Can we have a cyberpunk general?
Why are they so much better than steampunk games anyway?

>Why is the original concept better than author's joke about own creation and open mockery of it
Seriously, people no longer are aware Gibson created steampunk just to check if he could write a Neuromancer set in different time period?

why the fuck are those even on there? they were unabashedly shit, even dragonfall.
>>

Because faggots think steam punk is solely a visual style, where as cyberpunk is easier for people to understand what issues it deals with.

Because Victorian/Edwardian themes are "outdated" and no one understands how to properly adapt them. Cyberpunk tackles more relevant and in-date issues, and focuses on what could be rather than what could've been,

There's something about steampunk (and also doctor who) that in my opinion sucks the dignity out of life. I wish i could audibilize it better, but there it is. I feel the same way about steampunk i do about fast food. I just think its disgusting, and if we're gonna be pigs with no standards then why dont we all just kill ourselves...

>>
>>288437935
Sure.

I enjoy the cyber punk that has Japan owning America because of how much money the Japs had in the late 80s early 90s.

Cyberpunk also fit in with the 80s/90s graphics and technology at the time.

steampunk meanwhile is created and loved by I fucking love science facebook memers, college hipsters and fucking whovians from tumblr that are in it to be quirky and say madame and my good sir without feeling completely ultra gay (they still are)

That and banning it for the children will be why we never have cyborgs or war of the six cities.

Was that arnie movie running man cyberpunk? it had an electro dude and a blade dude. Food riots and shit.

It took me a while to realize that the shitstorm about the teaser wasn't about the chick herself, but about Personal Responsibility - anathema to those that got outraged.
>>
>>288443208
If people react like that to an optical aug then they will never accept bipedal robots who work alongside them and replace them. Even if in the end it makes a better life for all it won't be accepted by the majority. We will become asimov with cities that have levels that never see real light and whose people riot about robots waiting on them at a shoe store

Because steampunk's tumblr cesspool of shit nowdays and tumblr can't do anything right but bitching.
>>
>>288443612
Normies would hate technology, especially invasive private tech because it would shed a light on the shit they do. All the controversial political/ideological/religious/dogmatic views that they've been hiding, their degenerate behavior, the infidelity, hidden money/assets, the manipulation... All those lies can be purged thanks to infidelity and normies will fight to death against to prevent that.
>>
>>288443724
Because it actually has a theme and messages. Steampunk is all "style" and no subsistence. Cyberpunk is for those who want style and subsistence or even just style or subsistence.

>>288443745
I don't think anyone wants their privacy invaded, least of all "Non normies"

>>
>>288443860
NEET neckbeards don't care. They know what other people think of them. There's no point hiding their true personality. They have no social life to save because their social life is nonexistent.

Of course no one wants every single thing about them to be known like their credit card number and PIN or the size of their morning shit. That's not what I'm talking about.

Warning, warning, old men.

I like the idea of steam punk in theory, but no one really puts in the effort to actually get the ideologies that need to be there for it to actually work, and instead it just becomes hollow. At best it becomes something like steam boy, where it's really beautiful to look at, but not much to think about, at worst it's "let's glue some gears on it and call it steam punk"

I think that steampunk can have themes and messages it just depends more on how it's written. Same with biopunk. Windup Girl for example

When do you think we'll get games with fully mapped cities or even countries, sort of like GTA but detailed so much that you can go into any skyrise and go into any room and it's not all copy and pasted shit?

Surely that would take forever to make, but it's possible. Do you think we'll have games like that in 15 years?
>>
>>288444459
The only good steampunk stuff revolves around class warfare, muh bourgeois and muh proletariat.

A play with ideologies.

Honestly I think Bioshock, the first one fleshed it out pretty well.
>>
>>288443954
Asimov talks about how liberals a little in Caves of Steel. About how they want to turn the old motorways into childrens playgrounds or something and everyone else knows that the motorways are needed for emergencies or something

>Surely that would take forever to make, but it's possible. Do you think we'll have games like that in 15 years?

The issue is purely a matter of content generation.

You can automate it and introduce randomness, but it'll still be dependent upon how many factors your procedural generator can use.

Which is to say, the technology and means to do what you want exist already, and have for some time. It's purely a matter of investment; it's simply too costly for little return, and too expensive to do on consoles.
>>
>>288444632
when the genre becomes profitable and the ex hollywood movie execs realize they can make money off you .

Or you get a pixel indie game.
>>
>>288444516
Doubt it. Substance is a much shorter word, and to be misspelled more than once.

Can't people just admit to being wrong sometimes? God, this world sometimes.
>>
>>288444539
No I meant steam punk, my image was not related to the content of my post. I had hoped the fact that I spoilered the text would make it more clear that while the image was on the topic of cyberpunk, the text was intending to address the talk about steampunk.

>>288444781

Imagine a game that looked like this and you could go to anything you see and explore and investigate it
>>
>>288444632
It depends on if there were a point besides muh sandbox
I'd like to see a game take place, for example, in a museum or skyscraper, where all the detail is focused into a single facility, making every space, system and everything about it as realistic as possible, right down to company computer network and npc routines. Then drop the player in as a JC Denton-like character with different abilities and a mission to solve
One fully realized cell would be really cool
>>
>>288445101
Sadly it would take so much fucking money it's not even funny.
And on top of being able to see everything it needs amazing ai to not get boring soon
I'd be a perfect game
>>
>>288444920
I don't think it allows for as much freedom as cyberpunk.

Cyberpunk can be folded into many things, and a dystopian techno shocked society is a highly likely outcome at this point in the real world.

Steampunk is pure fantasy, and is usually used as a framing device to re explore existing ideas in a more fanciful setting.

>>288444995
everything is opinions faggot

unless you set a goal of some kind its impossible to really quantify something as good or bad

do you have an example of steampunk that doesn't explore class warfare?
