>HOLY SHIT, IM A FUCKIN PIRATE PLUNDERING SHIPS, why did I ever stop playing this?!
>do story missions
>Tail, Tail, Eavesdrop, Eavesdrop, Eavesdrop, Tail, Tail, Tail
Oh, right, that was why.
>>
>never touch story
>play the game like Sid Meier's Pirates
this is how you make it the best game
>>
>>315260020
Do assassin missions instead, they can actually be fun
>>
>>315260189
Those missions are literally just kill a guy in an area, and follow these conditions for a whole 500 Reales more, tail someone for a bit then kill them, or defend an area. The ones with story are just Edward bitching about not having enough money and trying to get out of helping people he himself put a target on.
>>
>>315260097
The only pirate things I have left to do are collectibles (buried treasure, etc), which I can't 100% finish because I need to do the story to open up certain islands; and defeating two more legendary ships, I've already got my ship max upgraded (except for Elite Fire Barrel Storage, but that's useless), but the fight against the two Man O' Wars keep wrecking my shit, and since I'm already at max ship, the only thing left to do is git gud, but I suck at vidya.

Also, apparently I can't craft certain weapons and armor to use in single player, because they require you to do "online events," which they don't do anymore because the game is like two years old. What the fuck kind of bullshit is that? Why is Ubisoft so fucking obsessed with having the single- and multiplayer modes interconnect instead of making them use separate drinking fountains like god intended?
>>
>>315260189
The assassination missions were pretty boring. The naval contracts were better, but that's because it was just more naval combat.

I think this game is going to occupy a similar space in people's minds as Spider-Man 2, where one really good mechanic is enough to carry the entire game, and you'll remember it fondly despite the majority of the game actually being pretty bad.
>>
>>315260020

>muh pirate simulator

Rogue is miles better
>>
>>315260813
>Rogue
>no naval contracts
>can't drink
>>
>>315260384
>against the two Man O' Wars keep wrecking my shit
Position your boat so that they're both on the same side and don't allow them to encircle you.
>>
>>315260813
Didn't bother with Rogue. If it's cheap enough this Christmas, I might pick it up.
>>
>>315261374
I've been trying to do that, but one always manages to then go around me going around them. They're too fast. I've been doing decent damage just getting away from them and mortaring them from afar, but even at max carry capacity, that's only 20 shots.
>>
What is the best shanty and why is it "Leave her, Johnny"?
>>
>>315260020
It's funny. People praised BF precisely because it dispensed with a lot of AC bullshit and just did the piracy thing. Whenever you're following story proper it's a return to same old bullshit.

Even without the usual AC nonsense, the story felt too disjointed and timeskip-heavy for me personally. Guess, it makes sense with sea travel taking months of ingame time, but it still made harder to keep track of characters and events.

I would honestly just pick a random destination to sail too while having the crew sing the collected shanties, something about gently guiding the Jackdaw to its destination while the crew sings to the high heavens was too comfy to ignore. Fuck I have to play this game again now.
>>
>>315263616
The timeskipping has always been pretty bad in AC

I still find it weird how I didn't manage to pick up that James Kidd was actually the cross dressing pirate Mary because I remember reading that story in my early youth. The tales of the adventurous women pirate who dressed like a man and went on adventures with her friend only to caught and locked away in prison to die.
>>
Rogue was alright the ship mechanics are better but sadly it throws itself headfirst into the assassin shit no one wants or cares about and shay is a horrible mc almost as bad as that faggot in 3 and you're not a pirate anymore. Bf with rogues mechanics and setting would be a great game and they could even had expansions to open up the whole world for sailing but no we get more ac bullshit

Syndicate is the 9th proper game. Only comparable to Unity, and it is literal gold compared to that.

Syndicate > Unity in the third.

Make of that what you will.

>>315267087
the genre has been dead for years because it has too repetitive gameplay.
The sea battles can not be innovated, plundering villages/towns never was a thing that could be incorporated well. Boarding ships only is fun in an asscreed setting -> takes too much effort. diplomacy has no meaning, since you are a pirate. crew management is stale.
the only games that kinda made an okayish pirate game in the last couple of years were black flag/rogue and pixel piracy. and these titles lack serious amount of everything else besides their "main game".
it is not a marketing boogeyman, it's a gameplay boogeyman
>>
>>315260813
Is it really? I've never played it, but could you explain what makes it better?
>>
>>315267464
Yeah I meant more that the games are usually ass which makes most people assume a new pirate game is gonna be ass so no one really wants to come up with a "refreshing take" on the theme since the audience isn't really there than there being some anti-piracy conspiracy. Cowboy/outlaw/gangster themes will always be a lot easier to make something fun out of than pirates while retaining a chunk of the appeal that makes people like pirates so why bother.
>>
>>315260020
I'm in the same boat as you buddy, the pirating stuff doesn't hold it all up.
Ubisoft games are always the same old same, I just played some Splinter Cell Blacklist (even the name is re-used it seems) and you can see the Assasins creed recycling everywhere when it comes to movement and also the style of the UI and such things. Although this game is actually quite doable unlike Assassins Creed.
>>
>>315261747
Do the mortar thing to severely damage one of them. Then git gud to take it down without getting circled. Once there is just one left, let him tackle you once (not frontly) and then, when he runs away shoot the frontal chain cannon and charge, frontal chain cannon and charge. repeat until take it down.

