There isn't really anything that Undertale does that other games don't do better. The often lauded friendship system? Fallout does a much better job of giving the option of being either good or evil. Undertale merely gives you a hamfisted ending either way. The dodging mechanic? You may as well play a real bullet hell shooter, honestly. The story? Complete crap.
Calling the game tumblr bait is a simple way of dismissing the game, but it is a fair one. It has a fanbase due to being viraled to hell and back by journalists who kickstarted the project.

Well, if we're going to play that game, there are much better indie titles out there. Shovel Knight and Freedom Planet in particular are just as good as any big budget game, and are acknowledged as such.

People still talk about those games: You just don't notice them because you're too busy making sure there are five or six threads talking about how great Undertale is while somehow not actually talking about the game.
There was considerably more actual discussion about the Plague Knight DLC than there has EVER been towards Undertale. We talked about changes made to the level design, the overall plot, the new characters, and how it was all a free download.
You don't get that sort of discussion with Undertale, and you never will.

Literally the first two+ weeks of the game's realease were people all banding together to help each other to find as many secrets and subtle changes they could, not only in gameplay but in the plot and dialogue.

Well I do understand people's reasoning behind pirating, and personally don't mind it, but I do try to support fellow gamedevs whenever possible. It's awesome Undertale has done so well, really enjoying the game so far and I am happy I chose to buy it too :)

It's a mild bullet-hell type game that revolved around the story. It's good the first two or three playthroughs, beyond that it doesn't do much unless it's really your thing.
It's also a pretty short game, takes around 3-4 hours at the most to beat the first run
