Do you emulate games?

Did you know that rotational velocidensity affects all ROM files ripped to a harddrive? These include .smc, .smd, and .sa1.

What this means is that for each year the ROM sits on your hard drive, it will lose roughly 12kbs, assuming you have SATA - it's about 15kbs on IDE, but only 7kbs on SCSI, due to rotational velocidensity. You don't want to know how much worse it is on CD-ROM or other optical media.

I started collecting ROMs in about 2001, and if I try to play any of the games I downloaded back then, even the stuff I ripped myself, they just play like crap. The audio is terrible, the visuals...well don't get me started on that diarrhea. Some of those games have degraded down to 60 or even 30kbs. Cartridges from the same period still play great, even if they weren't stored correctly, in a cool, dry place. Seriously, either stick to cartridges or use an SSD. you may not be able to see the difference now, but in a year or two, you'll be glad you did.

I transcode 128kbps mp3s to FLAC and upload them to waffles.fm and what.cd
So far I've not been caught and received nothing but compliments about the quality.
