You don't want to bring in hawaii overclocking on the 300 models - they havem osnter coolers that can - and will - take the chip to 1200mhz core which makes them quite a bit faster than nearly every 970 you can buy.

AHAHAH oh wow - you think mhz is the same across different architectures? Oh man /v/ you are cute when you act stupid.

Protip: maxwell doesn't scale linearly with clockspeed whereas GCN is pretty close to linear. On a pure clock-for-clock perspective kepler and hawaii are better overclockers than maxwell.

>>
>>315625863
You misunderstood what you were told about amd cards. They overclocked so well because they took the 290's and rebranded them as 3xx

It's not that they have higher O.C. potential as a 3xx card, it's that they realized the maximum out of the box.

Either way I personally think the 390>970, I was just pointing out 1200mhz core clock is not impressive in the least.

>>315626259

No, you don't understand. Core clockspeed is a useless metric comparing cards that aren't from the same architecture. 1200mhz on a maxwell card is meaningless, 1200mhz on hawaii or something like a 780ti is an enormous performance boost.

You really need to understand that clockspeed in relation to overclocking doesn't matter - its the performance gain you get.
>>
>>315626398

Side note: see memory clockson maxwell compared to hawaii.

A good 970 could have 8ghz memory but it will still have less bandwidth (by a huge margin) than a 390x running its memory at stock. Speed isn't everyhting in isolation.
>>
>>315621371
>Shitty AAA games are being exclusively developed for GTX 970/980

>>
>>315626647
That large bandwidth is currently detrimental and won't be a benefit until the 390x is deprecated

why is that an advantage?

>>315627006

The high bandwidth is a factor in why GCN 1.1/1.2 generally scale very well with resolution. An overclocked 390x can drive a 4k screen in the 40-50fps range for msot games at high settings (ultra tends to be a step too far) which is perfect for a freesync screen. Dropping a few settings to gain back fps is a sensible move.

Oh I forgot this is /v/ where SSAA must be turned on no matter what and every slider needs to be as far to the right as possible.

Only shitgames from shit developers moneyhatted by Nvidia like Konami, Ubisoft and WB.

Ironically even those games still run like shit with both, AMD and Nvidia, just slightly less shit with Nvidia.

Assassin's Creed, Watch Dogs, Batman, Project Cars, they all run like shit or are unplayable.

On the other hand Alien, Just Cause, Bethesda games and Dice games like Battlefront that are all supported by AMD run fucking perfectly... with both GPUs.

If you buy Nvidia, you literally help killing our hobby.

I fucking wish something was out that could actually make use of my XFIRE r290's

I got a job and put away cash for a new rig.

2 years ago, and now I have fucking $5000+ to dump down on a beast of a fucking PC, but nothing is worth putting the cash down, I even brought a 4k and was considering just getting a water cooled gtx 980, but running that card is about the same as what I have now, probably a little betting since I run 4k.

But fuck it, I have to keep waiting, I brought a decent rig 2-3 years ago and I'll just hang on to it for 5 more years, since nothing else is decent.

Even the damn new fucking CPU'S are 4ghz, I have an i7 3.6ghz (4.3ghz turbo) so I can't even update this.

I even brought into the PCIE SSD, because fuck, I want to spend some money, but I'm pissed off cause there's nothing to spend my fucking money on.

Companies get your fucking shit together, if there was a $2000 GFX card out with 10 times the power of a GTX 980 i'd be fucking the first to get it.

Figured I'd try a flagship GPU and team green for once.

Fell fish-line hook and sinker for the whole 980 full DX12 support fiasco before AMD's announcement that they will be supporting tier 3 whilst maxwell is stuck at tier 2 resource binding.

Almost double the price of a single 290X at the time with single digit fps difference on average. I regret not purchasing an r9 290X at the time such good price/performance ratio could've saved a good chunk of money for the next node shrink.

But price aside haven't had any severe issues to date with my 980 managed to push it up to 1400/1500 on air without even dabbling with voltage.

Their geforce experience client is alright for getting the latest drivers quickly the lazy way and accessing shadowplay, rest is just bloat, the application doesn't load up quickly, and Nvidia surround sucks absolute ass.

Upgrading to high end from an old run down turd was fun and all but sticking to mid range next time, more cost effective. Hopefully Nvidia doesn't pull another Kepler on Maxwell the moment pascal releases.
