Axiom Verge is a nice PC version of Super Metroid. I like how different the powerups are used,
Last i played was probably a run of Metroid 2 earlier in the year. Being portable helps in keeping things easy to jump in to. I love the world of SR388: very alien and bizarre. Fusion's "simulation" is very bland in comparison, but many of the environments in Fusion were kind of lacking.

I just beat Super Metroid for the first time a few days ago and holy shit it deserves all the praise it gets. Like damn that was good. Shame it costs so much, I'll probably never own it.

Last game I played was Super, did some casual speedrunning, got 100% in 1:20 in game time.
Favorite suit is probably just the standard Varia Suit. It's always a nice design to look at.
Shittiest weapon goes to the Seeker Missiles because they're almost never useful in combat.
Best Space Pirates are Prime 2 pirates, and by extension, tubes pirates.
I might do a replay of the Primes soon, it's been a while.

Yeah, fool around with the settings. You can increase the resolution, set it to 16:9, etc.

If you're on a recent build of Dolphin, you should uncheck "Disable external frame buffer" to get rid of that black bar at the bottom. Make sure you set it to "virtual", though.

I should mention, that option is under Graphics > Hacks. Most of the settings you should play with are in Graphics > Enhancements- specifically, you should probably increase the internal resolution to around 3x native, and set the anisotropic filtering to something higher than 1x. Definitely enable "Scaled EFB copy".

Nigga, turn up that internal resolution. And slap some anti aliasing on while you're at it. Also, turn on that 16:9 ratio.
So apparently a new version of this build added experimental support for tessellation, but it requires creating different maps of the textures and such. Exciting times.

Ah, yeah, that's a bug. If you still really want to get rid of the black bar, you can disable dual core in the main options, but that will drastically impact your performance. You might also want to enable the widescreen hack under Graphics > Enhancements, since currently the screen is just being stretched out rather than extended.

what's the best way to play metroid prime these days? would dolphin with a 360 controller be good for the first two, or should I take a look at that wii "collection" and see what I can manage for the controls?
I have an actual wiimote+ or whatever that works fine for zelda (I'm playing the wii version of tp because widescreen and the left-right flip is what I'm used to, turning off the pointer kills most of the annoying motion control shit), but I'm not big on the point-at-screen-to-aim thing they went for

If you're emulating either way, then you should probably try the GCN versions, since they perform better in Dolphin. If you have an actual Wii, though, then the Trilogy is probably the most seamless and immersive experience, just because it doesn't suffer from any performance hiccups.
