Having a writer that wasn't Burch for starters.
It actually felt like the game was completely planned out from the beginning with regards to both story and budget. No dips that felt like they ran out of money and no asspulls that felt like they just made shit up on the spot.
>>315319568
A whole lot.
Seriously I know /v/ goes on about memelands but I actually really liked Tales. Telltale does some damn good work.
The relationship between Rhys and Fiona is one of the most enjoyable ones I've seen in fiction to date. They're like brother and sister and it just works, it's so fluid. They're both stupid children but it still feels like they grow and learn, even if they're still stupid children who happen to have learned and grown.
>>315322761
Also, the credit sequences.
God DAMN, the opening credit sequences.
can i see claptrap in this wub wub wub!

Basically everything
I enjoyed it greatly. Character interactions were entertaining and had a nice flow to them, music (intro especially) was spot on, borderlands world/lore was dived into a bit more, I like it.
Sasha > Fiona
>>315320710
Burch actually did quite a bit of writing on TftB, particularly in Episodes 4 and 5.
Choices actually mattered a bit
>Loaderbot, we can't both fit!
>I know.

That shit literally made me scream at my screen.

If there's any fault at all I can find with this game, it was that Fiona's arc felt a bit lackluster next to the Rhys/Jack stuff.

Full vault hunter squad, baby. I picked Felix because they talked about how good he was at plans, but getting a shitload of money for the vault hunter was fine I guess.
Also, I still don't understand how Felix made the switch.
>"When you were knocked out, I disarmed the bomb, switched the money out, and then rearmed the bomb."
Is that why I had to warn him twice before he threw the bomb away from him?
>>315327152
I didn't pick Felix, is he present at the final fight if you pick him?
WHOA
Everything. You can do a shoryuken in a big dumb robot.
>>315327273
Nope, he just gives you money so you can afford hiring Claptrap.
>>315327273
No, he just gives you $10 million and decides he's sitting the fight out. Then you can get thenmystery vault humter, who is none other than Claptrap.
>>315325071
True. GoT is just wasted potential, really. The lore could fit the Telltale-style game perfectly, but the game is mediocre at best.

>>315327273
If you pick Felix, you go to the armoire that fell out the back of the caravan in episode 2 and wait for him. You find out he just left an ECHO device modified for real-time communication where he tells you that he wasn't really backstabbing you, it was just part of a longer con that ended up going to hell.
He switched out the money and leaves it for Fiona and Sasha, but didn't expect the armoire to get blown out the back. He made it look like he dicked them over so they would honestly have no idea where the money was under questioning and blame it all on him so that Vallory's goons would chase him around before Fiona and Sasha could go back and get the money when he would tell them. He took a million, but leaves the other 9.
He doesn't join you in the final fight, but you have enough money to hire the mystery vault hunter.
>>315327746
Asher scenes really make GoT

Best use of the Telltale tool
Choices fucking matter
Plot is excellent
Characters are likeable and well written
Excellent sense of humor
Fantastic OST and musical choices
fantastic character development
fun gameplay ideas
looks great
best use of the potentially great Borderlands universe
TL:DR
It's basically the best use of the Borderlands i.p and the best Telltale game.
>Rhys geeking out over Zer0
>>315319568

How could they fuck up GoT so bad.
The entire premise is about allegiances and consequences.