You can do that without taking out the first one, but you maybe get side cannoned, I can't certainly recall.
>>
>>315261374
Try to whittle them down at the same time, when one of them enrages you're in for an ass whooping.

Also if they try to bombard you from both sides brake. That makes them both overtake you and minimalize damage taken.

Once you're done with those to clench your anus for The Niggress

>>
>>315264253
Sailors/privateers of the time would have known a huge list of songs like these to pass the time, think about it, you're spending weeks and months at a time at sea getting drunk with the lads. You've gotta have a bit of a sing, eventually you'd just get good at it.
>>
>>315270384
>The Niggress
Which one was that? The ghost ship?

It was the easiest of all legendaries for me, beat it on my first try. Took the first ramming hit, then just stayed just in front of it and spammed fire barrels, finished it with heavy shot barrage in melee range.
>>
>>315270384
If you have trouble with the double Man O' War fight you're going to hate the Legendary double Man O' Wars. The gimmick is you need to beat them almost simultaneously or the second ship will enrage and wreck you.

Even they aren't as hard as El Impoluto and his ram spam.

>>
>>315277906
I think Rogue already holds that sport. It's definitely short enough to.
>>
>>315277567
>kill everyone with easy to do counter attacks

This is in literally every AC game (save for Unity I think)
AC is not a hardcore game (I say that as someone who finished every major title except for Unity and Syndicate.) and mostly targeted at casuals who think they are good at games.

>never be stealthy
That's your own fault. You have ample options to not get detected and this is even expanded in further titles. If you expected Splinter Cell or Thief then no. It is not a pure stealth game.

>boring af missions
I agree , those are easily the worst part about AC 1. This get's better in future titles. Though one nice side effect of them is that they allow you to get to know your Assassination target better. Later titles skip that, thus making the final Kill (in my opinion at least) less climactic). Also , less time spent gathering information = less memorable character.

>stupid fucking story

That's an argument coming straight from a 10 year old. Why is it stupid? Was it the Modern Day stuff? The setting ? The pacing? Just saying it sucks doesn't lend much weight to your argument.

So what happened in the 'Modern Day' story thread since AC3? This game was so bad, I ended up fucking regretting having pirated it. That's how bad it was.

Ships were nice the first time, but then they grew fucking repetitive. The rest was just standard AC gameplay, with zero challenge, pointless collectibles, boring open world, shit writing, atrocious story, and overall very forgettable.

Great visuals, music and art as usual though. Yet another game with wasted potential. It's truly sad to know Ubisoft could make awesome games if only they got the gameplay right.

On PS3 or PC, though? I don't know how helpful that thread is going to be, since the last post was two years ago, which was pretty much when the game came out.

I guess I'll just keep playing while connected to PSN and hope I run into that stuff. I do know for a fact that the "community challenges" are gone and are impossible to do know.

Is AC: Syndicate still doing this forced multiplayer bullshit?
>>
>>315286705
I actually played it again.

It's just as buggy as its sequels, story is way more interesting, characters are more fleshed out, and combat seemed harder at first- sequels really have gotten easier with much more forgettable fall damage and parry windows. I almost had a hard time before figuring out how to fight properly again, especially considering most combat moves are locked at the start.

AC1 aged like ass, but it still blows every single sequel out of the water, because none managed to fix any of the shit that was wrong in this game and only made everything worse.

>>
>>315286967
>because none managed to fix any of the shit that was wrong in this game and only made everything worse
The big complaint that everyone had with AC1 was how tediously repetitive it was. Every single mission played out exactly the same: make your way down from your stupid mountain then eavesdrop, pickpocket, and beat up a dude, then do the assassination. If you were a masochist, you would do every instance of those three activities instead of just the mandatory three. Then when it came to the assassination, they all amounted to chasing the guy down the street because you couldn't air assassinate. Then run to the rooftop and wait to get the next of identical missions.

Those were the two massive, glaring issues with the game, issues that AC2 more than fixed.

