Is Blizzard the biggest cautionary tale in the gaming industry? How falling victim to your own hubris can completely destroy you. That sacrificing charm and talent for money isn't worth it in the long-term.

Hopefully others won't follow in their footsteps.
>>
You make it sound like they're suffering now, but they're loaded with cash and have a legion of fanboys.

What legion of fanboys? Blizzard has burnt every bridge they had with their fans. Blizzard may not be suffering financially, but they will because nobody trusts them anymore. Everybody knows they have nothing left to offer, nobody likes their tricks.

In comparison to publishers like Valve, who don't treat their customers like shit, manage to make millions of dollars off cosmetics alone because people are willing to support them, and aren't being strong-armed into spending money like Blizzard does with their games.

Games like Dota 2 have revolutionized the F2P market, games like Hearthstone only continue to exploit it for a cheap buck.

How long are they going to stay wealthy when they've alienated everybody who gave a shit about them?

Also if Blizzcon is sold out then Jetfuel can melt steel beams because there's no fucking way people still buy into their bullshit after WoD.
>>
>>315598693
So where are they then? You keep saying they are coming back but they haven't. Valve wouldn't dare attempt to do paid mods again, we kicked their shit in last time because unlike Blizzdrone, Valvedrones aren't spineless little faggots that let Gabe walk all over them.
>>
Saying blizz is ever going to stop being wealthy is pure delusion.

EA with all their antics STILL rakes in nonstop cash.
>>
>>315598781
Blizzard isn't just WoW anymore kid, Hearthstone alone is making an unreasonable amount of money. Also, they're part of a company that just spent six billion dollars on Candy Crush and collectively they own a big chunk of gaming's most profitable franchises, one of which is also going to make an unreasonable amount of money this very night.

They are going to stay wealthy forever, and no amount of basement dwellers feeling 'betrayed' is gonna change that.
>>
>>315598892
EA has a braindead following of dudebros who buy the new Madden every year. Blizzard doesn't have that.
>>
>>315598983
People are leaving Hearthstone in droves because they are sick of the RNG and unreasonable money that needs to be spent in order to catch up to competitive play.

Also good fucking luck making back that six billion dollars, the mobile bubble is going to burst and they are going to be stuck with useless dead weight.

Normies play Hearthstone too. Just because Reddit has a hissy-fit and says WE'VE HAD ENOUGH and swears off the game doesn't mean people are leaving in droves.

Armchair game designers are smarter than the majority of people who actually design games. Anybody with a brain can see Fallout 4 is garbage but the people who worked on it probably think it's ingenious.

All focus will shift towards the movie as a distraction

I think it comes out middle of next year. Their marketing team has probably predicted low income from their games around that date, so they will push out the movie by then to keep the income level steady.
>>
>>315599992

I genuinely don't believe that. Anyone with half a brain can see that Blizzard's, Bethesda's, etc. game development philosophy ends where the bottom line begins. Lowest amount of investment: highest pay-off, this is what makes their company attractive to investors and ultimately the goal of their CEO's.

Most of the developers are not 20 years old, they've developed games in the past and they've experienced the regression of the industry, first hand.
>>
Blizzard are fucking nuts putting September 2016 as the predicted release date of legion, even if that's when they believe it will be ready there's no way telling people that is a good idea

If that's the real release date the game wont make it to Q2 2016

There isn't much hype for any Blizzard's games, beyond Overwatch, but that's only because it hasn't been released yet.

The fact that Blizzards most talked about game is a casual mobile ccg is really telling about Blizzards future. Expect Warcraft 4 to be mobile compatible.
>>
>>315599135
Price is not the point. The point is that when companies make games only to make money they shift their focus towards the lowest common denominator to maximize their profits. It's not about making a good game anymore, but to about making game with lowest possible effort and sell it to as many dumb people as possible. Nobody actually cares about price of games itself.

Warlords had:

-Garrisons with a ton of different buildings which provided different attributes, follower missions, naval missions, invasions and a weekly campaign
-Lots of rare mobs and treasures spread across the zones
-Perks for classes
-2 large raids with multiple difficulty levels
-4 world bosses
-New brawler's guild bosses
-New archaeology races
-Character model improvements
-Tons of new mounts, toys and pets
-Ashran outdoor pvp zone
-A variety of interesting zones to level in and stories to progress
-The heirloom tab
-The legendary ring questline
-8 dungeons with challenge modes available
-Timewalking and other bonus events
-Pepe

Correct. There's technically still a scene for CS 1.6 too. Unlike 1.6 though, who successfully transitioned its fans over to GO, SC2 alienated all of its fans by never updating the game or supporting the scene. I admit, Tastosis are still just as fun to watch now as they were four years ago but the scene is completely dead. I'd give you numbers but I'm too lazy and the best proof by far, anyway, is that not even Day9 still streams SC2.