>>315328551
So as someone who's never played but was considering getting the GoT game, what's wrong with it?
>>315328743
literally the most rushed thing ever
If you've played Tales, you know that Tales took it's sweet fucking time coming out, but considering that it's by far the best thing Telltale has done in a while, up there with TWD1 and TWAU.
GoT is rushed as fugg and looks terrible.
>>315328551
Problem is that GOT is still very popular.
Telltale only does good on franchises that have already hit their stride and peaked.
>TWD
God knows how many issues are out now, but god damn, who even cares after the prison arc
>Fables
Pretty much the same thing. Drawn out and treading water
>Borderlands
A couple of fairly indistinguishable shooter/rpgs
>>315328396
>>315328743
HBO limited telltale to a shitty plot
Doesn't help there was a whole episode of a eastern women screaming "slavery is bad yo"
It's extremely tame other than Asher scenes and it shows they are being held back
>>315319568
I still don't like the character designs
that said the game had some great moments and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
If you're turned off by it being Borderlands you have to consider that Burch didn't write this.
He wrote 3 scenes in total I think and you can clearly tell when he did, so its at least funny once you come across those scenes.
>>315329356
>not liking Obi-Vaughn kenobi
>>315329492
He looked better in the last episode and god damn was I glad he did
He just always looked retarded and while that was part of his character it doesn't help that everyone looks like a retarded cartoon character with a permanent smug expression
>>315329492
>Vaughn beat the guy who captured Rhys and Fiona by using the high ground
Fuck, it all makes sense now.
>>315329356
He wrote
>Scene on top the caravan in ep3
>Fiona and Shasha talk with Janey ep4
>Two guards when you get to Helios
>Athena beaten up and dragged off by Brick and Mordecai
>Planning crew for fighting the Traveler
>"Athena was last scene being dragged off for questioning by vault hunters, but you doubt anyone could hold her long."
>You just go pick her up from her day job of grilling meat kebabs
This really bothered me for some reason. I haven't played the Pre-Sequel, but I guess that game is Athena telling the BL1 vault hunters what happened on Elpsis, but then Lilith wants to straight up execute Athena for some reason. Whatever happens, I guess it's just weird that in Tales, Athena never even makes a passing mention what happened to her or how she got away.
>>315319568
I was really disappointed with a few of the turnouts. Like, if you chose to keep Jack a secret, you really bonded with the character. And all of a suddenhe wants to turn you into another clone? Fuck prechosen paths.
>>315330108
Major spoilers for the Pre-Sequel:After telling her story, Lilith goes niggertits crazy and tries to excecute her before an Eridian stops her and claims that they'll need all the Vault Hunters possible alive for the vagueness that's coming. She was probably let go- her story is told in a single sitting, so she was probably let go not long after her kidnapping.
>>315330136
if you didn't see that coming, you don't understand Jack at all.
>tfw Krieg was teased for Tales
>tfw he wasn't in the game
>tfw he won't be in anything because he was DLC
>>315330136
Jack's motives were always the same, it was just a matter of whether or not you fell for his bullshit.
>>315330136
>Ever thinking Jack won't dick you over if he gets the chance
How many times does it need to be shown that Jack is a facetious, cutthroat motherfucker?
>>315319714
Somebody post it
>>315330627
Don't worry, you'll get him as an NPC with the other vault hunters in the inevitable BL3.
He would have been far more entertaining than Claptrap though. A hulking 7 foot tall Psycho walking in on that debriefing would have been gold.
>>315330564

