I'm jaded about both current Mario RPG series and I see nothing wrong with Paper Jam.
Pokemon on the other hand is on hold until their 20th anniversary, so I don't expect bombs to drop until Z or whatever the fuck is coming up.
NOA's high point was the GameCube and GBA days. They lost their cool around 3DS or late DS.
Amiibos print money. A lot of the locked content behind them tends to be optional or cosmetic at best.

They even got the KOF artist to do the CO designs for Days of Ruin (which actually had a much better American localization than what Europe got), so it's not like the games couldn't be stylish.
