I'm trying to 100% Banjo-Tooie but something about it is so soul crushing, I just can never get further than Jolly Roger's Lagoon. I love Banjo-Kazooie and I can enjoy Banjo-Tooie up to that point but for some reason I get depressed and stop playing.
I tried replaying it a few months ago, could barely stay awake goin through Mayahem Mayhem (or whatever it's called).
Until you get all the teleports around the map, or find a flight pad, it's just endless walking back-n-forth. puts me to sleep.
I always preferred the first one to the second one.
>>287547032
Yeah, water levels kinda suck.
Although the hardest part to 100% isn't for a while yet. Fuck Canary Mary, somebody ought to shove that fucking clockwork mouse up her cheato-infested cloaca
The second game just generally feels way gloomier and more depressing than the first.
>>287547032
I can't play through Banjo-Tooie because I was playing it when I got the news my mom died in a car accident.
I was on witchy world and I had just beat the circus tent boss so I was pretty excited because i had been having trouble on it for a while.
When they re-released in on xbox live later I bought it to try to finish it and I got to that point again and couldn't motivate myself to play it anymore.
>>287549653
With the first game you've got a good ratio of cheery to dreary levels.
Clanker's Cavern, Mad Monster Mansion, Rusty Bucket Bay, and Bubble Gloop Swamp are dark and danky, but every other level is happy and full of life, so it's a nice equilibrium.
But in the second game the only levels that don't really have that gloomy atmosphere are Cloud Cuckooland and Jolly Roger's Lagoon. It drags the experience down a bit.
I've 100%'d both Kazooie and Tooie several times. They both have their own high and low points.
Jolly Roger's Lagoon is probably the weakest level in Tooie just because it's a giant water level.
>>287547032
I was never able to get the cheat book page that Canary Mary gives you when you win the 2nd race againts her in Cloud Cloo Cloo Land or whatever that place was called.
I have literally everything else
>>287550192
>I'm trying to 100% Banjo-Tooie but something about it is so soul crushing,
>Bottles gets murdered
>corpse just sits there for most of the game
>Family is wondering when he's coming home
>his wife left him after tooie
banjo tooie was huge (by the earle 00 standars) and empty, that why it feels depressing
>>287550324
Did you know you're meant to trail behind her for most of the race, and only try and overtake her right at the end, since her speed seems to be based off your speed
>>287550469
Yeah, Banjo-Kazooie's levels were generally smaller and the stuff you collected was more densely dispersed. Notes also helped direct you for where to go where in Tooie they're hidden like every other collectible.
>>287550563
Yes, I know that, I've tried everything, passing her in the last 5 seconds, passing her on the way down, etc etc etc.
I spent 3 hours straight trying it, even watched some youtube videos and tried to replicate them, no success. I think my N64 controller might be old now and malfunction not taking so many inputs per second or something, because I remember pulling it off when I was a little kid
Jesus christ I thought it was just me.
I'm literally up to the same point, Jolly roger/the fire and ice level, and all my motivation just drained. I find myself just wondering around aimlessly for 2 hours and not even progressing
>>287547032
I 100%ed Tooie over the summer, and Kazooie, playing both for the first time ever. I remember Tooie being more tedious because only like 6/10 Jiggies per level were actually gettable just within that level. Half of them you couldn't even get until like two or three levels later.
I loved Lagoon though because I love Rare's water stuff, same in DK64's similar level.
>>287550192
>Cloud Cuckooland
>Cuckooland
>Cuck
Banjo tooie takes a nosedive during the Dinosaur world
God, what a fucking annoying world, I really can't put my finger as to what makes it so bad but I fucking dreaded it when I played it a couple months ago.
Not even Grunty's factory was this bad.
>>287551232
>Not even Grunty's factory was this bad.
Let's not go crazy here...
>>287551232
It's fucking big and a mess to get around, easy to get lost in, the whole thing looks the damn same
>>287550563
Oh? The race only ever lasts about 8 seconds for me at which point Mary declares that you'll never catch up and so the whole race just gets abandoned.
>>287551770
That's because you're trying to go too fast. In my case she always wins at the finish line
>>287551459
I remember specifically having to change the size of Wumba's tent in order to get different sizes for your dinosaur transformation. It was a chore having to constantly play as Mumbo and then having to go back to his tent.