fun tho
>>315331551
There are references to the borderlands game through the characters, but it's no necessary by any means.
>>315322761
>They're like brother and sister
I was trying to think of the words to describe it, and you just said it. I'm glad that they didn't shoe-horn a romance between them. I think you have to actually go out of your way to pair them together.
>>315331551
The latter.
>>315331551
You would probably be ok with not playing the main series games. There are characters from and references to events in the other games, but they do a good job of filling in the major plot points that come up in tales.
>>315331646
can you actually ship them together? I thought Sasha was the only option for Rhys.
Do I need to play other Borderlands game(s) to enjoy/understand this?
>>315331646
I never understood the whole shipping Rhys and Fiona thing. Their relationship definitely felt more fraternal than romantic.
>>315331857
You can, but all the major VAs think Rhysha is the best.
>>315331857
Well, I've heard you can, but I'm not 100% sure.
>>315331964
No, and it's not even written by Burch for the most part, so it's infinitely better.
>>315332112
you tell Rhys to stay the hell away from Sasha, Rhys can then pick "I like someone else." that heavily implies its Fiona.
>>315331964
Absolutely not.
>>315332112
You basically have to not ship Rhys and Sasha through the entire playthrough, and there's one piece of really non-committal dialog at the end of episode 5 that leaves the option of Rhys and Fiona open but ambiguous.
>COME ON
>IT'S ROMANTIC
>PICK THE FLOWER
>PICK THE PRETTY FLOWER AND GIVE IT TO HER
Fuck you, game. It's Pandora. I don't want to touch any of the wildlife or fauna.
>Sasha picks the flower and it sprays goop all over her fact that causes jellyfish to swarm us
Nice try, game.
>>315327097
>mfw the intro to Episode 5 with Retrograde playing
I know some people didn't like it but fuck that was a good opening. Seeing all the employee's escape pods heading down to Pandora, the Hyperion ships getting wrecked and Rhys/Fiona just sitting in theirs taking in everything.
>>315332986
I wouldn't say depressing but I can't find the words to describe it
Glad they addressed the fact that he killed thousands of people doing that
>>315329761
I fucking knew he must have wrote that guard scene. Its so bad and reeks of inserted politics. "Lets for no reason talk about how great my brothers gay wedding was"
>>315319714
I never got why it's "foreverial". Why does he use those words like that? Shouldn't it be just "forever"?
>>315333191
Sobering. It was sobering.
Part of the masterful balancing act Tales did between fun, funny, and seriously dramatic.
>>315327097
I'm glad you posted the song for the best intro. That intro is what sold me on the game.
>>315333625
The moment you hit the boost and this music starts playing was the moment I realized this was going to be the best Telltale series.
>>315333625
2 & 5 definitely had the best intro's but I feel like 3 & 4 don't get nearly enough love. They all pretty much nailed it in terms of setting the appropriate tone for their respective episodes.
>they need a rocket to get to Helios
>just strap massive boosters to the caravan
>that Fiona lean in
this shit killed me

I'm actually kind of sad Tales didn't get a hold of the other BL2 characters to give personality to. Zer0, for how bare he was, managed to be cool. I wish they had taken some of the other ones and given them canon personalities so I wouldn't have to deal with Gearbox characterization.
>Gaige is just Tiny Tina v.2
>Axton is legit a fucking retard
>>315329761
>Scene on top the caravan in ep3
that was?
>>315323376
i think he only write character that already exist on B2 like scooter and claptrap
no way burch become main writer after this
>>315335468
This version of Scooter was way better than BL2's. In BL2 he had really odd and jarring mean streaks that came out in quests and stuff where he was basically paying Vault Hunters to kill the shit out of people for really petty things.
>Gortys' ham-hocks
Gortys and Loaderbot were fucking cute. FUCKING CUTE.
>>315335327
It actually managed to redeem Scooter for me. Like I never really cared about him but this game gave me at least a little respect for him.

I've played the first and second BL, I passed on the pre-sequel since it looked like more of the same.
After playing TotBL I am kind of tempted to play it though, get more handsome Jack backstory.
Anyone know if the pre-sequel is any good?
>>315336074
Enjoy, dude. Going back and experiencing BL1, 2, and Pre-sequel writing after Tales will be like eating glass.
>>315319714
>>315329761
He did some of the Jack conversations in ep 5 as well, specifically the opening...which was kind of weak but not that bad.
>>315336803
Its bad.
The beggining is worse than BL2 beggining at that ice map thing.
Also SJW references everywhere in the game writings, making it an annoyance to read thur the dialogues
>>315336803
It's alright. The game uses fetch quests way too heavily. Run from one side of the map to the other, grab item, run back, finish mission. This then unlocks the next mission on the other side of the map, so get running. Writing is better than 2, but that's not saying much. At the end of the day it's just more of the same, so if you liked 1&2 you know what you're getting into, now its just got bad accents and an oxygen mechanic.
>>315337309
>The game uses fetch quests way too heavily.
Sounds like BL1
I realize that I sound like happy merchant, but it felt sort of weird that most of the characters were normal looking white people?
I mean, most characters were white in the original borderlands games, but they all had a distinctive style, swarmy dwarf, tatooed lady, dusty edgelord, various types of odd women, etc
all these characters just felt like normal boring people
I wonder if that's why their interactions were good? Or was that incidental
>>315336803
the reason I won't play it again is that I can't ignore that they used only local voice actors, so everyone sounds like a lower class kiwi
its too bad because while the buttstomp was terrible and the talent trees were bland, the laser guns types and frost element were exactly what I wanted
>>315337848

>>315338015
Were the new hunters any fun? Nisha looked boring with her ability being auto aim, but Captain America shield and Jack clones sounded fun.
>>315337848
Incidental. They could be unique individuals without having to have visual gimmicks.
They're more abstract character types, because unlike most of the PCs of the other games, they actually have personalities.
>>315324876
Weakest is a tossup between 2 and 3. I really liked the biodome, but it was a pretty damn slow area. And then the sudden change in pace in the same chapter was a bit... uncalled for.
>>315329761
I actually really liked the guard scene.
>"is that some kind of anime?"
>"Hello ladies, what's good?"

