Don't listen to that Anon about 14 hours being nothing. It's not enough, but you're getting there. Read online about it and try to apply your new knowledge to training, bots, and then online. Make sure you can do it consistently. I usually spend like two to four hours at a time learning new tech with my team.
Now, I've been playing for a while, but I never really felt like I /got good/ until this year. I only had like twenty-something hours in SG when it really clicked, but I've been playing fighters poorly for a long time. I'm 100+ hours in now and I get bored online. People at my local fight night still dunk my shit, though.
Point is, anon. Keep at it. What really did it for me was having fun in training mode. It's so comprehensive and it gives you all the data to feel empowered about tuning your playstyle.

I've tried everything from Melty Blood to Arcsys games to KoF, but for some reason I just inherently suck at them. They're a lot more fun to watch than Capcom games, especially when you understand what's going on.

Fighting games are kind of flawed genre no matter how much streetfuckers delusion themselves to think otherwise. It is only meaningful when you get to have opponents close to your level. When you fight someone too easy, it's boring and waste of time. When you fight someone too good, you learn nothing and it's frustrating. The old school had no problem finding the similar skill levels thus allowing them to grow to where they are, because the popularity of fighters in the 90s were akin to MOBAs nowadays. Nowadays? One reason I like Smash is because the inputs, for the most part, are fairly simple. Up/Down/Left/Right + A/B/Grab. Whereas Street fighter you have shit like Down - Angle - Forward + Heavy attack, or Forward - 180 the control stick + Light attack or whatever. It's the pick up and playableness of Smash that I enjoy.
Yes I know, Smash has some crazy ahit under the good (wave dashing and short hops and all that), but that's more advanced shit and I never quite got the hang of any of that.
Then there are RTSes and my only tactic is "Select all units and bumbl rush an enemy."

I just can't seem to wrap my head around what I need to do in it, and it calls to me to finish it, to this day, long after it was stolen.

I used to be godlike at counter strike, like get placed in the game midway through and ace the enemy team of guildies with the starter pistol and get banned off the server. Now i cant hit jack shit.
used to feel comfortable topping the meters in wow and being able to beat anyone in pvp. now i cant do arenas worth shit.
At least i have improved somewhat at starcraft broodwar.

I've already told you that I've been all that. This isn't about me, it's about the flaws of the genre if you can manage to read. I'm sharing you my frustration with trying to get others to play my favorite genre, and I've given you the examples I've seen first hand that points out the flaws of the genre. I'm really not terrible as you think I am. Not one word of my post so far has been a shit post. Not every reply you disagree with is a shitpost, okay? Lord bless your poor soul, I wonder how your IRL convos go. It's a reason why there already has been numerous attempts to evolve the genre such as the latest Mortal Kombat, or god forbid I don't trigger you, Smash Brothers. You're very content to block out criticism because you're passionate and choose to act like a blind fanboy, but consider the fact that there are fraction of fighting game players now compared to the 90s. There is a reason that is is dying and it needs change.

I JUST got a 47 just now though so I feel pretty good right now, but I'm still 3 times slower than
