has anyone played SH:HD recently on ps3? I hear a lot of issues have been fixed in this version of the game and I don't have the means to play them anywhere else really
>>
You heard wrong, they actually did the opposite and introduced a bunch of issues. Look up the real silent hill experience on youtube, specifically the bit about the HD collection. You'll be sorry if you grab it without knowing the truth.
>>
It's still shit. For everything they fixed they broke three other things.

Do yourself a favor. Find a used PS2, find a used copy of the original PS2 versions, play those.
>>
>>315332334
sorry, I should have been more clear, I heard it launched with a ton of problems and has since been patched to make it better
>>
>>315332557
Seems they answered your question though.
> fixed issues while introducing more
Just not very specific

What about the 360 version? Same deal?

>I hear a lot of issues have been fixed in this version of the game
You've heard wrong.
SOME issues were sort of fixed, but most still remain. Hell, even some NEW were introduced with the patch.

>I don't have the means to play them anywhere else really
You do now: download them for PC:

And in case someone's once again new to this PC gaming stuff: Use a program like DaemonTools Lite to mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.

The "sh2proxy" works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.
>>
The best way to play 2 and 3 is on PC. The HD Collection is trash.
>>
they aren't fixed, if you have an internet connection and a toaster you can play the originals on PC just fine
>>
>>315332916
>What about the 360 version? Same deal?
360 version got NO PATCHES at all, and is literally in the borderline unplayable, however completely butchered in every other way state like it was in release.

Seriously, don't even consider playing the "HD" "Remasters". They are globally considered as THE biggest blunders of the decade, the prime example of how to NOT make "remasters". The graphics are worse than ever, audio is fucked up in all possible ways, the performance can drop to single digits, and no idea how they managed it, but these versions can CRASH.

Seriously, if you got PS2, look up the copies for SH2-4 for those. You can grab SH1 from PSN Store for few bucks; it's the PS1 original, still fucking amazing horror game, and essential lore-wise considering the later titles.
You can obviously also emulate them / play the PC ports (in case of 2-4). They're 13 year old DX8 games; ANY machine with a CPU can play them, no problem!

Even the original Team-Silent's devs hate the HD collection. That's how bad it is.

I actually still have my copy. I haven't bothered to watch the RSHE video cause the two guys who run that channel are retarded about the games anyway and constantly claimed bullshit as fact.

As far as the PS3 HD edition goes, the patch does fix some issues. Pre-patch the framerate in SH3 is god awful and SH2 had this random pause that would keep happening every few moments. The textures are an obvious downgrade but the game looks sharper just cause it's in HD. It's honestly not the worst thing you could ever play, but the PS2 and PC versions will certainly give you a better experience overall and if you had the option to play those, definitely do so. But if you can only manage to play the PS3 version it wouldn't be the end of the world.

>>315334319
Most fans will say yes because they seem to be huge suckers for plot twists. I personally thought it was garbage.
>>
Never played a Silent Hill. May start this weekend, is the PC version of 1 good?
>>
>>315333229
Wow thanks for the heads up. My pc will run the ones available for sure. I have the 360 version unopened sitting around. I'll make sure to sell it then. Now that you mention it I remember them saying something about not patching it bc ms we're going to charge them and they didn't want to spend the money to fix their broken game

>>

There are no PC versions of 1. If you find any claiming to be PC versions, they are at best ps1 emulations and at worse viruses.
>>
>>315334319
I liked it.
I'm a huge fan of SH1, so at first I was super skeptical. Making a western "remake" of the original, with notably geekier and jewish looking Harry, with wagglan controls? Definitely didn't sound like a good idea.

However, once I actually got to play it couple years ago, I was hooked. The atmosphere is great, and even if I'd been spoiled of the ending, I kept doubting my "knowledge" about it.

I ended up replaying it 3 times in a row, and later watch two other people play it through. Each time I witnessed something new I hadn't experienced before.

No, it's not really scary. Yes, it's easy as hell. But it's a nice experience.

