Is this a good investment considering I'd never have to buy another computer for the rest of my life?
>>
>>315339707
This is bait, but no nigger what are you doing?
>Buying prebuilt
>>
If you're already willing to spend that much on hardware, why not?

You're going to die in 5 years?

Uh, no, you dipshit, that's not how it works. You're paying a huge premium for massively increased cost parts that will still become outdated.

Take that 16 fucking thousand dollars, split it into 8, and buy yourself a 2 thousand dollar computer every 2 years instead. You will get a fucking lot more use out of your money and you will have a computer for than 3 times as long.
>>
>>315339707
you're retarded buddy, go ahead

even if you are buying prebuilt. 3 years is fine. at the 4/5 year prices you could just use that money to replace what became broken with something better
>>
I can take the most top-of-the-line parts, put them in a build that will last 10 years and it still wouldn't cost that much. What the fuck makes it cost sixteen fucking THOUSAND dollars?
>>
>>315340568
I'm guessing it's also got a monitor, mouse, keyboard, headset and they're charging like $400 for labor.

Even with those peripherals, it wouldn't cost that much anon. You can get a fucking beast of a machine for 5-8k and it'll be overkill for 10 years easily.

You could pay $50,000 for a computer and it would still probably be obsolete in less than 10 years.

You'd be better off buying a $1000 computer every year.
>>
Since everyone here is green texting. I want to build a PC now that this laptop is on its last legs. I don't have too much time on my hands so if there are any good value prebuilts I'd love to hear it, if not I've been thinking of just buying this.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/4wkKjX

Will this run shit just fine? Anything better price wise?
>>
>>315346691
That's actually not bad, though I'm not sure about AMD processors, never tried them myself.
>>
>>315346691
I would personally spend the tiny bit more to switch the FX to a good mid-end i5, but other than that, not a bad budget build.
>>
>>315346691
why waste money on a cooler on a budget build?
>>
>>315347569
The only thing budget in that build is the processor, every part expect for that is pretty mid tier.
>>
>>315342375
Moore's law
Currently games use 4GB
in 1 year it'll be 8GB
in 2 years it'll be 16GB
in 3 years it'll be 32GB
in 4 years it'll be 64GB
in 5 years it'll be 128 GB
Even using a more accurate doubling every 1.5 years, even if technology slows to a crawl and switches to doubling every 2 years, we'll be at 128GB ram requirement games in 10 years.
>>
>>315349628
Moore's law has been out of whack for a while now. Mostly because companies like intel are much more worried about making computer parts more energy efficient than powerful.
I've been using 8gb of ram since roughly 2007.
>>
>>315349628
Consoles have 8 GBs of unified memory, so the majority of games aren't going to exceed that level of usage until the next generation.
>>
>>315349628
games have been using 3-4 gigs for like 5 years now, you are fucking retarded
>>
>>315349628
Games have been barely using 4GB RAM for close to a decade and can barely even use more than that currently.
>>
>>315339707
How many pop tarts is this thing coming with?
>>
>>315350128
Which ones?
>>
>>315349956
Nobody cares what you use anon, it's what developers use.
In 2006 the ps3 with it's whopping 256mb of ram came out, and very few games made use of more ram than that because the consoles held them back, remember all that? Or are you a fucking newfag.
>>315350049
Unified memory is bullshit, only 4gb of that is usable for what ram is actually used for during games.
>>315350148
>>315350128
Yeah ok nerds, name some fucking games from 2010 which have 4gb as a minimum requirement.
>>
>>315350342
any and all of them. i should have said 3-4 gigs max, because you would be lucky to list the ones that used more than ~3.5 with one hand. that original post is the dumbest one in this thread and that is saying something.
>>
>>315350435
>Unified memory is bullshit, only 4gb of that is usable for what ram is actually used for during games.

So then games aren't even going to exceed that until the next generation.
>>
>>315342375
People from the 90's wouldn't have believed the current specs on computers.
>>
>>315350435
My experience does matter idiot. If I had 8gb of ram in 2007 and moore's law was still relevant, I'd be over 128gb at the moment. It doesn't just apply to games, but computing in general.
>>
>>315346056
Is it still a LAN party if you play with people on the other side of the Atlantic through Hamachi or Evolve?
>>
>>315350587
By 2015 another console generation will have been released, and it will have atleast 64GB of ram in it.
Even if console games and most ports hold back the uitlization of the tech, the technology still upgrades, hence why the ps3 had 256mb, and the ps4 has 4GB (functionally)
>>
>>315350435
>Yeah ok nerds, name some fucking games from 2010 which have 4gb as a minimum requirement.

What the fuck are you talking about bitch nigger? If they're only just making use of 4gb now and barely anymore than that, why the fuck would that be minimum requirement 5 fucking years ago?

I've got the 8350. It's not bad but it runs really goddamned hot.
>>
>>315350929
I paid like 200 dollars for it.
It was not expensive or top of the line at the time. It was not out of the ordinary for a gaming oriented computer to have 8gb of ram at that time. I think you're the retard who is having a hard time remembering shit.
>>
>>315350913
What makes them bad though?
>>
>>315339707

Drop $3k on the box, $500 on a solid monitor, and the other $12,000 on a down payment for a new car moneybags.
>>
>>315339707
That overpriced garbage will be obsolete in approximately 3-4 years when a mid range GPU and CPU will outperform whatever's in that computer.
>>
>>315339707
It will be mid-tier in a couple of years. By year 6-7, it will be a toaster if it hasn't already been trashed by poor maintenance, faulty parts, and malware.
>>
>>315351106
They run hotter, require more power, and have worse single core performance than Intel processors.
>>
>>315351007
PC games won't surpass console specs. Console games will never require 64 GB of RAM.
>>
>>315352629

I really hope this will fix the problem. I dont have enough money to buy a new processor
