The story is only 12 missions. Most of it is going around doing enough side missions to get a new story one, so a lot of poor farmers who need stuff collected and collect ten alien butt cheeks.

You're minimizing the elements of gameplay down to stereotypes without understanding the nuances therein. The cooldown timers, positioning, statistical and skill-focused setups both before and during battle, as well as the fact that your buffs/debuffs/status/inventory all matter generally put it above MMOs, as well as the fact that it's not painfully grindy and focused primarily on your own abilities rather than generic raid groups set up to kill raid bosses, and that the story and setting are both very, very nice. If you've actually played WoW or WoW clones, you'd know why XBC is leagues ahead of them by comparison.

Basically, you target an enemy, and then you and your two buddies, three in total, wail on him. Your allies use whatever moves they feel like, although you decide which moves they have available. Same for yourself, except you actively decide which moves to use.
All moves have cooldowns, but no mana consumption or anything. Some moves have different traits, such as Shulk's monado charging up as the battle goes on, and having a variety of moves to use once it's fully charged.
The appeal of the gameplay largely comes from the fact that you can see into the future where you die or take massive damage, and you are given the information that could help you prevent that bad future. If you actually succeed at this, the awesome dragon ball z music kicks in, and then you guard break that fucker, and it's very satisfying somehow.

You can control type of attacks and position of your team. Not sure about controlling specific types of attacks, can't read much in japanese. But you certainly can give orders to keep certain formation.
you can completely equip them how you like as well as insert and level up whatever skills you want.
also vs Chronicles, you can switch between melee and ranged autoattack weapon, also each particular skill uses either ranger or melee weapon.
You have interaction with your party, they can ask use type of particular skill, if you do that correctly you get some HP back as well as bonus damage.

The only JP voice pack I know of was Drakengard 3, and Squeenix said they're considering doing the same thing with FF15. Their big problem for filesize is pre-rendered movie files that need to be included twice because they use hardsubs on them.
There might have been a Vita game, the only thing that comes to mind is Dynasty Warriors releasing higher quality audio as an additional download, it was still English though.