If you simply want us to acknowledge that we are still working on them, then here you go: We are still working on them.

and later

>Agree that this is almost impossible to measure. However, we do have data that can help us determine player behavior and what players are looking for during regular gameplay. For example, we were able to look at all active Hearthstone players and then look at how many players actually used all 9 deck slots compared to how many players were actually only using 8, 7, 6, etc, or even just 1 deck slot. This data was able to lend a strong argument that most active Hearthstone players were not yet using all of their deck slots. Certainly, as you implied above, this is not conclusive, but it does help us to determine what may be more pressing to work on as far as development bandwidth goes.
Also, to be clear, when I say "the majority of Hearthstone players", I mean the majority of Hearthstone players. I do not mean the "majority of Hearthstone Reddit".
EDIT: Too many replies to this one post, so I will just make an edit here to try to clarify. I used an example above to try to explain that there are many other factors to consider beyond what is asked for on Reddit. It is not the sole reason for why deck slots is not the #1 most important thing. However, as has been noted several times, deck slots is important and is something that we are working on.

This is why Hearthstone is going to die.

I am still entertained in the end. So what do I lose? So I'm having fun with a 8.5/10 gane instead of a 10/10 game. Is that really what matters?

Look, I'll try to explain.
Blizz can either produce the ABSOLUTE BEST addon in history, put every resource into it and it is AMAZING, simply perfect. All the players are happy. But in the end, Blizzard is putting too much money into the game, even more than they MAKE money and they slowly but steadily decline and in a few years Blizz goes poof and that's it.

That means that some of my favourite universes will cease to continue, which sucks.

Blizzard is literally the Nintendo of PC gaming. They are not doing well by their old standards but they still have their dedicated man-children audience.

Biggest profits yet. Only proves that good business practices don't pay.

Why is someone trying to convince us blizzard is dead? Hearthstone is probably the single biggest game most profitable game since minecraft, overwatch mite b gud, Heroes is kind of just staying there, and starcraft and WoW are winding down, but blizzard is still far in the black

That'd be great if it were 8.5 out of 10, yes. It's not remotely close to that, though. You'll want to make the argument that the game isn't targeted at hardcore players but it clearly, clearly is. They even hired a balance manager from Magic to make sure the game was competitively balanced. 6 months for a clumsy Warsong nerf. Secrets paladin is a thing and would have been extremely clearly OP during QA.
>>315607462
Not as far as I know. Only streams 4 days and Monday is Adventure games with Bill, Sean, and Sean. Wednesday is Hearthstone, Friday is whatever day. He could stream it on Tuesday or Thursday though. I could be wrong there.

Hearthstone attracted a lot of competitive players. With the confidence lost that Blizzard does not have the ability to balance a game properly, that entire audience is toast and it's with them that the casual audience will leave as well. This was seen in WoW.

that fact that you honestly think Hearthstone's majority demographic is competitive players is both insane and laughable

I can guarantee you that 85% of the revenue comes from casuals and mobile-only players.

Oh I think you're wrong. That number is low. I'd put it at maybe 95-99%.

You have to have the hardcore audience for the casuals to look up to though. There wouldn't be college basketball without an NBA for the players to go through to. There wouldn't be Universities without the companies for graduates to get hired by. And there won't be casuals without the dream of ranking among the hardcore.

What the fuck? I've literally seen people glued to their phones on the bus playing it. It's playable heroin and all the RNG elements make it so that even the dumbest faggot can pull off the illusion of skill sometimes. The server costs are nonexistant and people pay out the ass for packs. Blizzard's halfassed phone game is 4th in views on twitch

i know blizzard gets shit on a lot and most of the time its understandable because they fuck up a lot
they ruined the wow lore with those retarded stories and destroyed the social aspect of the game. they fucked up d3 hard. hearthstone is kinda greedy and like all new blizzard games has balancing problems.
but they still care about their games. instead of dropping d3 altogether they invested lots of money to make ros which made the game really good, hearthstone is still quite engaging and even though you might think its casual shit its acutally quite hard to master
they are nowhere near its former glory but the market has changed, i dont think they would survive if they didnt
>>
>>315608078
is Hearthstone really that big ? Is overwatch the catalyst for that huge jump?
>>
>>315607910

>>
>>315608394
>instead of dropping d3 altogether they invested lots of money to make ros which made the game really good
D3 was completely unfinished when they put it out. It's insulting that we had to pay an addition $40 to play the finished game. Arena PvP still isn't in the game btw, three years later.

>hearthstone is still quite engaging and even though you might think its casual shit its acutally quite hard to master
Secret Paladin can get anyone to rank 5, guaranteed. What you said might have been true if they hadn't FUBAR'd the highest skillcap deck in the game.

