The thing with a cardgame like this is you dont need to catch up. They seldomly nerf things. And a deck is 30 cards, some basic cards included ussually.
So in the end you need to get 20 cards tops to be competitive. And even some of those you might get from random packs like tavern brawl and daily quests. So if you want to be competitive on the ladder, you need to only craft one deck.
If you want to be competitive in tournaments then 3 i think. And honestly, if you are thinking about playing a game like this competitively, dropping 30 dollars or whatever on the expansion wings nets you a shitton of cards, and is basicly nothing.

Cards that are still in beta have icons next to them to let you know that they arent fully tested but are available if you want to start testing with them rather than wait for all the bugs to be fixed. TGT seemed little more than a balance patch. A lot of the cards added just evened out a few niches or filled up certain types, to give certain decks more to stand on. There wasn't really anything that stood out as interesting or exciting. This adventure seems to be all about shaking things up, so I'm all for it.
