Used to play Quake. Was in a clan and everything for 10+ years. Went to Quakecon and such. Never won - just didn't care to play it as much as it required to be obscenely good.
I prefer Battlefield 4 these days. Mostly because I still get the same shitty ping on Quake 3 servers that I got 10 years ago (around 100-130). Seems like they only run east or west coast servers. Maybe something in Chicago or whatever, but never in the Midwest.

I've got Reflex, but for some reason I can't really get the movement system completely down. I'm fine with Quakeworld movement (never did CPMA), but I just can't get it to work on Reflex. Any tips?

I'm not much of a fan, but I like the old, labyrinth style games like Doom, Blood, Duke, etc. The only linear FPS that I've enjoyed all the way through is HL1.

I'm an fps dabbler. The only preference I have as far as fps goes is that I only like single player, not a fan of online multiplayer. I did enjoy multiplayer Goldeneye and Halo with my brothers and friends back in the day but there's really not much of an opportunity for that sort of thing anymore.

I started playing ut99 and unreal + expansions. While my skill in fps has dropped, I enjoy pretty pleb stuff; bf4, titanfall, BLR, etc. I still play UT from time to time when I can though.
the reason why I'll never touch a 90's shooter again is because nobody fucking plays them. So it becomes almost impossible to increase your skill if you're being wiped on the floor with the few turbonerd veterans that still populate the servers.
And that is why quake and UT will remain dead
