Well fine, cut it down from 300 but give them unique dialogue. It certainly didn't feel like there were any more villagers.
I still never understood this in games. Like, you write a line of dialogue such as, I dunno, "Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter." Then instead of coming up with a few more lines, you use this one line for a boatload of NPCs, even across multiple voice actors.

I'm not even asking for that level of depth; I just don't want to be talking to a villager and realize that he's using literally the exact same dialogue as the villager two doors down. Same depth to the characters as what they have now; they talk to you, they like it when you do stuff for them and send them letters, do holiday stuff, but with unique dialogue for each one.
