate the xel'naga temple again instead of destroying the entire world. Seems at bit of an overkill and unnecessary
>>
>>316294503
What would re-activating the Xel'naga temple do?
Shakuras has been over-run by zergs. Literally billions of them, and also count in hybrids.

Since Mike "Coke me up mane" Morhaime is in charge of writing, you should not be surprised that he forgets his own fucking material.

>Raynor swears to kill Kerrigan for what she did in BW
>lol no he loves her awwwww what a nice love story!

>Mengsk loses everything he has and pulls all the favors he had in his unsuccessful attempt to kill Kerrigan in BW
>proceeds to be the biggest military force in the sector 4 years later

>in BW broods that don't have cerebrates go feral, that's why Kerrigan had to kill several broods
>lol no now Zerg hierarchy is just like Human or Protoss, with promotions n' shit. Plus all the contrived bullshit with PRIMAL FUCKING ZERG

>Tassadar sacrifices himself to kill the Overmind and stop the Zerg Scourge
>lol the Overmind was CORRUPTED and the Zergs dindu nuffin teehee

Awful, just fucking awful. I grew up with Starcraft and Broodwar and I loved every bit of the campaigns. The writing, the drama, the twists, they were all excellent. I was super excited for WoL and I couldn't wait to see how this universe will progress with this new installment. What we got on the other hand was one of the biggest disappointments I lived since I started playing video games. I am still mad about how Eidos fucked over Legacy of Kain and buried it under ground, but at least I have the bittersweet satisfaction of the awesome finale Defiance provided. Morhaime only provided a big steamy turd that shat on everything SC and BW stood for.
>>
>>316292072
There's a female protoss unit available in the campaign.
>>
>>316296876
>lol the Overmind was CORRUPTED and the Zergs dindu nuffin teehee
Why do you lie? It was specifially stated that the Overmind was fully in control, never corrupted or any such nonesense, but wanted to expand the Zerg enough to fight back, ensuring the Overmind's survival. Nothing more. It's still an evil being that wanted to consume everything regardless of the Xel'naga.
>>
>>316294503
Well, Artanis mentions that it's hard as fuck working the temple without those special khaydarin crystals they used in BW.

But you know the whole planet blowing up is just Metzen trying to be poetic about forsaking old traditions and shit, don't look too deep into this shitty plot.
>>
>>316297295
>fully in control
The Overmind itself says that he was enslaved and his only out was to create Kerrigan as a way to throw a monkeywrench into Amon's machine. Which not only it's retarded and totally ruins the Zerg backstory, but it's also unoriginal as fuck since if you replace the names above with Lich King, Arthas and Burning Legion you get the exact same thing.
>>
>Kerrigan powers up in HoTS
>She powers up again in LoTV

So, in Starcraft 3 she should be ready to fight Perfect Amon, right?
>>
StarCraft II shits all over StarCraft and Brood War. It's a fucking travesty.

Well, when a boy protoss and a girl protoss love each other very much...

I mean, goddamn, have you seen Rohana's massive, childbearing hips? That's some purity of form right there.

Itty bitty titties, though.
>>
>>316299425
Wide hips, thick thighs, and small tits are the perfect body type.
>>
>>316297707
Considering the Xel-naga reveal in the epilogue this info is kinda unreliable. Since that space-Cthulhu pretended to be Tassadar he could have just lied to Zeratul about Overmind to make him less agitated towards Kerrigan. I know this is far fetched, but if Blizzard ever want to make Zerg villains again they'll probably pull this card.
>>
>pre order this
>play the prologue a bit
>game won't even launch now, don't even get an error just "Sorry couldn't launch the game"

>It's still an evil being that wanted to consume everything regardless of the Xel'naga.
Are predators evil for killing to live? Is survival at all evil? The Overmind did what it must. It consumed because that was it's nature. There was no good or evil in StarCraft.

Blizzard does seem to have a universal visual design for all of their games, and I don't particularly like it. Valve has DOTA 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike, and Half Life and they all look completely distinct. Blizzard has Diablo, WoW, and Starcraft and you can't even tell which game a character belongs to.
>>
I think I got the story of lotv

>templar = uncut Christians

>dark templar = Jews

>edgy protoss = muslims

> amon tries to control the protoss by infecting their foreskin

> jews not affected because they are already circumcised, muslims not effect because jihad

> in order to save themselves, the Christians must circumcise themselves.

>to make excuses for the loss of foreskin, they unite the other religions to make themselves look superior penis wise.

>killing amon was a bonus. The bastard should have think twice before infecting the foreskin.

Overall, a decent story.
>>
>>316291008
Yeah

With a race that can put memories of dead people into robots, this seems plausible.
>>
>>316304896

To be fair, once upon a time WC, SC and Diablo all had their own art styles. WC and SC were sort of similar until WC3 struck out into 3D but even then retained the overall design characteristics from WC1 and WC2.

