What are /v/'s thoughts on the expansion?
HOL UP
WE WUZ KINGZ' N SHEEIT?
>>315566102
Yeah but that nigga in charge would take all the watermelon for himself
>>315565952
How did we go from this...
>Prostagma? Petimos!
To.........
>Muhffuga bix nood finna got eem
???
>>315567412
>The conquer the entire world to control it's supply of chickens and watermelons.
The game won't start properly for anyone. Game updated regardless of whether you bought the DLC or not.
I haven't even played it yet, and I already hate it for fucking up my game so I can't play it.
From what I've seen so far almost every civ in the game gets the four new technologies, including Arson.
There's a new siege unit too, I might give this one a try
>all these ELO lobbies
>no one plays mini cb
>no one plays archer hellfire
>no one plays Black Death Lake
>no one plays Warrior's Odyssey II
>no one plays tower defense
>no one plays TTF racing
why even live
>>315567480
there arent greeks in aoe2
>>315568232
Oh really, I thought the version Ipiratedwas fucked. Here I was going to buy the $50 steam AoE/AoM/RoN pack too. Bullet dodged.
Oh, so that's what it does. If you 'attack' a wall it places units on the other side of it.
>>315568232Works on my machine
>>315568312
>villagers
i wonder if siege towers will now have good synergy with villagers that have sappers
>50 year old game
>African Kingdoms
can't get it into the trash fast enough
>>315569640
Vills don't like base defenses a ton though, even Spanish ones are more squishy than infantry against arrows
Infantry now have the Castle Age Arson tech, which gives them more damage vs buildings. I'm imagining it stacks with the Goths' existing bonus.
>>315570362
they're still trash units though
>Infantry now have the Castle Age Arson tech, which gives them more damage vs buildings.
how much does it add? i know sappers is +15
Disposable niggers? High attack but much less defense
>>315570641
Doesn't tell me in-game.
>>315568232
nvm, fixed it :)
>a new expansion for a 16 year old game
has this happened before? a dlc for the older game after a sequel has been out?
i'm not complaining, but who's making these?
>>315571690
they did that with postal 2
Is the HD release good for a new person or is it butchered?
>>315571967
it's the same game with a better resolution and more stable on new computers.
get it. you absolutely should play AoE2 at some point in your life.
>>315571690
Some of the guys who made The Forgotten mod for the original game got in touch with Microsoft and asked if they could make it into an official expansion. The post-mortem is an interesting read.
>>315571967
Sometimes the patches for AoE2 HD fuck with some things and sometimes they are fixed. The HD game should be fine after this apparent issue with the new expansion is sorted out, but the original game + userpatch or The Forgotten and GameRanger to handle the online is perfectly fine too. The updated game just has balance changes and continued support.
>>315571967
It's great.
Sadly the Age of Mythology one isn't as good - still okay, but it doesn't add as many tweaks and shit that AoE2 did. Like the Ludakriz map size.
>>315572432
The only real difference to me was the added special effects and a camera that can actually zoom out a fair distance away in regular play, alongside working online
Original game still works fine on modern machines
>>315572432
I'm really hoping that the AoM Tale of the Dragon DLC changes that. AoM Is my fave AoE game, so I'm gonna be crushed if the DLC is shit-tier.
The Portuguese have some pretty cool shit, liek pic related organ gun and a unique Imperial age building the Feitoria that gives loads of recources for free over time.
>>315573528
>Requires 20 population
Does it take up 20 population slots, or do you just need a minimum amount of pop before you can utilize it?
>>315570932
doesn't make any sense. there's no food in ethiopia
>>315565952
AoE2 expansion?! The fuck? Did I cross into another dimension or something?
WE WUZ KINGZ N QUEENZ
>Camels are no longer classified as ships.
Oh, neat.
>>315575646
Nope, it's real. There was another some time ago.
I'm wondering if discussion of this gets past /vr/'s 1999 or earlier rule. Plenty of people talk about expansions and mods and shit from base games released then.
>>315573181
AoM had a day night cycle right? why not take the screenshot at the same time
WE WUZ KINGS
EVEN THO WE LIVED IN MUD HUTS, THE DEVS GAVE US REAL CITIES
>>315577227
nvm i didnt realize this was a cinematic from the last scenario
>>315575980
Rules as written, it is cleared for posting on /vr/, covered under expansions, romhacks, mods, etc. made for games prior to 2000. Or else, a very large portion of the DOOM thread couldn't exist, nor could most of the romhacking threads, or even Counter-Strike threads.
>>315577527
It's the Atlantean tutorial.
>>315577717
Fair enough, too.
>>315577848
it has those tiles from the last scenario tho
>>315577989
Yeah, but that doesn't change that it's the tutorial cinematic.

Really sucks you arent able to build roads so that units travelling on them can have mov. speed increased.
>>315570932
>50 food 35 gold
>cheap
don't give me that shit, that's not cheap you fuckwits, it's an infantry unit that has whooping 16 attack in castle age, label it right for god's sake
>""""""Improved"""""" AI
>Still stops doing anything after it uses up most of its resources around the first town center
Thank goodness for that Resonance mod
why are they fucking up this perfectly good game with these shitty fucking expansions...

