Let's talk number for a minute. Let's say a simple slash from marth deals 4% and the tip deals 6%. It would have been logical to make Lucina deals 5% with the complete sword. But no. She just deals 4% with the complete sword. And aside from that they're 100% the same. Not faster, not lighter, not anything. The same.
I wanted Lucina in this game and I was really disapointed when I saw that but this is it: Lucina is litteraly Marth without the tip. So there's no real point in using her since you can play the same character with a little luck-based bonus if you're not that good.
Aside from that and if we're talking "fun", I can understand why Lucina is played. FE:A is more popular in EU/US than any other Fire Emblem game, and Math doesn't remember anything to anyone here (except melee).

Not only that but Marth only gets good smash out of his attacks with the tip while with Lucina you get much better smash with the length of the blade. I've been recently gitting gud with Robin, so I'm not well-versed, but here's what I got out of my couple matches:

Use it as a grab you can activate in the air to come down on opponents that like to shield too much. They see you jump up and they shield expecting an aerial and that's when you Nosteratu because it ignores shield like a regular grab. Once you're trained then to stop shielding this you can jump in with Arcfire or an aerial to stop confusing them.
Also even though Arcthunder has better setups than Thoron, sometimes it pays to have Thoron charged just because you'd be surprised how much it scares your opponent. You'll seriously get in their head just by holding onto Thoron while they're at high percents. I don't think either of you are still here but maybe someone else will use this.

Lucina's chances aren't great, considering how she's pretty much been in one game and her popularity may wane some day, so she's at least assured a trophy in any new Smash games, but I'd be totally fine with her returning for the next Smash, either as a costume or full character.
In terms of making her unique, there really isn't much to do except make her like a Ganondorf-tier clone by giving her a different idle stance, different attack animations, and maybe changing one or two moves around like making her Side-B do 5 hits or making her Up-B into an Aether-like like Kirby and Ike have.
