Forget about board splitting. There's only one way to improve

Forget about board splitting. There's only one way to improve this board for everyone: an anonymous filtering solution. Here's my proposal:

When you manually hide three posts from the same IP, that poster becomes permanently filtered for you _after an hour_, and apart from the current thread.

Thus there is no way of abusing it to point out samefags in any given thread, and no way of identifying any anonymous users, while enabling everyone to curate and improve their individual /v/ experience.

If you have multiple anons filtered, it is impossible to discern between them. You can only clear the entire filter, and only once per day.

If someone quotes a filtered user, the quote link will allow you to read the filtered person's post, with the caveat that the post number is displayed as [FILTERED] for you. In this way the readability of threads is preserved.

You could export a randomly-ordered hash to sync between multiple devices if you don't only use one IP / cookie set.

Plenty of refinements could be made, but in general, by enabling us to control what we see individually on here, we could ensure a higher subjective quality standard for everyone.

>>
I'm sure people will disagree but per thread IDs are really needed. I'm pretty sure 90% of shitposting is the same guy over and over again in every thread and that certain would help combat it without removing anonymity boardwide.

You cant delete sex related threads and then keep thinly veiled porn threads alive. You cant delete furbait threads, but keep monster girl threads alive. You cant delete shit posting threads, but keep ones spreading false information.

Either it all goes or none of it does. They cant expect the quality of this board to be above sub-par if they are selective about what trash gets to stay.

Start going by hardware/MAC IDs or a combo of them then. Good luck changing that.

Or just start banning ranges after the first blatant ban evasion.

Bare minimum that needs to be done is make mobile browsing read-only. Mobile posters can no longer post from mobile due to extreme ban evasion abuse.

4chan is not a safe space. These subhuman retards who whine about being triggered by opinions they don't like should get the fuck out to reddit, tumblr or whatever place else.

- There is NOT supposed to be a sticky. You should lurk the fuck more and fit in.
- There are NOT supposed to be multiple boards. In a time where the vast majority of games are multiplatform titles this makes absolutely NO sense and the only purpose is to "protect" bootybothered faggots from opposing opinions in regards to where the game runs best.
- There is NOT meant to be any anonymous filtering. If you don't like someone's opinion you'll have to learn how to deal with it. We're not fucking tumblr.

This.

People who whine about the quality of /v/ haven't been here between 2010 - 2013.

You and all the filter types are nothing but fucking pussies.

Board splitting is also the dumbest shit. We don't need a Nintendo or Sony board.

We just need a good army of competent mods who actually play video games and are not sjw c u cks.

There's nothing wrong with this board until people forget that /vg/ exists and we get 90 threads a day discussing the same game.

Also eceleb shit pertaining to YouTube and not video games should be removed. Basically cuc k worshipping should be removed because "lmao ____'s last video was soon funny" is not video games.
>>
>>315376035
This has always been the case on 4chan and it's the same thing on any other place on the internet, except that there shitposting is usually wrapped within passive-aggressiveness and you can't even tell the people to fuck off and die due to some stupid netiquette rules, making the debates rather tiresome and utterly boring with people trying to say "fuck yourself" in lots of words instead of simply getting it out. On 4chan you can challenge peoples views. If there's a marketer, confront him with the fact that the product is shit. If there's someone who says something you believe is stupid, tell him so - and if you want to actually contribute you add to your post why you believe it's stupid and suddenly an actual discussion starts.

/v/ just needs its rules enforced and some lines drawn

e-celebs are not vidya, for example, they should not be permitted.

Threadbans need to be brought back, if you only mildly punish the OP of a shit thread with 300+ replies, you aren't teaching anyone to follow the rules, only that 299 people can share another off-topic experience and continue to seek that kind of elation here. Threadbans would solve many of /v/'s ailments.

I also like the boards attitude and tolerance level which is why I still hang around after seven years but to say that v was "always" full of marketers is a lie. To say that it was always "full" of shitposter is a lie.

Marketers is a recent addition. Maybe 2013. Shitposters have risen to an all time high and I have no idea the cause behind that one.

