Fuck, I remember figuring out the format to cheat codes in Simpsons Road Rage and sitting there for literally half an hour putting every combination I could think of in.

When I unpaused the game there was no skybox, I could see the hitboxes for objects, I was driving as Mr. Burns in a red brick car and had unlocked a top-down camera perspective... shit was fucked up.

Ratchet and clank still does big head mode, but you need to earn it by getting enough skill points rather than entering in a code

Anyone else wish that when vidya games do this sort of holiday crap that they do it for longer than a day? It's annoying when it's just ONE day.

Like, gimme two weeks to enjoy that shit without having to tinker with my system clock.

I would say so. Gotta love dem Halloween missions.
>>
>>290607261
Some codes do shit like skip a section of a game or enter debug mode or something.

You wouldn't just want it there in the options menu for anyone to see and fiddle around with.

But if you put it in the form of a code it's most likely that whoever's using the code has already seen a fair amount of the game and is a bit of an insider too.

this one hurts the most for me. The shit they pass as easter eggs now are either stupid shallow meme references or things you'd have to be paraplegic to miss in the first place.
I miss when you had to do shit no one would think of doing in the first place to get something as innocuous as a silly little text box or a gag weapon
Halo 2 is a big one on this tipe of shit. The game was a half-baked mess but it had hidden stuff absolutely everywhere, not even counting the skulls. Like pic related, who on their right mind would check a particular corner of an offline multiplayer map after changing to a very specific date?

I still remember the first time I had a game that wasn't second hand.

My Father got me Age of Mythology. The Titans Expansion.

That case. That manual. That bigass poster with all the diagrams showing the age progress and improvements you had with each Major and Minor God.

It was beautiful.

Some things I loved:
>manual has detailed info. on items/characters/areas in the game

I remember going to level 2 and going to the burned down building near the police station, and driving onto the stairs and using the car-jumping code. I flew into the air so fast it reset my car. So, I went from 10 to 710 mph in about a few seconds. Upward.

Also, I have played Hit and Run so much I could answer any question you throw at me about the game. Is it bad that I still find the game enjoyable to play after playing through it 100 times over the course of 8 years?!

It's the reality of modern games. Digital downloads are more popular and convenient than ever, there's no incentive to make the case a compelling part of the value the user gets. And any information you would get from a manual can be found in a 2-second Google search.

There is fast travel sort of, you get access to these crystals throughout the name (I don't remember any terminology) that you can put down and teleport to those crystals if you used an item.

The item wasn't that cheap and your crystals are pretty limited for a very long time but it's still an option. It also leads to late game having tons of crystals and the money to afford to fast travel 24/7 so it was almost like a self-regulated reward for getting near the end game.

It gives the feeling of setting out on a quest in a high-fantasy setting. You've got a pretty varied combat system and a pretty neat multiplayer-type mechanic.

Have little messages in out-of-the-way corners you can only see if you're playing on the highest difficulty. Have 1/1000 chance things that happen if you're fucking around by yourself in an area. Have an enemy that has a funny line somewhere.

Halo 2 in particular just had a lot of ambience that you didn't notice when playing with other people, but become deafeningly present when wandering around by yourself.

There were all kinds of unofficial games. Cat and Mouse, where two guys get in Wraiths and attempt to boostram everyone else to death, Tower of Power, where everyone gets shotguns and no shields and tries to hold the tower in Ascension, a game where everyone gets onto the little Banshee pad and tries to hijack the guy with the Banshee, who does nothing but ram the pad and do barrel rolls to launch people to their death...fun times

Off the top of my head no, it's a problem I'm dealing with myself (adventure games aren't popular anymore, nor is games about exploration, finding the both is even harder).

Only thing I can think of is:
stalker - it's a FPS but it's major selling point is the atmosphere and exploration. Especially when you add mods into the mix.

Kingdom of Amular - Combat gets repetitive but it's pretty fun and I'm a sucker for fey lore.

yume nikki/.flow/2kki/etc... - Exploration is all the games have but it's very good at it.

