RS: Seige is basically if you took Counter-Strike and merge it with recent Battlefield. Since it's all multiplayer, tactics are more about making a route to the objective (and back out where applicable) and not getting your team killed. But that doesn't make it a tactical shooter at all besides the Rainbow Six getting a pre-match time to survey.

Niche games are a riskier endeavor, and there's no need to take risks when you can practically guarantee a massive ROI on a safe action FPS.

It's up to the smaller companies to cater to niches like this. No AAA company in existence would dare make a game like Pillars of Eternity, yet Obsidian gets it crowd funded in no time and it becomes the #1 top seller on Steam. The market for games like this exists, it's just not worth the risk to try and capture it. to these companies.

The most effective way to win in the video is everyone just going to different rooms. There is no room clearing and coordinated assaults. Its an arena with both sides running around lobbing grenades at each other.

I'm not shitting on it. It actually looks pretty fun. But it certainly won't scratch the SWAT 4 or Raven Shield itch at all.

They can all point, circle, draw to make up tactics. Then choose from a little arsenal their loadout.
And go.

Ground Branch is Vaporware. I've been watching it since 2008 and I doubt John will be able to get the amount of money he needs to make it the quality product that we all want. I don't think the future weapons have made it more attractive for casuals. Most people don't even know the difference and just want to play Arma 3 life/Battle Royale/Wasteland/Breaking Point because they saw their favorite youtuber/twitch streamer play it. David left because he needed a job that paid more. He's still on very good terms with the Dev team and still does Skype meetings with them as an Advisor. There's a bunch of other former Zipper staff that is working on it and will keep it true to his vision. However, this will probably be pretty low budget, so temper your expectations. The SOCOM games were 2nd party Sony games, so they received a fair budget compared to this independent project. Alpha/Beta is expected to come out within a month and they've been doing weekly updates

Movement in Rainbow Six games, especially the older ones, have been pretty fast in PvP. This actually looks slower because in the old games, you could run around everywhere with your gun up and that's what everyone did. The real tactics came in SP/Coop or private matches.

why did the genre die anyway?
i remember this game went to my hand from a few friends when i was like 12yo and everyone used to play it quite often... also, rainbow six vegas 2 was a success.
so i can't really see why did this kinda unique genre died

I played 200 hours of Arma 3 but I have to say it's shit and I feel cheated of my 50 europoors. It's painfully obvious that the game is running on an engine from 1994 ago being held together with chewing gum. The community is ass, everyone just wants to play Wasteland (DayZ for casuals) Epoch (GTA with zombies) or Altis Life (autism for autists)

The game released like 2 years ago and only NOW are we getting deployable bipods. Really. And the guns are all awful. No such thing as tactical reloads in Arma 3. Not to mention the bullshit body armour where everyone can take 3 7.62 NATOs into the face and not bat an eyelid. Developers still haven't fixed basic issues from Arma 2 like the fucking camera being able to ghost through walls and proximity based item activation. They called this farce of a game a finished product.

I put a lot of hours into Arma 3's infantry simulation side, at ~30 FPS the whole way I might add, but I wouldn't recommend this shit game to anybody

I think it's because it can't be translated to consoles well, and consoles are where the dosh is. And there's not too much creative freedom to be had with a realistic sim game. There's not that much blockbuster action when your whole squad goes down by Allah Adam shooting your shit through a thin wall.

Weapon collision with the enviroment. Basically if a weapon barrel is touching a wall, have the weapon lower. This way, people can't shoot through solid objects because the top of their head is sticking out of cover. Of course this assumes that you've programmed the game so that bullets come out of the barrel and not out of the eyes of the player like most FPS. This also helps with gun balance because short barrel weapons will have an advantage in close quarters

It's actually a pretty big dick move. Guys in the unit made that logo and showed it to the devs at Novalogic. They took it and trademarked it for themselves because the Army can't officially recognize it. And now they're just sitting on it. Is Novalogic even a business entity anymore?

I did run mods. And I played frequently on a 40 player coop server before I had enough of the framerate issues. But my issues are with the game itself. No amount of content mods can fix the shitheap that is Arma 3.

it's an engine problem, the game's engine is pretty buggy and lacks optimization and since it's proprietary and those problems were never solved by arma studio they will probably never be fixed - just wait for a new version of it, if possible done from scratch

They can indeed coexist, but it takes a lot more effort and risk. Risk is a huge factor to making these kinds of games. It's a whole lot harder to keep a wide audience interested in a niche genre like this and to keep them from being frustrated. If no one plays, all that work -- and money -- is for naught. Companies would rather sell a product they know they can make a profit on than something that could end up with them losing tons. Just look at the original System Shock. It is fantastic, very much ahead of its time, tells a great story, has a wondrous atmosphere, etc.. But despite all this, it ended up costing the company money, even after getting nothing but praise from reviews and magazines.
Shit sucks, but that's business.