The "average" v user has changed with the huge influx of newfags not only to the website but to the hobby of videogames. I fear the problems are rooted in there and there will be no saving 4chan. It will purely be marketers marketing to shitposters and all actual videogame discussion will die.

Not to mention that in the context of /v/ it makes absolutely no sense. Most games these days are multiplatform titles. What are console gamers supposed to talk about? The one or two exclusive titles they have left? You can't run a board on nothing.

I have been here before those boards were around. I've been browsing 4chan since 2005.

Stickies aren't necessary. They give people a wrong impression of what 4chan is about. They give people the false idea that they could gain vital information from a bunch of notes in a sticky and that they didn't have to lurk any more - that it was okay to be new. 4chan isn't that welcoming of a place though - especially not /v/. You're not supposed to just come in here, you're supposed to lurk the fuck more and become familiar with the board. Find out things on your own instead of being handed everything.

A board that seriously discusses video games is not interesting to normies.

If you want to improve /v/, discuss fucking vidya.
>>
>>315378017
So marketer newfag or revisionist then?

Non vidya "culture" threads are still rampant and they're the least of this boards problems.

If I made a "favorite multiplayer maps" thread right the fuck now it would get 10 replies, 3 images, and burn. This is because there's no room for such a thread when marketers need to market the latest and greatest. When brand warriors need to defend "their" side.

No, they were much worse back then. And they were a big problem. They're not a big problem now - but back then they were.

>If I made a "favorite multiplayer maps" thread right the fuck now it would get 10 replies, 3 images, and burn.
Probably because all the people playing the types of multiplayer games where one would have a favourite map are stuck on /vg/ in some shitty general.

>This is because there's no room for such a thread when marketers need to market the latest and greatest. When brand warriors need to defend "their" side.
I think the whole marketer thing is blown out of proportion - it's an issue, but it's more of an issue on "nicer" platforms like reddit, where people can't be told to fuck off and where newly announced games aren't torn to shreds. Hype works much better there. Brand warriors are more of an issue - but these are generally an issue in video gaming. They existed on the usenet already when people were discussing SNES vs GENESIS. They've existed since the very beginning of /v/ and before. And they will exist in the future. Whether it's Nintendo vs Sony or ATI vs NVIDIA, etc.

In general, I simply don't see it as that much of an issue. If a newly announced game looks like shit I post that it looks like shit. If it's a marketer posting or not doesn't matter to me. He has to defend his point of view all the same. And either he can beat me in the argument through facts and reasoning or he can't.

/v/ isn't that bad right now. It has been much worse at certain points in history. However, at ALL times people are under the impression that /v/ is the worst right now. This isn't any different on /a/ either.
>>

/v/ is a place to shitpost and argue about things you don't really care about. Wanting to "improve their individual /v/ experience" is fucking retarded since we already have /vg/ for actual video game discussion. The whole point of /v/ is a video game themed /b/.
>>
>>315365046
the only needed measure is banning posting from phones.

>I don't think it would improve /v/ but I wouldn't be completely opposed to the idea to introducing IDs just to give it a try. Better than splitting the boards and creating safe spaces for idiots or some stupid sticky that does nothing and isn't read.
It would cut down samefagging, shilling, dogpiling, etc. Every post has to matter as opposed to throwing 10 shitposts in to a thread, lest you get filtered for the thread. It might not seem like much, but it improved /pol/, and /b/ when they had IDs, by providing just enough accountability for people to think twice about ruining their reputation for an entire thread, locking themselves out of discussion.
>>
>>315378621
I'm at a point where I need to actually do work at my job so ill keep this short but I'll be in this thread for the next 6 hours.

No I'm talking about "all time favorite maps" the kind of thread that will get 300 image replies over on that other chan. The kind of thread that used to get replies here. Also I agree vg is far better for videogame discussion and that's fucking sad.

There's only need of: more moderation; IDs to avoid samefags; bring back Sage for user moderation; ban tripcodes and names.
A sticky with pin pointed rules would help too.

A split isn't a good idea. But if they really want to create a new board, just make a /vc/ for eCelebs, twitter caps, gossip, Kickstarter and similar shit. But really, it won't change much anyway, it won't stop /pol/ and /a/ crossposters from posting off topic crap.
