i dont, because why would i? monster hunter demands a lot of time, unless you rush off to g rank and ignore mh teams hard work. im only hr3 yet im 50 hours in. taking my sweet time. playing another monster hunter on the side would leave me with no life to live. besides the minute differences would fuck you over. getting used to the hit boxes of one game, then playing another which will have different hit boxes

Hi, I'm new to the series and only casually play this between my other hobbies, I assume 80 hours at hr7 is crap right?
Anyway, how many more hr's until I hit the g ranks or are they something else?
And I'm a hammer user, tell me, should I be more concerned by the hammer's rare rating or the outright damage output, using an rare5 hammer that does 1000+ damage, honestly forgot the name but aiming for a high rating poison hammer, in its current state its 884 damage but the next one just needs a shitload of cash I currently lack right now.
And finally, WHEN should armor be updated, using gravious...U i think armor (stuff from black gravios) and i buffed it up with armor spheres so now it needs I THINK mega armor sphere's or some shit now, can I keep using this (considering the fact most battles now don't have me fighting water based monsters now) or should I just farm a badass monster at every hr rank jump?
Yes I check the wiki but I don't see any recommendations for when to update, I mostly focus on hammer updates and that's when possible money wise.
Also 3ds is charging in peace so that's why my info is sketchy as fuck, feel free to ignore.

what the hell does rareness matter man come on. slow weapons do better with raw damage. special attacks like poison or whatever are better for quick weapons like dual blades. and some, SOME armors can be upgraded to match g rank stuff. i dont know which though. and what the hell does you not fighting water monsters have to do with no longer using that armor. gravios is weak to water. were you using that armor as water defense or something?

Rareness is a negligible aspect of the weapon
More Damage = Better
what I find myself doing is updating Armor for every level.
For example
1 Armor set for Low Rank
Immediately ditch Low Rank armor and farm High Rank armor
When reaching G rank same thing.
After you get your base G rank armor, climb the ranks into at least G3, then the min max way to go about things is to find an armor combination (not necessarily a whole set) that'll get you the skills you want.
Weapons should be upgraded every time it is possible.

Like it matters, considering you can't even read it's tells half the time the first couple of attempts because he's just so damn big. You can't disregard the tail either, that thing has a HUGE radius and the only way to dodge it is if you were at a decent enough spot to read the tell or roll under him, which sometimes you just can't do if you're in mid-swing. Also, be aware this is my first encounter with such a large monster, so obviously it'll take me some tries to get used to him and fully know his moveset.

Games like borderlands have taught me that rareness usually means its special properties can make up for lack of sheer damage, but that's irrelevant.
And thankfully not, what I need is a mostly one stop shop, considering the armor is ONLY weak to water, and most of my fights don't worry about that element too much (got a...that shark thing's armor as a backup, though much weaker because its stock) I thought I might as well stick with it for a bit.
That makes sense, seeing how hammers hit less often meaning less chances to inflict a status unless I do the charge spin which I don't always hit off...

Ok so damage is the point, and find and worry about a decent set for each tier rank rather than keep switching, right?
And I take it I should (once into g) mix my sets for balance, though I miss out on the bonuses...
But I could have multiple (later on) and just switch, I swear that item set option is amazing, being able to just switch EVERYTHING out rather than one by one.

Newfreind to MH here. I rolled a second character with the HBG, but I feel like the damage is less than satisfactory. What HBG would you recommend I start building in prep for G-Rank. Atm I am using the Nesc one.
Do prime ingredients actually do anything? I've used them a couple of times and they don't seem to be any better than fresh ingredients.
Do people still hate the charge blade? I've been using it recently and it's actually pretty enjoyable weapon to use. Or is the issue with new players, they don't realize you can use it's burst mode for dat extra damage?

You mix sets to get skills.
like for example
a hat has +4 attack
a torso from the same set has +6 attack
having the set would give you the +10 attack skill.
But if you mix and match for example
Hat has +4 attack
Torso has +6 defense
then gem up +6 Attack and +4 defense to get both +10 attack and defense.
Like try to find the combination that'll give you the most useful skills.
Also when looking at damage, remember that sharpness levels are a multiplier.
So it can happen that although a weapon may be dealing huge raw damage, but it's sharpness is at the yellow, it's doing around 0.75 its listed damage.
as opposed to a weapon with not so great raw damage but has blue sharpness will do around 1.5 times its listed damage.
This is only an example, the exact numbers for the multipliers I actually do not know but you get the idea.

I went for the Wracking Grismase line (currently at Striped Striker) with the gore/ceadeus armor for +1 sharpness. One of the highest raw and white sharpness (plus slime with awaken) Also, don't use the spinning attack, prioritize golf swing and super pound

Golf swing > super pound > first X pound in terms of damage. Spinning attack does little damage and has a lot of recovery frames, although you can end with a golf swing between the 4th and 6th spin.

Edgemaster, which gives Honed blade skill, grants sharpness +1 and attack up large
Both have only 1 tier, at 10. You have to reach that number between all the armor pieces and it activates.
Low rank [helm/torso/gloves/waist/boots] Ceadeus/Gore/Ceadeus/Gore/Tetsucabra (or anything with Torso Up on boots) grants Handicraft and +7 Sharpener, which you can get to +10 with 3 gems (armor set has exactly 3 slots)

The way skills work in MH is that you get a certain skill bonus from a piece of equipment like for example
Hat with +4 Attack
the attack bonus does not activate until it hits 10
so wearing a hat with attack +4 does nothing
Wearing a hat with attack + 4 and 2 gems each with +3 attack will have a total of +10 attack which activates "Attack (S)" buff.
Usually in a set these numbers add up enough to activate a skill but in G rank you want to put fragments to activate as many skills as you can and fill in the gaps with gems.
