I just finished BG with a level 7 figher. From what I see, BG2's starting level is 7, and I can import my character. If I play the expansion for BG, will I gain too much xp, and ruin the begining of BG2 because I'll be too high level?

Secondly, it depends highly on the party composition. Since you are (I assume pure) fighter, a couple of levels won't make or break it, it's AD&D afterall.

Original plays just fine, and supports all the mods if you are into that. At the same time, EE isn't BETRAYAL by any means, just a lazy cashgrab. If you prefer the new UI or companions, sure, go for it.
BG expansion gives you 1-2 more levels worth of xp. As a warrior you'll be level 8 at the end. BG2 expects you to be around there at the beginning.

Enhanced Edition is worth it just for the enhanced clear text of the UI. Shit normally gets stretched out in 16:9. The extra content is a bonus.

Baldur's Gate was a AAA series put out by a publisher (Interplay). Opposite of indie.
I'm playing through BG2 EE right now after having finished BGEE.
The Sword Coast isn't an expansion that adds a new campaign. it just adds content to the base game. You've likely already did some of its content.
Your other characters don't get transferred and neither do your items so even if you're a higher level it doesn't matter.

If anyone is gonna play BG for the first time through EE, make sure not to use the new characters in BG2EE.
I only recently found out they're making a new Baldur's Gate set between 1 and 2.

Not really, you get so much experience anyways.
Granted I played with Baldur's Gate Trilogy and Stratagems on my current playthrough, but I had something like 240k experience by the time I wacked Sarevok. Granted I did EVERYTHING in BG1, but that is 80k over the cap.
Stratagems make the game significantly harder so didn't bother me much.
Also remember you get such a crapton of experience in BG2 compared to 1 that 80k or 160k really doesn't make a big difference when you get 8-20k a quest and with ToB the cap is at 8 million.
With vanilla install doing everything in chapter 2 can make the game a bit of a cakewalk, but still depends a lot of party composition ect.
On a different note, gonna run with my PC Blade, Jaheira, Minsc, Imoen and Viconia. Was gonna leave the last spot open for rotating members to do all the NPC quests, but unsure who I'd bring for the last spot.
In ToB it will no doubt be my naughty brother, but up to that point I'm not sure. Keldorn would be the obvious choice, but he hates Viconia with a passion so was thinking Valygar or Mazzy. Never really used either of them before.

Its highly recommended to use original cast instead. The only decent one in EE2 is probably Rasaad, but he was much better in EE1.

Its only a a single level difference at most.
The biggest thing that screws over balance in BG2 is if you decide to do every quest in Chapter 2 or just go straight to Chapter 3.
Been a long time since I played BG2, but last time It was without mods like Stratagems and I did everything and was around level 13-14 when I went to Spellhold compared to 9-10ish if you get enough cash and go straight there.
Kinda makes a huge difference when you're a Inquisitor and got all the best gear possible.
With Stratagems its not such much of a problem with the difficulty curve. Enemies scale better and the AI makes most fight a challenge if you don't do it right.