>Those were the two massive, glaring issues with the game, issues that AC2 more than fixed.
AC2 is filled with repetitive shit, and said repetitive shit became even lower quality, because it was fully voiced in AC1 while just a text description in AC2. All they did was add a couple more scripted missions, that's literally it, because nothing else changed.

There were many other massive issues: the piss easy combat and complete lack of challenge, the broken stealth, the broken climbing, the terrible AI, the empty open world... and none of those have changed the slightest.

Eight, fucking EIGHT sequels, and combat is still shit and without challenge, climbing is still garbage, stealth was thrown out the window, AI is even more retarded, and open world got bigger and bigger with less and less content.

They barely fixed half of a problem, big fucking deal, hurrah Ubisoft.

His grandson is half an Indian. In fact Edward Kenway to Haytham to Connor is the only ancestry that makes any sense, since it's explained how you go from ruggedly handsome Welsh guy to angsty Indian kid.

How you go from Arab to Italian then to Welsh is far less adequately explained. Or how in the roughly 200 years since the American Revolution you go from angsty Indian kid back to Arab?

Fucking protip: it all got retarded when Ubisoft retconned everything, by deciding Ezio and AltaĆÆr were not related to begin with, despite having the exact same fucking face and Ezio considering AltaĆÆr his ancestor, and sharing his DNA.

But then suddenly, it's just the Animus making it look like they have the same face, and now Desmond has millions of ancestors so they can endlessly make sequels.
>>

>climbing is still garbage
What is your alternative exactly? Everyone bitches about the climbing being mindless, but there is no way in hell you legitimately want to press a button every single time you have to take a step, every single time you have to jump to something, every single time you want to do anything at all. They already let you drop, kick off walls, jump grab, descend quickly, slide under and over object, and leap distances you couldn't dream of in the games prior to 3.

Do you honestly want to go back to the crabbing system of 1 to AC:B except this time you mash the jump button every second to climb instead of holding it? Hell, 3 was a much needed improvement to speed things up(Though being unable to get knocked down after running into too many people was a stupid removal), yet for some reason people cling to the older system when you ran at snail speed, just barely could climb anything taller than a house in around five minutes, and every step you took was slow as molasses. Hell, AC:R was the fastest of the oldest games and even that is slow in comparison to 3. Going back to 1 or 2's climbing is torture after playing AC3 or higher.

The game will never be Mirror's Edge, and it never should be, the shit you would need to do climb a simple building would be unnecessary and irritating since the entire game revolves around you climbing things.

My guess is that when Ubi decided to make Unity a next-gen exclusive, they wanted something to get revenue from the older platforms.

>Shay is an idiot and his heel-turn feels forced and quick rather than natural.
>Assassins act like complete retards while Templars are portrayed as patron saints sans Haytham.
>Haytham is out of character outside of his Achilles scene.
>"Assassins hunting you" essentially means the same old woman and tribal man attack you every two minutes in a town and they're very obvious and exist only to make guards chase you instead of hurt you.
>You're handed Berserk Darts within the second sequence.
>New bounty system is idiotic and basically creates a giant circle from where you are when you shoot someone for your bounty but takes ages for it to drop(We're talking fifteen minutes realtime sailing before it drops to 0).
>Legendary battles are way easier than in BF, except the final one which is amazingly unfair.
You fight a legendary ship along with four normal Brigs at the same time, then you get the main one which is constantly launching mortars, has quintuple the health you have, has heaters with a MoW amount of cannons that reload in three seconds, and then once you drop it to half health two more legendary ships pop in to kill you as well.
>River Valley is the most boring sailing area but has the best islands.

In what way? As a character he says he's struggling with fighting the Assassins, but he immediately gets over this with a pep talk to himself the instant after he beats up those thugs, and the only ones he really acts sad to kill are Hope and Adewale.

His betrayal is simply because Achilles and Hope wouldn't listen to him after he barged into his leader's office in the middle of the night unannounced due to an accident the Assassins knew absolutely nothing about, and while Achilles' reaction was understandable to an extent, Shay just was an absolute retard at that moment, especially since he had to get his mind in order the entire way back from wherever he was.

The Assassins he kills barely have any sentimental value and are almost immediately killed as soon as you get to know them(Some you don't even get to, like the Native American guy and the asshole French guy who you meet for all of two missions), so his sadness for killing them feels out of place despite them saying they trained him.

Sure, he questions what the Assassins are doing about two times which is understandable since they're pretty sketchy things, but he acts like a kind-hearted man and then instantly switches to ruthless killer at the drop of a hat while preaching about how he didn't want to do it.

He had the potential to be a good character, but with how short the sequences were it felt rushed, unbelievable, and heavily forced in many ways.
