It's boring. The same thing goes for playing a goody two-shoes.
I can't tell you how many times in PnP I'd enter a tavern to start the story and everyone else is shoved into the darkest 4 corners trying to out brood one another and decided who has more family members dead in the most tragic of ways. Same goes for good characters who want to stop our quest to save the world to interfere with domestic abuse or something similar. They want to talk it out while i'd rather roll to kill the guy and move on problem solved.
The same philosophy applies to video games. Edgy, good no matter what archetype a character you make or is made portrays it can be done correctly it just rather is. People need to learn how to be more subtle about the archetypes and honestly that would make for better characters, story, setting everything overall.
That's why I generally play sarcastic characters. It's why I'm sarcastic that's important. You can hide a myriad of emotions under sarcasm. You also can with the other emotions as well.

He started out as your typical ranger but decided he want to fiat his character into a Ranger/Druid Hybrid since he had been living out in a cave alone where we found him conviently right outside the starting tavern and the DM allowed it on the condition he'd roll harder which you can guess how that was taken. he also wore the face of his father as a reminder "every time he looked in a shallow pond to introspect" direct quote. he tried begging the DM also to let the face imbue him with some of his fathers powers which was denied.
I was playing Sir Tetchury Valiance, a Paladin with a penchant for kleptomania. basically a typical paladin in every way but I would often be compulsed to steal the most mundane things. he would FLIP every time I'd steal something and how disgusting it was.
Eventually after a few sessions of this between him judging everyone for their shortcomings, begging the DM for wizard powers, and stopping to brood every time we came across water. I decided enough was enough and accused him of necromancy on the grounds of wearing his Dad's flesh. I rolled Diplomacy to convince the townspeople to mob him while the party helped. I took out a small vanity mirro I had taken from the last town and held it up to him and said "On more for old times sake." thn we started yelling his sister's name and how good his big lycan member felt. A little childish at the end but worth it

Well ex-paladin really. The rules were pretty lax in that respect seeing as how leather face became a druid/ranger. Tetchury was kicked from the from the order for obvious stealing but still acted like he was a vlaiantknight and all that. Think if Gaston was trying to be a Paladin. he was a bumbling idiot trying to portray the air and grace of an actual Paladin. I made sure I was pretty gimped when it came to holy spells but still knew some turn undead and was a pretty capable fighter.