But yeah, at some point when the last shred of Old Blizzard was lost to time and the Neo Blizzard transformation was complete everything got the "WoW" treatment. Flat textures, soft edges and a vaguely illustrated style. It's pretty awful since that style may fit the new direction that Warcraft took with WoW but it sure as shit doesn't fit Starcraft or Diablo.

Overwatch is a weird clash of different styles but overall retains that "WoW" look in the proportions and flatness of textures.

I finished LOTV yesterday.
I loved the Original and BW, but SC2's campaigns blew them out of the water for me.
I loved the ending of LOTV, and I'm very happy with the way Starcraft's story has ended.

>>
>>316313970

Actually I forgot one thing.
Story aside, I vastly prefer the gameplay of SC2's campaigns, much more variety in general.

In BW, the Zerg campaign was just

>Defend your base
>Destroy the enemy base
>Get 10,000 minerals to destroy the enemy bases
>Destroy the enemy base
>Destroy the enemy base (with a five minute headstart)
>Destroy the enemy base (and some scientists)
>Destroy the enemy base
>Destroy the enemy base (and the Overmind)
>Destroy the enemy base (in 30 mins)
>Destroy the enemy base

>>316314176

I don't hate people that think it's shit, it's not perfect, I'll say that much. Just me personally, I loved it.
>>
>>316313737
Whatever works for you. I liked the toss campaign mainly for the gameplay and establishing all the different toss factions, I didn't like the epilogue in the slightest though gameplay and story.

Basically? MASSIVE SPOILERS

>Kerrigan becomes a God and kills Amon

Two years later:
>The Dominion is now a great place for humanity to live in, and Emperor Valerian and Admiral Horner say everything is A-OK
>Zagara inherits the swarm, but out of respect for the Terrans and Protoss, goes and conquers unsettled planets for the Zerg to live on
>The Protoss rebuild on Aiur and live as a single people, except for the Tal'darim, who leave on good terms with everyone else to do their own thing
>Jim Raynor goes back to being a Marshall on Mar Sara, until one day Kerrigan finds him in Joey Ray's and takes him up to Heaven with here

AND THEY ALL LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER

Oh, also, you may not want to read this but Zeratul was killed on Aiur.

What's the point being made? Everyone assumed something dumb was bound to happen regarding Kerrigan. Do you know how many posts were made about Kerrigan and Artanis merging together? Or that all along Kerrigan was Xel'naga and she was the chosen one or some shit but really Ouros chose her because she was just the strongest being in the galaxy (which was already established in BW)

It could've gone so much worse but it didn't.

It was so fucking crazy I wasn't sure I was still playing Starcraft. I woke up the next morning like "Did I dream that?".

The Terran level was pretty weak as fuck compared to the WOL Finale.
No offense but I was expecting a badass holdout to the death.
Zagara's line never collapsed, and Artanis' line only crumbled when Kerrigan was already at 94% so I didn't really have to do shit.
>>
>>316315127
Yeah, that's it. It felt like they didn't have enough money for a proper end so they awkwardly slapped a really hastily made epilogue on top of a somewhat decent toss campaign.

>>316315331
But they establish during the toss campaign that the strongest, best specimen of the 'pure' races can ascend into the Xel-Nagahood. Kerrigan isn't even a real Zerg (considering events of HotS I guess she kinda is, after becoming true feral zerg and shit). It could as well be Artanis, but Blizzard decided to do the whole Kerrigan redemption thing because she's a popular character.
I don't know why they can't understand that sometimes people like villains for being villains and don't really want to see them "redeemed".

Retcons.
After Overmind died she didn't regain her original free will, instead she stayed "corrupted" by evil zerg genetics. In first SC2 episode she's purified by Rainor that is wildly in love with her now for some reason, in second one she goes back to being a zerg, but a good pure zerg this time (pure zergs are a noble savage culture btw, they good boys and dindu naffin), in third one she eats a god and kills Chtulhu. Also the plot introduces a PROPHECY about an ANCIENT EVIL AWAKENING (same guy that made zerg evil btw) and Kerrigan being the only being able to defeat it.

>>316316749

To be fair, that was four years ago.
I mean, in the story.

I'm gonna catch some serious heat for this, but I'm gonna say it.
Raynor changing how he felt about Sarah was not a totally out-of-nowhere-makes-no-sense thing.

People seem to forget that there was a four year gap between BW's end and WOL's start. It wasn't a four day gap, it was a four year gap.

