Pokemon is too dull for me as it is. I read that the kids in Japan who like this like it because old people aren't playing it too like Pokemon. As someone who loved Gen 3 and thinks its the best aside from 2 and 5, I barely got to gym 3 in Omega Ruby before I got bored and haven't played since. I thought it was a fine remake despite the reported small changes but I just have lost that spark in me that made Pokemon fun. Gen 5 was a treat because of how simple it was. For how many people got in to X and Y apparently, I just felt like it was the most bland yet
The only monster collector I'd buy in a heart beat is if Square stopped being shit and brought us the Dragon Quest Monsters GB remakes on 3DS, but that will never happen because we live in the worst timeline so, yeah

WiiU is a failure, Nintendo makes NX as some console/mobile compromise
Assume it's also a failure (this will take 4+ years).
With the dying console market and portable market in Japan, and the failures of both WiiU and NX creating huge losses (that can't be compensated with 3DS profits), Nintendo decides to fold their hardware and become purely a third party software developer.
What this means is Nintendo IPs on non Nintendo consoles. Imagine. Mario and Zelda on PS4, Metroid on XBox, etc... Instead of buying shitty Nintendo hardware for just a couple first party titles, the Nintendo audience will flock to other consoles and give them a healthy boost. 3rd party developers as well will move on to other pastures (mostly Playstation as far as Japan is concerned).
Under the new reign of king tyrant Sony, video game audiences are unified on one of two consoles. With a new, untapped audience tuning into sony consoles, 3rd party developers will see more sales, and game development will flourish, thrusting us into a new golden age!
Of course that's never gonna happen. The real Nintendo are stubborn motherfuckers. They'd sooner go down and take the entire ship and industry with them then turn to pure software development. Heck, they'd probably go pure mobile before considering making games for other consoles. See that's the thing. I'm not sure how much people know it but video games are doing like shit right now, especially in Japan. Over there, 9 of the top 10 sellers are likely to be 3DS games or mainline franchises like Mario and Pokemon.
I don't have anything against their games, but allowing the PS4 to do badly there would be far more harmful to the industry as a whole than having Nintendo's hardware fail. Because, like you said, Nintendo are their own little buble. They rely mostly on first party titles. Nintendo have alienated most 3rd party publishers repeatedly; the couple that get a shit ton of sales, like Monster Hunter or Yokai Watch, do great, but other medium to small sized developers often perform poorly. Xenoblade X did like trash there, let's not even talk about Platinum's sales, and I expect SMTxFE to perform like crap as well. No one's gonna buy a Nintendo platform for those games, they buy it for Nintendo mainline releases and everything else is a bonus.
So what if Nintendo mainline releases were confined to PS4? People would buy a lot more of those, and consequentially other games would sell better and flourish too. And that's why I'm pushing the narrative of Nintendo's hardware having to die, because their "bubble" has created a separation in consumers that is ultimately harmful to the industry as a whole. There's no reason Nintendo IPs couldn't be on other consoles (when they're not completely relying on a trashy gimmick for the most part).
Of course, Nintendo are a business. They'll do what's profitable to them and ignore the bigger picture till the bitter end; why else would they be trying to move on to mobile right now? And if their IPs move to mobile, it'll be even more harmful for everyone else, and provide more incentives to abandon games development for mobile game development.
