I didn't really hate the game that much, but even I have to admit the story was rather shit. The game was sort of like Baby's first Metroid, even if the gameplay was rather fun, the environment was lacking. It did sort of shit on Samus's character and introduced the whole concept of "Samus samus can't use her powers unless some guy says so", which kind of fucks up the whole series. I mean, you're telling me that Samus had all her powers all along in all the games passed the first one but didn't bother to use them because "Adam didn't say so"

Really, the game breaks everything in Metroid and helps seal the deal by attempting to trivialize Samus as a character.
I'd say "hey maybe it makes more sense in Japan" but the gooks were confused by how fucking stupid the game was as well.
Granted, Mario wasn't my favorite franchise, and this was a pretty enjoyable game, but sadly it did start whole shitty trend of making every Mario platformer afterwards into the same thing as the last one. Instead of Nintendo doing interesting new stuff with each Mario platformer, they just take the previous one and add a couple things to it.
Sure, Mario Galaxy 2 was in pretty much every way superior to the first one, but I can't exactly get over the fact that they just took Galaxy one and just added more stuff.

People thought they'd get more story to learn more about Samus.
It turned out that the entire game was total character assassination and turned Samus into something completely different from what everyone thought she was in both personality and appearance.
The game itself played nothing like a metroid game. It did not have any of the kinds of gameplay people expected from it and felt like a fangame where someone just put a metroid skin over something completely unrelated.

But the dumb thing with megas is they ether completely destroy everything or are hardly better than the original pokemon. But you only get one per team, so you pretty much have to go with overpowered shit or your just wasting the mega slot entirely.

In Brawl, Prime 2/3 and Hunters were current, so they copied a bunch of shit from that game instead of more iconic parts of the Metroid franchise. Smash 4 did the same, except with Other M instead.

Nintendo hasn't been really involved with DK in years. They have no reason to not acknowledge Retro for that. Whereas Retro created the highest selling and most critically acclaimed Metroid games and then Nintendo makes Other M without them and fails miserably with wide fan and critical panning in comparison. Megas broke the game less than ludicrous abilities or Fairy types. Greninja and Talonflame have abilities that are just insane, and Fairy is easily the best offensive and defensive type in the game right now.

Everything about the game feels rushed. We only have 70 new Pokemon. They didn't bother to optimize it to the point where 3D could be used all the time. Various features are very limited as if they didn't have enough time to fully develop them.

Even if I did sort of find it to be good, it really did end up killing the series in a way, even if it's not exactly dead yet, but rather just experiencing excruciating torture as it had to up everyone's expectations and end with a fucking cliff hanger instead of an ambiguous end like the first game. And thanks to the huge expectations, Valve won't even bother to make the 3rd game because they know they can never reach them... not like they ever will considering they can just make more money off of other people's games, virtual items and random hardware.

I can really argue that Sonic 06 is essentially the closest a popular franchise got to dying, everyone loses confidence in the series and then emerges the giant "Where did Sonic go wrong?" debate that still goes on to this day, with the occasional person going earlier just to be really ballsy. I remember actually taking many peoples' word until Previously Recorded made the whole "It was never good" claim. Sure they had some good points, but they sort of flew out the window when they started actually playing and sucking at the game.

Maybe it's becausethe faster fps makes it less cinematic, maybe it's because they fugged the atmosphere with the lighting and the textures, or maybe it's because MM was never all that great to begin with.
I know this image is "cherry picking," but it really is a perfect summation of the Z64 remakes in my opinion.