>>315334552
There is no PC version.
SH1 is a PS1 exclusive. You can only emulate it on PC, which ain't difficult.

Grab the game from the links above, and use following settings in the pic.

Definitely having those slowdown issues. And I thought that file from the above post was a PC version. I'll just emulate it then.

i recently purchased this hd collection bc i had never ever played silent hill & wanted to experience it. even though they say there are horrible technical issues, it's not as horrible as they make it out to be. if you're looking to enjoy the game for what it purely is, then this isn't a horrible buy to enjoy the two games. i was able to enjoy them both pretty well, and they're one of my favorite games to this day

Obviously the "best", or at least authentic way of playing them. Visually a step behind PC version because of the relatively low resolution, but otherwise they're pretty much the same when it comes to graphical fidelity.

>>315335004
Obviously people who haven't experienced the original versions won't realize all the major fuck ups these "remasters" have in them, and may even dismiss them as "old game problems" instead. The Team Silent's original artist and art-director, Masahiro Ito, himself theorized this with great sadness when the "HD" Collection was released.

Either way, these "HD" ports are made out of unfinished alpha codes, have tons of glitches, visual downgrades, and totally butchered voice acting and soundtrack. No one should submit to this carbage, no matter how much they'd want to play these classics.

And for the love of god people, PLAY SILENT HILL 1 FIRST!

>>315335404
you did good, bro.
>>
>>315334682 meh, someone who doesn't appreciate the originals would still be happy with it for a few bucks. I played the hell out of it on ps1 though so it's issues in this version would probably drive me crazy.

The gameplay is that of your typical Resident Evil: "tank controls", running around in creepy environments, looking for key items and supplies, occasionally solving puzzles and fighting bosses.

I'd say if you play in the release order, you get things "taught" to you in a neat, orderly fashion.

Melee combat is much more present and effective than in Resident Evil though. The fact that you can move and attack at the same time (even though slower / more clunkily) is also a significant improvement from the earliest survival horrors. Oh, and once the enemy is on the ground, KICK IT !

You will rely on your map, a lot! When you enter a major new location, try to look up its map from the environment, ASAP! It's usually right next to the entrance, and glows a bit brighter. In the sequels, the character starts drawing out the map automatically, even if you missed the Map pickup item itself.

Your vision is often hindered by fog or darkness in SH games, but you can use these for your advantage. Moving slowly and turning OFF the flashlight makes it very hard for your enemies to locate and follow you. However, if you do bump into them, it's gonna be harder to disappear again. You can always just leg it as well; just don't try fighting everything you see, especially outdoors.

And as always, each game has multiple endings, but I'd recommend playing them all blind at first. Avoid plot spoilers, see how you fare on your own, and please do replay each title at least once afterwards. Besides the basic things, like seeing the other endings and gaining unlockable bonus items, there's also tons of small details you very easily miss on the first run. I've been playing these titles for a good 15 years, and I still tend to find or read about new stuff every now and then!

For the best atmosphere and experience, play alone, in the dark, with increased volume / headphones, with the in-game Brightness setting lowered, and always at least on the Normal difficulties.

Fuckin' God's work.
>>
>>315336257
Wow, got that finally through after like 10 minutes!

Forgot to add: Yes, KB and M are usable by default in the PC ports.

I tend to play them all with KB-ONLY though, thank old DOOM for that skill. The tank controls fit perfectly for that stuff too.

However, if you're new to this kind of games, a gamepad may help you quite a bit. You can use any controller on this planet with PS1 emulators, but the PC ports of 2-4 don't support the modern Xinput gamepads, as the format did not even exist back then. You either have to use older, DirectInput controllers, or find some working Joy2Key tool and tweak things to your liking with it.

And as stated already: If it is your first time playing SH games, start with the original game! It's story is essential for a lot of stuff in SH3, and in general the gameplay and lore evolve nicely when played in release order.