TotBL actually managed to get me invested in some of the characters, but I guess I'm probably looking in the wrong place if I want characters to be fleshed out more.
I also kept seeing Brock Samson whenever this guy spoke. I don't think the voice actor can voice anything else without that happening.
>>315338183
no as I mentioned the talent trees were pretty bland
claptrap was just teamplay chaos, the trollening
cap america is like any melee class, if you don't like that playstyle it's just not going to work for you
nisha felt very similar to gaige, but you couldn't use her cheese build against actually powerful enemies
didn't play roland 3.0 but I assume he's the same deal, good at staying alive but not damage?
I gave up long before jack and history revision were released
>>315337848
Them being normal-ish people was a large reason I could enjoy it. I've never felt any tension or stakes in the other Borderlands games because your characters are immortal psychopaths that laugh gleefully as people burst into flame and gore clouds around them. Having a normal-ish guy look terrified and anxious about even being near the conventional Borderlands psycho, not to mention writing a motorcycle in some twisted motor rally, means that there's actually tension surrounding that character surviving or not or how he'll react to what's going on.
>>315338786
Which makes it all the better when based Loaderbot blasts onto the scene to save your pathetic ass.

That was probably more just Zer0 in that case but yeah pretty much.

>>315347542
Here.
Pretty tired of his shit, but I figured it wasn't the time to be a dick and letting him bleed out would've been worse.
Also, I already shot him with two of the three elements, figured I might as well hit him with the last one to make it complete.
>>315347761
>Murdering Finch
>Evil
Motherfucker I'm a moralfag and I had her murder him. He very clearly showed throughout the course of the story that his continued choices led to more and more deaths
>>315347860
>bullets were further inside Fiona than Rhys ever will be
Guys guys guys, clearly it wouldn't have been Rhys to end up with Fiona. It would've been Scooter.
>>315339041
He's pissed at you for the rest of the game, its really not worth it.
>>315347860
She's free to meet some vault hunter dude. Maybe she'll get drunk and invite Brick to conduct a pain train on her behind.
>>315348204
>There are people who didn't initiate step 3
Does Finch have a custom scar according to what element you shot him with? I shot him with corrosive and it gave him some real toxic looking shit on half of his face.

>>315348756
Yeah.
>>315348350
Not quite, you can make up with him later.BRO epic BROfist, BRO.
>>315348069
I tried to play Fiona as largely moral and still didn't blink an eye at killing Finch.

AND YOUR FRIENDS ARE GONE

>Choices actually mattered a bit
It's a Telltale game. I really doubt that.
>>315350415
I don't think people tend to really consider what it means when your choices actually matter a lot.
Generally that tends to mean there's a wrong and a right way to play and that usually you're picking the wrong way.
I'm fine with my choices affecting the flavor of the story without dramatically fucking up the outcome.
>>315350559
Flavors of the story in past Telltale games have been completely negligible.
>SAVE PERSON A OR SAVE PERSON B
>Choose save person A
>Person B survives anyway
>Person A dies immediately afterwards or at the very start of the next episode
>Choose save person B
>Person A dies and person B is mad at you
>>315350415
They kinda do in the end.
Who you can recruit in the last episode depends on some of the choices you made previously.
>>315350559
Exactly. I feel like a lot of people expect Telltale games to be on par with the old "choose your own adventure" books or something like that. The problem is, by the time you hit episode 5 they'd have to write 20 different endings for each possible storyline. It's just not logistically feasible.
>>315351805
Not to mention most of those stupid CYOA books had like 50% of the choices just lead to "Oh you got eaten by a yeti" or some shit. They were just choices on how you wanted to die.
IT'S NOT TOO LATE
TO SAVE THE WORLD FROM DYIN
>>315322761
can somebody explain the "memelands" to me?
>>315352725
Same old /v/ rhetoric. The main Borderlands games have a bunch of dumb jokes so people who don't quite get what the word means call them memes, and by association the game becomes a "meme" game, thus "Memelands", because /v/ is ever so clever.
>>315350415
I was actually pretty surprised with how much the playthroughs were different depending on a couple of key choices:
>Go to Hollow Point or Old Haven
>Trust Jack or Fiona
>Actually be buddy buddy with Jack or keep him at arm's length and tell him you don't want his help
And then the game lets you hand pick a crew to fight the big bad guy thing with their availability dependent on your choices throughout the game.
>>315352873
And look what ended up happening.