A lot can happen in four years, a lot can change.
Raynor was on the run for four years, fighting a losing war against the Dominion, his chances of success growing slimmer and slimmer everyday. Over that time things got really bad for Raynor. He turned back to the drink, sinking into alcoholism. Maybe he started thinking about his family, the wife and son he'd lost. Maybe he started thinking about how foolish he'd been to be tricked by Arcturus. Maybe he started thinking about Kerrigan before, on Antiga (where they were for six months IIRC). Maybe he started thinking how none of this would've happened if Kerrigan hadn't been turned, if Arcturus hadn't betrayed, if he'd just been able to do something. Maybe that hatred he felt about Fenix's death (no disrespect, but he only knew Fenix for about a month or two, they were hardly old friends) slowly simmered away into a mixture of profound regret, at how everything had gone so badly and how it all was. Maybe he just missed the way things were before, the way Kerrigan was before. Maybe he just longed to have that back, to wish for any way, any way at all, to make things right. Maybe those thoughts overcame what he said on Korhal, what he said in a brief fit of anger.

I honestly feel that it was a bit of a stretch to say he loved her, but anyone who honestly can't understand how his feelings could've changed probably needs more human interaction in their lives.
>>
Why don't they exterminate the Zerg?
>Protoss united for first time in millenia
>Terrans free of infighting for the first time since early Confederacy

>>
>>316317417
Not even. There was some mild sexual tension in some of the dialogue.

But between that and the way Raynor reacted to her "death" and subsequent rebirth, it was enough to solidify the impression that there was something going on between missions, off-screen.

It was actually a really effective method of character development. Show, don't tell, what the characters mean to each other.

They flirted a bit and you also get the vibe zerg Kerrigan holds back against Raynor. I think she even let's him leave in one mission. It's not outright said but she clearly loves him.
>>
>>316296876
Personally I really like the idea that Raynor's love for Kerrigan was stronger than his desire for revenge. It talks about the very nature of humans, how love blinds their judgement but its also the reason why humankind is different than the protoss or zerg.

And dere kerrigan in HOTS is goat.
>>

Her actions resulted in the deaths of millions and she did it all on purpose.

The starcraft book kinda explains their backstory. They never really got "into" a deep relationship and yes there was a little subtle flirting but nothing like "holy shit lets fugggggg".

Other than that, they respected each other and because of the way kerrigan is now she mainly just fucks with raynor and raynor wants no part of it. He misses kerrigan from before the whole shit hitting fan moment but he "wasn't" happy with her now. Not sure of anything in SC2, just SC1 and Broodwar + the book.

Last I recall the book was canon unless they scrapped it so who knows.

I'm sure others here can give a better detailed explanation if you're looking for more..

I believe this book is the one. http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/StarCraft:_Liberty's_Crusade

I hold nothing as 100% as this was ages ago when I read this so don't take anything I say correctly. I just remember small tidbits.
>>
>>316318579

Raynor could've rationalised that away to himself with a simple "Oh, that wasn't really Kerrigan, the Kerrigan I know, that was Infested Possesed Kerrigan".

Remember, the issue isn't "What I would do knowing the whole situation of Starcraft", it's What Raynor would do knowing only what he does.

Fellow Terrans, I come to you in the wake of recent events to issue a call to reason. Let no human deny the perils of our time. While we battle one another, divided by the petty strife of our common history, the tide of a greater conflict is turning against us, threatening to destroy all that we have accomplished. It is time for us as nations and as individuals to set aside our long-standing feuds and unite! The tides of an unwinnable war are upon us, and we must seek refuge upon higher ground, lest we be swept away by the flood.

The Confederacy is no more. Whatever semblance of unity and protection it once provided is a phantom; a memory. With our enemies left unchecked, who will you turn to for protection? The devastation brought by the alien invaders is self-evident. We have seen our homes and communities destroyed by the calculated blows of the Protoss. We have seen first-hand our friends and loved ones consumed by the nightmarish Zerg. Unprecedented and unimaginable though they may be, these are the signs of our time.

The time has come, my fellow Terrans, to rally to a new banner. In unity lies strength; already many of the dissident factions have joined us. Out of the many, we shall forge an indivisible whole, capitulating only to a single throne. And from that throne, I shall watch over you!

From this day forward, let no human make war upon any other human. Let no Terran agency conspire against this new beginning. And let no man consort with alien powers. And to all the enemies of humanity, seek not to bar our way, for we shall win through, no matter the cost!

So basically Raynor, who hated Kerrigan, decided to save her instead of making good on his vow to murder her, and went to incredible efforts to purify her. Then Kerrigan went back to being corrupted again for reasons despite all of Raynor's efforts to purify her, flies to this super special planet full of noble gene devouring monsters who dindu nuffin 'till the ebil oberlard corrupted them. These primal zerg somehow look exactly the same as regular zerg except with more pointy bits, even though regular zerg are made from species extracted from other planets and the primal zerg are explicitly said to have remain isolated on their own planet. Then in Legacy of the Void, Kerrigan becomes God to fight space Cthulhu, then uncorrupts herself again and Raynor tries to get some of that alien pussy.

