It's actually difficult to say. If Pokemon Trainer had returned, it's pretty likely he'd have Red's Origins voice and design, stamina/type effectiveness would have been removed so that you can truly main one of his team individually, and his FS would still be Mega Charizard X.
That wouldn't have been half bad, but I sometimes see trainerfags actually WANTING the stamina system to come back.

Gen's II and III lacked anything that would fit into Smash and remains iconic; IV has Lucario like him or hate him, and he's popular. V could use Zoroark, he's popular. Greninja was a great pick for VI, although he was likely chosen before the games were released and it's luck he wound up being the most popular starter.

Gen III has Blaziken, who's an extremely popular starter and a Fire/FIGHTING type. He was already heavily requested for Brawl and became relevant again for XY and ORAS.
He'll stay relevant for longer than Greninja will, and really should have been in the roster in order to represent the gens in a more balanced way and advertise ORAS.

most of the pokemon are just dull NPC creatures that serve no other purpose than to add filler to the gen,
the ones in Smash have had some relevance to them outside of the games, (TV, Movies)
The only other one i can think of would be the Genesect thats about it, i mean you have the other Legendaries like Lugia and Entei, but the wouldnt fit in as playable characters (imo, i could be wrong)
