I'm not really sure. I play Chie and May. So I'm used to rushdown and set play characters. Right now I'm messing with Tsubaki. I like that she has a command grab and some decent mixup options. I also have messed around with Bullet some. Really though, a good chunk of the cast interests me and I'll likely keep jumping around for a little bit.

My only experience so far with this game is Makoto and Tsubaki. Tsubaki is way easier to combo with and has a lot of combo variety. I didn't like Tsubaki that much at first but i started learning all the interesting things you can do with your combos. Plus that new move in CF looks hype. She has even more fun mixups now.

I just think it's really disappointing how much he hijacked parts of the plot that really should have been used to give grossly underutilized original cast members screentime, especially since they cut individual story modes.
It's a fucking travesty that Lord Tenjo's son finally enters the story proper and Bang ISN'T the one who interacts most with him. His entire segment in the CS true ending was spent hyping that plot point up.

First me with starting off, I'm playing as rachel while taking a long break from my smooth criminal hazama/carl/bullet and man she is a whole different beast altogether. So much to put up with for so little reward whereas the other people can just shit out damage and thunder whenever they like. It's hard but it's fun though. Just a couple of days ago I finally figured out how to do her double instant overhead and man I can imagine peoples faces when I fuck around with them with this whole 50/50 bullshit she has. If they aren't going to do individual story modes, then they need to be able to compensate by giving each character a certain minimum of screentime. A situation in which the three totally brand new characters do what amounts to JACK SHIT in the story mode is unacceptable.

I understand where you're coming from because CP's balance was so terrible, and you spent half the time playing as crippled Ragna listening to shit about two new characters in an office, where people who should have had been around just fucked off like Tao. But! I still think that this linear storytelling method is much better for delivering story than individual character modes. It's just that CP's story sucked. They could have and should have done it much better, but Arakune was never going to get the same amount of screentime as Ragna or Noel. Everyone might be playable, but this story does have minor characters.

Not that I'm in a position to say because I'm also a beginner and shitty, but yes. I think more practice than memorization. It's less about memorizing the whole gigantic combo and more about getting the muscle memory for individual chains, and then seeing where the beginnings and endings link up.

Calamity Trigger was released in 2008, which was fairly early on during that whole big light novel boom. Prior to then, the biggest light novels were Shakugan no Shana or Suzumiya Haruhi, and while I haven't really watched much of Shana, what I saw wasn't actually all that similar to BlazBlue.
No, BlazBlue draws more heavily from visual novels and JRPGs. It has more in common with stuff like Demonbane, Nasu Kinoko's works and modern Shin Megami Tensei than it does with light novels.