I'm late to the thread, but how well does this SH1 work? I actually own SH2 and 3 on PS2 I played 2 first and loved it, never finished 3 because I haven't played 1 and the story made no sense without it. I'm sorry
>>
>>315336702
Like said already (and should be obvious in the first place), it's just a rip of the PS1 disc, in ISO form, so you can emulate it on a PC.

It works great. I've ran the same copy like a decade already. It's the NTSC version too, so no censored monsters.

You did well not playing 3 yet. Kinda shame you started with 2 though, you may have a bit... wrong view of how the stuff in the town works.
Also, prepare for much more aggressive, terrorizing experience! SH2 is known to be the tamest, and also easiest game out of the original trio.

...and forgot to add, if you want great settings for SH1, that offer you authentic visuals, with sharper image quality than on original PS1, and without most of the common glitches, check up the guide pic in: >>315334793

Here's and example pic of the settings in action.

Alternatively, just use a Software plugin or one of the "accurate" emulators, for 1:1 authentic, unfiltered 240p visuals in all their glory.

Remember to lower the in-game brightness. Trust me, it really improves the looks in many ways. Most LCD and LED screens are way too bright for the game, so I tend to lower it all the way to 0.

I have SH2 and SH3 for PS2 but I'm letting a friend borrow my PS2 right now so thought I'd give it a try.
>>
>>315338307
Use a program like Daemon tools lite to mount the disk image.
It basically opens the disc image so that the computer sees it as an actual disc.

>>
>>315338307
SH2 was still a CD game. It came on several CDs, which you need to insert in the correct order during installation. Usually at the end of the installation, it requires you to re-insert the disc 1.

Daemontools and similar image mounting programs allow you to swap the digital "discs", just like you would with physical ones.

>>315338370
For starters, sh2proxy ain't exactly a crack, even if it doubles as one.

It is a fan-made compatibility fix, that makes the game run smooth on modern systems (it's very crash-prone otherwise) and also enables widescreen resolutions. The latest version even makes the game compatible with modern enhancements, like the SweetFX.

No, there's no viruses. You can re-download and check it yourself from the project's own page if you're paranoid. Which you shouldn't be.

opinions and preferences. The gif's more of a proof of it working.

I personally quite dislike the default noise filter of SH2 when playing on PC, plus it seems that it dims the supposed bright parts, such as lights, more than the console version. Thus, I started experimenting with the SweetFX effects.

for comparison, here's the SH2's default noise....

Not really sure, I think it is just a monster that blocks the path and it is based on Heathers/Claudias memory of the book that you read.

Otherwise - Alessa got read to with stuff like Alice in Wonderland and Lost World, so it could be based on something like that. A lot of monsters are throwbacks to SH 1 (Split Worm is basically Split Lizard and the Mall Caterpillar/Worm combined from SH1)

which game?
SH2-4 don't directly support Xinput gamepads (Xbox360 controllers). Better use DirectInput pads, or KB+M.

Or try your luck with Joy2key.

Cage of Cradle. It was written by Hitoyuki Owaku, and Masahiro Ito.

He gave Lisa huge titties in it, because apparently he loves drawing them.

actually I don't think you can even get the PC copies new or as official downloads anywhere anymore, meaning you wouldn't be supporting the devs/publishers anyway, just neckbeards on ebay.
>>
>>315334793
Remove this pic from rotation, it's full of stupid and monitor-specific settings. Yes, I know it works on your machine.
>>
>>315351305
this is true.
The only copies available on Ebay / Amazon are pre-owned ones, and people ask ludicrous prices for them.

Plus after breaking up Team Silent, whoring out the SH's IP to random western fucks who raped the series, totally embarrassing themselves with the disastrous "HD Collection", and finally also shooting down Silent Hills, these fucks don't deserve one bit of sympathy or money.

in what sense?
I've been playing my SH3 copy on at least six different computers in the past 10 years.

The system requirements of SH3's PC port are a mere fraction of that required for smooth PS2 emulation.

I played the HD collection at a friends house. It really is terrible, but poor SH3 got the worst of the 'remastering' since there's no original voices and feels way more unfinished and buggy than SH2.