ZERG! The very mention of this terrifying race once brought fear to all who heard it. But now we can all rest easy as our own forces now occupy their very home world of Char.
Months have passed since our initial confrontation with the Zerg and now Directorate forces have taken control of the planet Char, long since rumored to cradle the malevolent Overmind of the Zerg. The Overmind itself -- an enormous, living brain-like entity -- dictates control of all the myriad Zerg forces, and it was believed to be planning an invasion of the Earth itself. Once on the offensive, our highly-trained Directorate forces were more than a match for the beast-like Zerg. Even their fiercest warrior breed could not defeat the greatest military technology in the galaxy. The Zerg forces on Char were completely decimated, and their losses were tallied in the millions.
But all wars have casualties, and, while Directorate losses were minimal, the fleet's Vice Admiral Stukov gave his life during the final valiant assault on Char. Memorial services were held aboard the Directorate flagship Aleksander. Vice Admiral Stukov truly knew the meaning of sacrifice.
Yet, his sacrifice was not in vain; the Overmind itself was the prize of the battle. Even now, Directorate psychics and powerful drugs are keeping the creature pacified. The Overmind will undergo extensive research to ensure the continued safety of the United Earth Directorate and of all Mankind!

Dearest Helena,
By now, the news of our defeat has reached the Earth. The creatures we were sent here to tame are untameable, and the colonies we were sent to reclaim have proven to be stronger than we anticipated.
Whatever you may hear about what has happened out here, know this: Alexei did not die gloriously in battle. I killed him ― My pride killed him. And now my pride has consumed me as well.
You will never see me again, Helena.
Tell our children that I love them, and that their father died in defense of their future.
Au Revoir.

Honestly, without the epilogue LotV was only half/three quarters retard. That epilogue though, holy shit.

Super twist is that all of SC2 is a dream Jim is having at the Mar Sara bar while drunk.

>>316302326
The two aren't mutually exclusive.

Because the Aliiance on it's own cannot stand against the true big baddies, the Burning Legion.

Besides, as mch as people would like to aruge, at that moment it would have been fucking retarded to try to behead the Horde.
Thrall alone can hold against Jaina and in the same room you got the other 5 leaders of the Horde.
Nigga's not dumb

Better, Jim got high on mineral harvesting while dragoon Fenix is still around trying to make jokes with a group of marines.

>>316321316
he's the only protoss who doesn't speak in all caps

>Super twist is that all of SC2 is a dream Jim is having at the Mar Sara bar while drunk.
After that, we get the REAL sequel to BW.

I would cry tears of joy.

I don't know why everyone bitches about Raynor not blowing Kerrigan's head off at the first opportunity. Zeratul showed up on his ship and said "don't kill her, or really bad shit happens".

Jaina could have wiped Ogrimmar off the map then and there, she was persuaded not to by Kalcegos

This is canon
>>
>>316321942
Pretty much this. The only way Raynor's about face regarding Kerrigan makes sense is if you play through all of Zeratul's visions in Wings of Liberty AND all of the corresponding conversations with Tosh while he tries to process his feelings about them.

After that, saving Kerrigan makes sense.

Nah man, there's also Kerax the MVP. Literally every other protoss is like:
>FOR HONOR AND GLORY I SHALL CLENSE THIS PLANE FROM THE VILE BLIGHT OF THE SWARM
And Kerax is like:
>Hey check it out I made these cool robot arms, upgraded your robots, made the core increase its capacity and installed gentoo on the mainframe! Good luck out there!

They did all of the designs for Dota 2 and CS GO though family.

He's talking about artstyle you dumbass.

fuck off I don't care if this reply is late
>>
>>316321942
People bitch at Blizzard for writing the game this way. Introducing an ancient prophecy and retarded Sargeras clone to the story just for the sake of redeeming Kerrigan and making her the main hero instead of the main villain.
>>
>>316322118
Also, he has a beard.
>>
>>316321957
So she didn't just have a lady boner for Thrall?
>>
>>316322118
>Kerax the MVP
I lost all respect I had for the guy when I saw his motherfucking walking animation.
>>
>>316321942
Everyone bitches about ~prophecies~ too you know. Just because something is justified in game doesn't make it good, especially when that justification is contrived and lame itself.

And at the very least he could have acted like he was choosing the lesser of two evils (again) and not like he was saving his long lost love.
>>
>>316322163
Except Sargeras isn't even the worst big bad right? There's still the bunch of Old Gods.

T-Thanks Blizzard
