If a similar situation happened in an official boxing ring, not only would each participant be protected legally if they accidentally cause the death of their opponent in the ring (as far as I'm aware at least, I don't follow boxing), but they'd also have trained medical staff available at a moments notice to handle it.

The kid seemed like he had swelling of the brain due to impact trauma. That kind of thing requires you to literally drill a hole in the skull to drain excess fluid buildup as a result of inflammation. I doubt they could have done that in the minute to a minute and a half it takes for the pressure to kill off brain cells causing body functions to come to a halt.
Those seizures are indicative of this, along with cardiac arrest. If I was there I could tell you more.

I almost did that at one of my fucking birthdays when I was 8 or so.
I shook a friend while holding him briefly at the neck. It was some stupid in-joke or something. It was like, fucking nothing, but when I let go of him he just fell on the ground with a cold lifeless stare in his eyes like a fucking doll. I even thought he was joking, or actually that's what I wanted to believe he was doing but he just stayed there behind the desk like a lifeless body. I immediately freaked out but couldn't do anything, so I just stood there frozen with a nervous laughter in my face. I looked at everybody else in the room and they hadn't noticed yet and the only thing I could think about was "what the fuck do I do?"
A few moments later though he'd started regaining conscience. First he had moved his eyes and then his limbs, then the head and then I helped him get up and he didn't understand what had just happened. I asked him if he remembered that he had just fallen on the ground and he didn't. He was legitimately confused and didn't remember anything. I started apologizing a million times over and he was looking at me with a weird face like "what the fuck is he talking about?"
I don't know what the fuck happened or why it happened but those seconds he stayed down there felt like fucking hell but man, the relief I felt by merely talking to him right after and seeing that he's recovered from this complete what the fuck scenario was just something else.