There was also the eggs which were a nightmare to find. Reaching the top of the mountain also was annoyingly awful because it was easy to get lost during a certain point. The food mini-mission where you had to go back to witchy world was a chore; getting the jiggies there was a nightmare.
>>287551190
Can we please stop with this?
>>287552119
I also hated bringing the dinosaur to the train, going back to the hub and using mumbo to heal her, then having to head back.
This thread has motivated me to 100% finish tooie. Except that last canary mary race, that can go dick itself.
Grunty Industries is a good level, so is also Rusty Bucket Bay. However, Terrydactyland sucks ass. It's the only bad level in both of the games.
>>287552646
Rusty Bucket ain't shit compared to Grunty Industries and Terrydactyland.
>>287552646
I personally love RBB and TD but hate GI
>>287547032
>>287548584
Tooie is a fucking amazing game, much better than Kazooie.
The thing that gets to us is just the fact it's HUGE, and we aren't getting any younger. We don't have as much patience nor time as we had when we were kids. My last run of Tooie took me 32 hours spread throughoug an entire month to finish it, granted I enjoyed every bit of it. Kazooie takes me 9 hours.
You could kind of tell with the humor in Banjo Tooie that Rare was getting tired of making Kids Platformers.
>Hating the level with this awesome music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PByIP2MLWP0
You guys don't actually do that, don't you?
>>287552961
The same kind of adult humor was present in Banjo-Kazooie too
>>287552961
Your logic is flawed because their games were all made by completely isolated teams. The Banjo team only made 3 N64 Rare games.
>>287550324
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3snOwK98sQ
>>287553161
Yeah but it was much more blatant in Tooie. To the point that one wonders how it got an E rating.
>>287552792
TD feels too empty, and the cave entrances/exists aren't well marked. GI is good at labelling its entrances/exists and the collectibles are much denser than in TD.
Say goodbye to your fingers doing this, fella.
>>287553423
Why do people sprout this meme? It's bullshit.
What are your fastest runs, bros?
My fastest 100% Banjo Kazooie run is 6 hours 5 minutes. Not great, but much MUCH better than my run back when I was 8...
>>287547032
Sounds like supressed emotions/memories to me
>>287552646
>>287552925
The anchor and propellers annoyed the shit out of me, as I can never find the entrance to the hull if the anchor isn't there
>Banjo was supposed to make a cameo in Donkey Kong 64 and Donkey Kong was supposed to Cameo in Banjo Tooie
>Conker, Banjo and Diddy were in Diddy Kong Racing.
I wonder if the Rare platformers shared a universe.
>>287553334
The humor wasn't the only thing that gets one wondering how BT achieved a E rating. There's literally blood and a boss named Lord Woo Fak Fak
>>287553879
Fuck Fak Fak. Fuck underwater aiming.
>>287554598
Conker's not a collectathon and doesn't suffer from the same problems.
Donkey Kong 64 had way too many things to collect. To the point where it was overwhelming.
>>287554902
Another thing it suffers from is bullshit difficulty.
>>287555382
That's gruntilda
>>287555698
That's Gregg. You should probably stop now because I'm actually really good at this.
Jet Force Gemini is the best Rare game.
>>287555093
But it's not even hard... I'm a complete casual too, what do you have trouble with?
I finished 100%ing BT 3 days ago, took me 29 hours of total gameplay. The only cheat I used was a turbo command for the last Cheato Page from Canary Mary, same story as >>287550848.
I understand how you feel about Jolly Roger's Lagoon, but hey, it's a pretty light level once you learn how to swim with C^ view always active and fast swimming. I recommend you try it.
Also use the submarine to kill Woo Fak Fak.
>>287559541
The Submarine is allowed in the Woo Fak Fak battle? That would make things a lot quicker, since it can shoot faster and I tend to run out of grenades during the battle
>>287555382
Why did she have to stop rhyming in Tooie? That was the best thing about her.
What was the best part in the BK series and why was itGrunty's Furnace Fun
>>287561704
You've got General Mole ryming instead in this game, anon. Those rhymes were very cringe-worthy most of the time, though.
It'd be cool if she resumed to rhyming after her sisters die.
>>287563812
BT's quiz section seemed kinda forced, especially during the Hag 1 battle
/v/, are Banjo and Kazooie a couple?
English is not my mother language, so it'd be way later when I'd find about Kazooie being female.
I still can't quite wrap my head around it naturally.
jolly roger's lagoon kind of sucks, most of 3D platformers swimming levels suck