RACISTS BTFO
>>315568642
I do play Tower defense
But nobody joins my RPGs, Zombie Awakening or Europe/World DiplomacyI must confess I roleplay a little bit in every diplomacy game; for I main Saracens and I ALWAYS go to middle east, I try to ally all Middle eastern civs (except the Byzantines), and I do a tad little Roleplay dialog, like telling a Frankish, British or Teutonic player to leave my landsOddly enough, those games end being really fun, without getting out of hand with the roleplay, everyone keeps it's on check; but it's fun when everyone knows how to act their paper
ADVANCED METALLURGY
>>315575158
It consumes 20 population slot, like having 20 vills working
The income should be changed tho, for you get 1 of each resource every 1 second
It should be like this:
>2 food every 1 second
>1,5 wood every 1 second
>0,5 gold every 1 second (or 1 gold every 2 seconds)
>0,25 stone every 1 second (or 1 stone every 4 seconds)
The Numidians were extremely useful during small wars, and their presence certainly contributed greatly to the effectiveness of Hannibal's reconnaissance and intelligence. Hannibal's invasion of Rome during the Second Punic War is best known for his use of slow-moving war elephants, but he also employed Numidian cavalry where faster movement was needed, such as luring the Romans into a trap at the Battle of Trebia[4] and for fighting on his right flank.

Same here, campaign works but standard + multiplayer crashes.

>Africa

What? Did they have mud castles or something?

Yeah, but those are noob games
What did you expect from a noob?
What is the point of playing this game?
>>315585069
To be played.
>>315584732
This.
I want to see their Imperial Age-tier mud castle
>>315565952
Isn't this game like 15 yrs old? I remember playing AoE3 in like 5th grade
>>315585069

>>315565952
anyone knows anything about the Portuguese unit tree?
>>315585069
uuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
So what are the African kingdoms Wonder structures?
>>315585069
What is the point?
May pick up AOE2, never tried it
>>315585069
It's fun
>>315585564
Yeah, i'm interested in this too.
is there really a point to this game? the gameplay is archaic. why do people still like this? just build, pump out units, and win.

>>315585564

>>315585564
>>315586252
>Gunpower and Naval civ
>Ship HP +10%
>Units cost -15% less gold
>Has exclusive Imperial Age building that generates one of each resource per second, but consumes 20 population slots
>Team bonus is free cartography even at Dark Age
Their siege, calvary, and calvary archer lines do not go up all the way, and miss fast fire ships, as well as lacking Squires and Hoardings. They still have bombard cannons and the new siege tower.
They may take all Monastery (save Illumination), University, and Blacksmith techs. Economically they only miss Gold Shaft Mining.
Unique units are the organ gun and the caravel (ship), both of which are suited against masses of units. Unique techs include additional ship armor and making gunpowder units benefit from Ballistics.
Anything else?
>>315586646
You clearly don't like RTS in general

They were the first European country to conduct a lot of business in Sub Saharan Africa. They contacted the Kongo Kingdom in Central Africa in 1483 and had good relations for about 200 years before war broke out over slaving customs. Slaving was legal under Kongo law but the Portuguese were doing it too often and in too great numbers.
>>315587683
Thanks, will check those videos out
>>315587157
editor bro, can you show us their castles?
both imperial and castle age if possible
>>315587636
They are one of the remaining African colonial powers not represented in AoE2 I'd assume. Not enough African empires to round out expansion.
>>315587636
Portugal were the 1st Europeans to find, explore, and pillage the nuffins
>>315587973
Well yeah doesn't mean they can't invade it
>>315588324
Sure, give me a sec
>>315588028
>i know the Portuguese one exists, wonder if the others do too.
Yes, they do.
The Ethiopian Wonder seems to be one of the churches of Lalibela, a medieval complex in northern Ethiopia. You can read about it and see some cool pictures here
http://www.enjoyourholiday.com/2011/09/28/lalibela-a-city-carved-from-legend/
The Malian Wonder is a Sahelian-style castle, specifically (maybe) the Great Mosque of Djenné. It was originally built in the 13th century but the Wonder is based on its current incarnation built in the 1900s, which I suppose is fair enough since we have no idea what the original looked like.
The Berber Wonder is the Hassan tower. It was intended to be a single minaret of the largest Mosque in the world, but when the Sultan died in 1199, construction was halted.
>>315587157
Wonders have some sort of real life parallels right?
What are those structures supposed to be?
>>315588028
That obelisk is present in game as an editor object, but it isn't as a wonder
>>315565952
>Huns:
>Cavalry Archers cost -10% Castle Age/-20%
Imperial Age (instead of -25%/-30%).
>Overall:
>Cavalry Archer cost reduced to 40w/60g.
glad i play huns and use cav archer
>>315588324
>>315588439
Alright so
The Berbers share a building set that vanilla civs use.
The Ethiopians and Malians share a new building set.
The Portuguese share the same building set the Italians use in Forgotten Empires.
Any more requests, including tech trees?

And is Ethiopia still Christian or has it be "islamified"?
>>315575353
Ethiopia used to be very fertile and was even a major power at one point.
>>315588968
lame desu
what is the portuguese wonder
>>315589206
Ethiopian christianity is still around. Also they make delicious food.
>>315589206
About half of Ethiopia is Ethiopian Orthodox Christian. About a third is Sunni
>>315589206
It's still majority Christian though the Afar and Somali contingents of their population are overwhelmingly Muslim.
>Ethiopians ingame do not have access to crop rotation.

How is Ethiopia nowadays? I'd love to visit someday
>>315589998
It's fine as long as you stay away from the borders, Ogaden, and the Afar region.

how are these "cheap" when they're almost twice as expensive as the champion line in gold and about as effective?
if they wanted to make disposable troops they should've made em food or food/wood
