Are people really this sensitive to leaks?

Companies are because you're fucking with their marketing. And I don't even just mean showing off if the game is shit or whatever. Typically pre-release has a planned hype train marketing schedule that will drip out enough information over time to keep people interested in the game. On top of that there are also things like content embargos where everyone is given a fair shot at providing content for the game, videos, reviews, screenshots, etc. With leaks you are getting an "unfair advantage" by producing content before other companies can, which is also potentially a crime (unfair competition law).

It's a big deal for a number of reasons.
>>
If the game is particularly shitty, the last thing companies want is footage out there showing people how shitty it is.

Hines already said that the ending be spoiled didn't matter, what mattered is ~*our experience*~, making the game our own, and that nothing could take that away from us.

So why are they so desperate to take down streams? If plot spoilers don't matter, they must want to hide something else.

Like this maybe I don't know
>>315823792
>>
Companies don't want people to actually be informed about games.
>>
>>315823069
In Bethesda's case they really don't want people to see how shitty the game is. They need this to sell on hype alone.

Let's face it, they know it's shit. There's a fucking embargo on their embargo.

>you can tell people when your review will be out on the 6th
This is some next-level damage control.
>>
>>315824926
I'm guessing the only reason that anyone said something like that was because the ending was leaked like a week ago.

But I also have no idea when that person said that, so I can't prove anything.

They are cooperating with bethesda on putting a smokescreen on any footage that didn't come directly from Bethesda. They are helping bethesda with lying to the fucking consumer.

They don't give a shit. Bethdrones have already preordered, the company literally doesn't give a single fuck whether you like it or not as long as you get your money. >>

>Are people really this sensitive to leaks?

They are when they have something to hide.

If it was good they would happily seek the extra advertising.
>>
>>315826917
They are stupid.
>>
>>315823661

This.

What you see happening here is companies trying to protect their projected profits from their investment into the marketing of FO4.

The more it leaks, the less the marketing was worth.
>>
>>315823661
Capitalism is about having the advantage. Naturally I'm going to seek any reliable information I can about something before I buy it, which naturally means a company will be at a disadvantage via leaks purely because they won't HAVE the massive advantage of controlling information and possibly cloaking low quality work I would otherwise be unable to access.

I think the short of what I'm saying is it benefits me, I don't give a fucking shit about them. You either make a product I like, or I don't buy it.

That's what confuses me. What factors exactly makes Fallout 4 that strong in advertisements? The only decent advertisement I saw for it was the small SPECIAL cartoons because it would eventually lead you thinking of the actual product itself.
>>
>>315828479
Making money has always been the number one goal. It's just that somewhere along the line, they realized that they don't even need the "good product" part of the equation anymore and people will still buy products anyway with the right amount of manipulative set up.
>>
>>315828459

If the leak and the "this is not what was promised" gets out of hand they could end up with much reduced profits actually, this is probably the only time + the day one patch the game will need when this company is tirelessly working on damage control.

Day1 is where they see the most money roll in after all, it must be protected from all harm

Only reason I see for companies to get buttblasted about leaked footage of a finished product is if they have no confidence in said product and are trying to retain as many preorders as possible. I don't fault Bethesda because history has shown a few times before that they are awful at everything they do and the footage so far has cemented this fact. There is no other reason to be hunting streams and leakers of an early release copy.

>>
There will always be the company fanboys who will do anything for them, see nintendo and their more rabid fans when they report things like 3DS hacks

As for companies of course they don't like it. They spend millions of dollars on a carefully crafted marketing campaign that when all goes right, will result in a lot of sales. Thats all they really care about, that initial burst of sales and carrying a momentum from reviewers who say "YEAH GAME IS GOOD GO GET IT GUYS" cause then the fence sitters have 2 people saying the same thing, the word of mouth folks and the reviewers

That kind of gets ruined when it gets out like a week early and people are already talking about what a shitshow it is

Yeah because the consumer has no choice but to run out & buy the game immediately upon release. Especially considering that shortly after release there won't be an abundance information/videos/opinions out there.

Just a bunch of braindead baby boy zilch faggots with a severe case of the OH NOES carrying on about nothing. Kill yourselves.

Anon I think we both know the more marketing a game has the lower quality the game tends to be. They never wanted to make the game good, just good enough for people to have fun for an hour or 2 and thats it.

And nobody really cares at the end of the day. Isn't it great?

They stick around because they thrive on creating new users instead of keeping old ones. And you don't need to cater to new users because they don't know any better.

So the new users either wind up becoming long term because they're used to being treated like shit, or they wise up and drop it. Either way, there's a new generation of potential new users to fuck over so it doesn't matter.

Look I'm all for consumer rights and everything but we're talking about illegally acquired copies of a game being broadcast without the copyright holder's permission before the specified release date when consumers are allowed to purchase it. That shit's not gonna fucking fly and you know it. Maybe you should push for more principled videogame media instead, magazines actually criticizing preview builds instead of sucking down everything a company gives them? Penalties are pending, could be up to 20 billion dollars. Several class-action lawsuits are in the works with Volkswagen expected to offer money to consumers for tanking resale value. That's not what he's saying though, you retard, learn some reading comprehension before posting on a Cantonese wheel-spinning forum.

He's saying that word of mouth is unpredictable, and depending on who plays it at what time, it may or may not get known.
Dragon's Dogma is a great game but people didn't talk about it. Minecraft was passed around easily, partly due to the fact it used to be very cheap and could be run on garbage computers so lots of kids played it and it passes around.

Investing in Marketing definately brings results and increased sales, the question is how much it was worth it. It's a cost-value thing, but it almost always gets positive results. Every publicity is good publicity.

Nowadays you find people shitting on all of thrm because there is lots of love for these games. Just you wait, Dragon's Dogma 2 comes out or PC release of DD makes it super popular, Everyone here will shit on it.

>people think companies don't want this
what

it's all part of the hype.

they know people who get early copies will want to show it off, and they know that the consumers will be barking at the gates to see the content.

if they just let it happen, people see the content and the hype dies before they could have purchased the game; the mystery is gone, and even if the game looks good the lack of mystery will lower the chances of some people buying the game

however, if they don't let it just, happen, and instead do a half-assed job of shutting down streams and the like as they appear, it keeps the game in the public eye as it is an interesting spectacle (e.g. this thread). though they may lose some people's interest in the streams, they gain the interest of other people who don't watch the streams much but still hear about the publisher shutting the streams down
