What exactly is the problem with using more than one starter Pokemon? It's not like they're the strongest Pokemon in the game overall, and they are usually well-designed because GameFreak spends the most time on their development compared to other Pokemon. What would the difference be if they were just Pokemon you could find in the wild?
And Farfetch'd I get, but what's wrong with using Raichu?

pikachu's defenses are so absolute shit I've had battles where a STAB Surf from my 0 SpA Tentacruel or Ice Beam from Regice, or Shadow Ball from Spiritomb OHKO them. These are walls with zero damage one shotting your sweeper. It has 211 HP at 100.
Raichu is faster and at least can survive one attack. I don't like either of them but only pokemon yellowfags think Pikachu is better than Raichu.

Because starters are designed as reliable fallbacks for when you're in a pinch. Except the Gen V starters who are kind of shit and easily replaced. Starters aren't the strongest, but they're all very strong with BSTs around the 530 mark.
Since XY is easy as piss, people who use three starters with good typing, move pools, and two of which have Megas, others are gonna be ISHYGDDT and shit.

I imagine it has something to do with everybody b3ing expected to keep a starter through their game. It makes the game seem less personal. Maybe they want a unique, special snowflake team. I like some starters, though. I try to avoid using them because their type coverage tends to make my teams feel more restricted.

Depends on the starter I guess. Most are good, but stuff like Blaziken is brokenly good. Plus Talonflame is a great new pokemon from the start to finish, so dumping it for a fire starter you've probably already used before for an entire game is pretty boring. I wonder if eventually we'll reach a generation where they give you 6 starters throughout the game, and 70% of kid's teams will just be that.

If you want to do PvP then you either need to get a team of six hacked Legendaries or throw your game in the trash and go to Smogon/Pokémon Showdown.
Anyway you might have some trouble with Flying or Psychic types. Make sure your Raichu is fast.
