Because for every actually good side quest, for example tracking the murderer in Novigradwhich was also shit because the vampire had no HP and hit like a wet noodle while being vulnerable to fire instead of fucking immune like an elder vampire should be, not to mention that actually *playing* that quest was fucking awful back and forth running through the shitty docks, there's a shitty FOLLOW THE RED TRAIL TO MONSTERS LAIR AND KILL IT quest.
I beat the game. As in I fucking did every quest I found on the hardest difficulty and I respecced from time to time to try out all the builds and I can say with absolute certainty that the game would have been better if there was less shitty follow the dot treasures and repeated quests. It's just bloat and it tires you out because the base gameplay is very basic and shallow.
I know people are gonna bash me with BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING, but honestly witcher 3 was a bad sandbox with an empty world that would have been much better as a focused game with large maps like TW2.

Well, they like to curse your equipment a lot. They are also demilich and master-lich are covetous as undead they will try to claim the Book of the Dead for themselves so they will teleport to you ASAP. They also like to summon a welcoming party. And if you scratch them, they have a tendency to teleport to the upstairs.
So yeah, they are fun if you like using your consumables.

I have ascended in Angband and I'll tell you something. I don't remember having this kind of fun grinding. There is an infinite amount of consumables since the dungeon levels are not permanent. You can happily go back upstairs and climb them down again to generate a new level. This means that you can use consumables to your hearts content (to a certain degree, since the more valuable ones tend to get rarer).
It was also fun because out of the big 4 roguelikesNethack, Angband, ADOM, DCSS, because it has the most lethal endgame of them all. So you will be running around the dungeon, spamming detection spells/consumables to run away from nasties. There are also vaults that give you huge amount of valuable loot together with out of depth monsters and uniques.
Uniques will keep reappering until you kill them, so just because you ran away from them on a certain floor doesn't mean they won't come back. The final boss, Morgoth, has a very memorable fight you won't soon forget.

You can check if the items are cursed if you drop them on the floor. If your pet steps on the tile where the objects are then they are all safe. If it stubbornly avoids them only to step on them and get the "moves reluctantly" that means they are cursed. Your pet is very valuable for that and because it hits very hard. It will have more chances to get close to you if you have a tripe ration in your inventory, so try to grab one before your pet eats it. And yes, you should walk down the stairs. If you want to have some goals, try to reach the Mines Town and try to beat the Sokoban levels.

Don't add any mods, play it alone without any distractions (phone etc.). Played it back in 2008 and it was one of my favourite games ever since. The audiologs are incredible in adding thick layers of atmosphere. Also try finding a playstyle - I went straight up soldier because I didn't want bother with all the hacking and sneaking around, but someone else might enjoy more problem solving instead.

Blizzard cut a lot of content, things that were shown at Blizzcon were cut, Garrisons turned everything into a phone game with resources and waiting for things to finish for rewards, there was no endgame outside of raids because they removed dailies in favor of the garrison crap, the rewards for reputations were lame and the only way to get reputation was to kill things, since dailies were removed because people didn't like them in MoP.
Faction capitals were cut in favor of ASSRAN, a PVP hub that tried to emulate Alterac Valley but failed. Classes were gutted to remove the spell bloat, but completely fucking ruined a lot of their rotations.
Basically, a lot of shit happened and Rob Pardo left mid development so that is more than likely the reason for a lot of this crap. But I think being the first expansion with no new race or class really fucked it over, since it had nothing else to give.
The story was also retarded, but that's pretty much a given no matter what. Basically it was wasted potential the expansion that cost $10 more.

It's ok'ish. They tried to make it a different experience for every class, but a lot of the levels get reused - although I gotta admit every area feels different thanks to the enemy variety. Especially the last stage shines through somewhat crazy level design. It doesn't hold a candle to Diablo 1&2, but you can get some enjoyment out of it - the whacky humor, fast pace and 3 totally different playstyles are strong arguements for trying it out.
But if you got some nerd friends you should defintely try setting up a Nox multiplayer session. The multiplayer is fun beyond words.