If you find any tell me anon, I mean seriously tell me, I'm not joking.

I'm mainly focusing on recreating the multiplayer of Halo, and then a Firefight fight type mode after, before I get to any work on the single player.

But I do plan on doing a single player, though I don't want to make it an exact copy though making some mission packs that are just the Halo campaigns would be a fun project to undertake, since this is going to be a "spiritual successor" instead of a recreation Halo directly.

What are some good easter eggs to put in the multiplayer stage, such as the Lockout Ghost or the Zanzibar sign. Maybe hidden skulls or messages in far off places you can't reach normally.

I'd also up the speed/turn rate of the boat

Oh yeah the Spectre was the best wall climber ever, and that map was... *checks wiki shamelessly damn memory* Containment oh yeah remember that those god damn gates that couldn't be closed after you opened them.

I think we all tried pushing shit into the mancannons hoping it would kill someone, that is fileshare worthy.

I really want Hit and Run on PC, which it was released for, but it's impossible to find for a decent price and for some reason it isn't on steam.

>I always pushed shit into the jump pads in hopes of it landing on someone and killing them.
Did you ever succeed?

The best part was when they released the expansion disc for Halo 2, the manual was the same as the original except done from the Covenant's perspective, so every description was written differently, like shitting on human characters/weapons or referring to the enemy types by their Covenant names.

>level boundries deactivated
>fly to distant covenant cruiser
>it's really far away
>like holy shit you could fit entire open world games in the space between the intended play area for the level and the distant "city being burned by alien ship" background feature.

Bungie coulda made a shitty low quality cardboard cutout and stuck it just outside of the level boundries but they really went the extra mile to put in a big ass ship in the distance.

I think there's a similar version of that in DMC 3 or DMC 3 SE but with Jester instead of Trish

I don't have the webm but the outpost map of Unreal Tournament 4 is a science base thing on the edge of a waterfall overlooking this grassland archipelago and shows a gas giant out in the distance that the outpost appears to be on a moon of said gas giant.

With noclip you can explore the entire archipelago which is like the fucking size of all of skyrim, and I haven't seen this personally, but heard if you keep going you can go all the way out to the fucking gas giant.

Is Epic Games the new Bungie now that Bungie is nothing more than a shadow of their former selves?

All that DLC eventually ended up being free.... I really miss those times.

Also, I'm surprised these are still on youtube.

No, but getting the missile pod and jumping into it was always a fun way to score some kills.

The best feat I ever had in Halo was a time when I was playing with three bros on Sandtrap. I was in a Banshee, and someone sent a rocket my way, so I jumped out midflight, and managed to snipe a friend from across the map as I was falling and he was jumping. Queue wombo combo-esque shouting and general demotion of that friend to bitch status for the rest of the night.

I remember going afk in some maps was always treacherous. In particular the heretic gas processing plant map with the conveyor belts. You were either going to fall down a pit or get an explosive crate launched up onto you.

Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition had a Wind Waker demo on it. I never did buy WW, though,

Has any other game done something like the Insomniac Museum where they let you see and test all the things that got cut and changed in the game?

this is why San Andreas was truly the last fun GTA.

it was just this giant world that could actually host some shit like Bigfoot in the back woods, or fucking Jason Voorhees at that little cabin with the wheelchair at the end of the dock.

I spent so much time just wandering around that game chasing things that didn't exist and letting myself get scared shitless at absolutely nothing, and i loved every minute of it

I'm just sad i lost my PS2, i have it on steam but it's just not the same to me.

Well, considering how UT3 went and Gears of War Judgement went... ehh we'll just have to see how the new Tournament holds up.

Oh yeah, I try talking about UT sometimes and no one knows what I'm talking about, but I bring up Epic Games,"Oh those guys who made Gears of War?"

Makes me sad man.

According to the Halo wiki, "maniacal laughing can sometimes be heard" on that map and on The Pit in halo 3 as well, so you aren't the only one