Goddamnit 4chan look what you did.
>>315352725
There was a large shift in narrative style between Borderlands 1 and 2. Borderlands was a new IP which saw way more success than the creators probably expected. This meant they had to expand on the setting quite a bit for the sequel. In particular they threw in a lot of pop culture references which on top of somewhat shoddy writing made a lot of people on /v/ hate it. On top of that one of the main writers, Anthony Burch, suffered a very public meltdown on social media and became a generally shitty person who was easy to make fun of.
why wasn't Ash in this game?
>>315353254
i don't know what to call this
>>315353692
thank anon
im still going to get borderlands 3, but now i know why the hate
>>315353927
Because she's already attached to a character and Telltale knows that Tiny Tina would have been shit in their game. And they're right.
>>315354010
It's the creators making fun of butthurt. Not that uncommon.
>>315347542
I shot him. More of a mercy than letting him lay there bleeding to death waiting for some skags.
>>315353927
>tfw you think Ash a cute but then you remember her brother is Anthony Burch.
>>315355328
It's more like an ouroroboros of butthurt.
Butthurt creators making fun of butthurt players making fun of butthurt creators.
It's like an asspain singularity.
Fiona is a top fucking tier waifu. I hope she comes back in BL3 or even a season 2 for Tales as a grizzled vault hunter.
I would really like a story that starts with a character being affected by the opening of a vault. The story starting with a vault being opened instead of ending with it like every other game.
Episode 2 has so many great moments, but I definitely loved this one on my second playthrough (I was a bro my first playthrough and told Vaughn everything).

>>315355686
>season 2
I hope so, even if I'm probably just heading towards disappointment (fuck you, TWD S2)
Anyways, they have to explain why they just disappeared at the end.Or do they?
>>315336261
I can't remember where, but I read a source stating that the writers had said that Fiona and Sasha were the Pandoran equivalent of Mediterraneans.
>>315355882
Tales' version of Handsome Jack almost makes me forget he's an evil, selfish bastard of the highest order.
>Talking to Scooter about the race sponsorship as Fiona
>He's completely fine and we make a deal
>Sasha walks up
>Scooter can't even formulate sentences because all the blood's run to his dick
>He just scurries off because he can't talk with Sasha around
>Later he says he has a crush on Fiona
Seemed odd to me.
>>315356247
Sasha best girl. What more can you say?
that chin looks like vallory's
>>315356568
I like her endgame hair better.
>>315356223
Yuppppppppppppp...

I know the humor or the games is very superficial, but the cool thing about Borderlands is that every character is super morally ambiguous. Everyone, including the character you play, is an asshole that enjoys killing people. It's just a matter of who it is you're murdering and for what reason that makes you better than the other person.
Is Athena a full blown dyke?
I haven't played the Pre-sequel so this was my first interaction with her. She's a cute. CUTE
>>315357039
Yeah. It's one of the reasons I like her.
>>315356796
Most definitely.
>>315356568
>>315356796
>>315357741
Muh niggas.
Her endgame hair gave this motherly vibe, I don't know it justmade my dick rock hard.
>>315357957
>that moment when she shows up with the new look.
Like diamonds.
>The mystery vault hunter is Claptrap
FUCKING KILL ME. Why not Krieg? Why not Brick or Mordecai?
