SteamOS has no purpose at all besides being an instant OS that needs no configuration. You'd be better off installing Windows or if you choose to use Linux, installing Debian and just putting Steam on it.
SteamOS is literally a preconfigured Debian that is meant only to play games, you can't do anything else with it unless you force close Steam and go to the heavily gimped and lacking operating system behind it.

I'll never get why consolebabbies always compare the price of a FULL PC with a console.
Only the difference between an average PC they ALL already own anyway to browse the web (post in here), watch porn etc. and a "gaming PC" should be considered.
Typically only the GPU, adding some ram and overclocking the CPU (even a fucking i3) is enough to turn a low-end PC into a decent gaming machine that will easily outclass all consoles out there.
Maybe replace the PSU too if you have one of these shitty 350W piece of shit.