>they are nowhere near its former glory but the market has changed, i dont think they would survive if they didnt
They would be fine if they LITERALLY just remade MoP with a different theme, balanced Hearthstone, patched SC2, and put QA into D3 before releasing it. Players wouldn't be nearly this upset. They didn't adapt, they got lazy and they're hemorrhaging fans.

its incredible punishing for little mistakes
obviously it depends on the deck and laddering and the meta reward fast decks that most of the time just play on curve
after rank 5 it gets quite a grind, the only way you can reach legend is playing a lot or having a really good winrate
having a really good winrate is either luck, good deck that counters the meta or being really good and minimizing mistakes
luck is variance, you cant count on that
good deck building and understanding the meta is quite hard
minimizing mistakes includes knowing the meta and your opponents deck, the chances for the cards in his hand, playing around those cards, playing with the next 2-4 rounds in mind depending on the deck and knowing when to trade/go face/play defensive
there is a reason kolento and others are regularly top 100 legend

Literally everything except sustained World of Warcraft revenue from WoD is successful for them. /v/ just likes to use retarded metrics for success such as Twitch viewer counter on US off hours.

>Blizzard’s net revenues increased for the three months ended June 30, 2015, as compared to 2014, primarily due to higher revenues from Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft and the release of its latest adventure, Blackrock Mountain , revenues from Heroes of the Storm, which was released on June 2, 2015, and the release of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls in China, a free-to-play version of the game with premium content and microtransactions available for purchase. In addition to already having been released on PC, iPad, and Android tablets in the prior year, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft was released on iPhone and Android smartphones in April 2015, which contributed to the current period revenue increase. The increases were partially offset by declines in revenue from the World of Warcraft franchise.

From: Dark Origin - Broodwar secret mission.

Zeratul: I've... I've never seen a game like this before...

Adjutant: Test subject 10.11, classified: RTS/Harrassment Hybrid, in perfect beta phase.
Pre-order system active and fully operational.

Zeratul: No...

Dark voice: Magnificent isnt it?

Zeratul: What? Who are you?

Dark voice: I've had many names throughout the millennia, young prodigal. You would know me best as "Dayvie"

Zeratul: Blizzard's consort! Is this part of their twisted schemes?

Dayvie: No. Blizzard could not have engineered this grand experiment.
Although their rebirth into the Activision-Blizzard has sped up my progress,
I can assure you that this endeavor is quite beyond their narrow understanding.

Zeratul: If you are not their pawn, then what are you?

Dayvie: I am a servant of a far greater power.
A power that has killed many workers through countless ages. And is reflected in the game within that cell.

Zeratul: Have you any conception of what you've created here?
Do you have any idea what this... this HarrassCraft is capable of?

Dayvie: Of course I do. This game is the completion of a cycle.
Its role in the cosmic order was preordained when the Broodwar was young.
Behold the culmination of your history.

Zeratul: All I behold is an abomination.

Dayvie: Your extreme feedback, young noob, is typical.
As is your inablility to comprehend the greater scheme of things.
You can post as much as you want. It will do you no good.
For I have seeded the Harrassment in my dev team. They will ignore your feedback untill the game awakens...
And when it does... your wallet will be changed... forever.

From: The Trial of Tassadar - SC1 protoss campaign mission 8.

Community: Executor, we have found the LOTV forums. We will attempt to post feedback now.
>>
>>315609257
Dayvie: I expected you to attempt to rescue your game. You will learn that the will of the Devs is absolute. Make peace with Broodwar.

Zeratul: Stay thy hand, Dayvie. The stewards of Broodwar shall not fall while the Dark Templar live. Call off your moderators and stand aside, and you may yet live to see another tournament.

Dayvie: "I will not be addressed so by one who is not a pro player.
You and your vile brethren shall l2p with these changes or be banned for negativity."

Zeratul: "Are you truly so blinded by your pride, that you can't see the fall ahead of you?
Your dev team believes that they are winning this war, but all they've succeeded in doing is helping the Activision to win."

Dayvie: "What could you possibly know about game design, blasphemer?"

Zeratul: "You speak of knowledge, Dayvie? You speak of experience?
I have witnessed siege tank lines that could hold for eternity.
I have beheld the Zerg swarm flooding the galaxy and strong Protoss gateway units that didn't need blink or t1 caster units to be effective...
Unto my experience, Dayvie, all that you've built here on SC2 is but a fleeting dream.
A dream in which I have nipples and from which your precious Devs shall awaken, finding themselves drowned in rage posts."

This shit amazes me so much. For some reason we're in the TF2 clone era. Okay okay, maybe not TF2 since arena shooters aren't new nor did TF2 invent it. For some mysterious reason there are half a dozen arena shooters that were announced within the year. Based off that, Overwatch won't be doing as well as Blizzard expects it to be. Plus for some reason the market wants 'competitive' games, this isn't it in my opinion.

I fucking legit miss Pandaria. After they fixed the dailies gating it really wasn't so bad. Definitely needed more dungeons and shit, though.

But the zones, the music, the atmosphere. It was all so great and had limitless potential, only to be shoehorned into "muh horde vs alliance" shit all over again with the Krasarang shit and SoO.

Warcraft needed a break. A decent filler expansion before whipping out the Legion. It got one...then it got a shitty follow up filler, and now it's too damn late to salvage it even a little it.
