I've always imagined that the first people to leave earth to form colonies would be religious sects like the people aboard the Mayflower.

I for see Mormon colonies and maybe a few colonies created by various sects of Islam like the Kurds.

Infact, the next improvements in space travel will be made by private companies with the intent of mining asteroids, it was already proven alot of them are full of precious minerals.

For now the governaments aren't interested in exploring space, and if you are wondering why nasa went to the moon to begin with it's because it was a huge dick contest between super powers "look guys we can send missiles in space and land on the moon, you aren't safe from our nuclear devices".

Oh you mean the colonization that the european empires rushed for resources while they were waging war with each other and that massacrated the native civilizations of the "new world"?

They didn't go there because they wanted to explore, they were sent by the european kings to expand their territory, gain new resources and thus gain the upper hand over the others, they killed and were ready to kill even more for those.

Curiosity Self-Portrait at 'Mojave' Site on Mount Sharp

>This self-portrait of NASA's Curiosity Mars rover shows the vehicle at the "Mojave" site, where its drill collected the mission's second taste of Mount Sharp.

>The scene combines dozens of images taken during January 2015 by the Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) camera at the end of the rover's robotic arm. The pale "Pahrump Hills" outcrop surrounds the rover, and the upper portion of Mount Sharp is visible on the horizon. Darker ground at upper right and lower left holds ripples of wind-blown sand and dust.

Everything about earth, the moon, earths orbit, the moon's pull on the earth, the moon reflecting sunlight at night, earths axis and rotation, our distance from our sun and the output of energy from our sun; all of that combined is what makes life possible on earth.

it's a long and specific recipe, especially since Earth and The Moon used to be one planetary body in the solar system billions of years ago until it smashed into another planet that used to exist.

maybe theres other ways to get life, but we certainly havent found it.

Nope. Not unless your definition of "soon" includes the next century or so.

Space stations are way off because the effect of microgravity on the human body is utterly catastrophic, and we simply can't survive out there for long.

Planetary colonization is way off because, guess what: Other planets are uninhabitable by human standards. The amount of work we would have to do to set up even a temporary settlement on any other planet would be completely infeasible, let alone a permanent colony.

samefag here.

The second book in the 'main' trilogy primarily covers one group chasing another group/person to a different system while both groups use intertial dampeners to increase acceleration and it captures the effects that this has on the ship, crews, etc.

I never thought a book like this would become one of my favorite singular books of all time. In the universe, it's suggested that past civilizations had developed FTL travel but wiped themselves out of existence doing so.

The only effective warship design is a missile carrier and that's boring as fuck.

Pretty sure it hit the alien reactor or some shit. I haven't seen the move in a while.

I love the gold plated Amarr dildos, no sarcasm. Stylized but still seem feasible.

I love the Covenant ship designs, they look like birds of prey. Like alien fish-reptile hunters. You see the battlecruisers soaring like sharks on the hunt, their stingrays and their lampreys latching on and engaging.

I love these semi-organic designs in shape that aren't inherently organic themselves.

FTL comms have always seemed only possible to me with FTL travel, and that ships would have to be messengers.
>>
>>286046620
Warp drives would be a form of FTL travel.
