Fuck off, you beat it with a guide.

i have never played it. /v/ is comparing it to motherufcking SoN and super metroid, but i have yet to hear any actual opinions why the game is supposed to be that great.

SUDDENLY I WANTED TO HEAR THIS SONG AGAIN AND NOW I CAN'T FUCKIGN STOP LISTENITNG TO OH

OH FUCK IT'S SO GOOD

OOOH YES

FCUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YES MY EARS ARE SO GOOOD

also about the game, you can fuck it with a rake. I'm still super salty about all of it.

All of it.

Fuck hell -- fuck getting to hell -- fuck that room you have to redo three times -- fuck the giant fists -- fuck it all

Fuck all of it.
>>
There was this one room with a weapon and you had to a puzzle right to get it. Every other room in the game so far would reset if you did a puzzle incorrectly but this room didn't. That just pissed me off and I uninstalled the game right then.
>>
>>285720225
I don't remember anything like that. What are you talking about?

There's things way more bullshit than that.

>>
16.99 is too much for a meme game

I'd buy it and beat it if it went on sale for at least 75% off though, preferably more
>>
I like it but some puzzles seem to be borderline nonsense just for the sake of it. Currently exploring the chamber of birth.
Also, some guys rightfully said it's more similar to myst then a metroidvania.
>>
>>285719745
yeah no shit, what are you trying to imply? that you can beat it without ever consulting a gude? The closest I've ever even heard about was some guy only consulting it three times total (twice at the very, very end) and he spent an unREAL number of hours. Like over 100 or some stupid fucking amount.
>>
>>285719745
>needing a guide

there is a clue for pretty much everything. git gud
>>
>>285720361

It's the room with the chain whip.
>>
Because the puzzles were too hard. I spent about 8 hours on the game and most of that was wandering backwards and forwards trying to figure out what the fuck to do.

Shame, if the puzzles were a tiny bit more obvious I'd have probably carried on.

I think he means either of the whip upgrades. If you fuck those up, you have to reload. It even tells you in a tablet that you've only got 1 shot at it though. Neither of them are necessary for beating the game, though.

>>
What's the issue with the puzzles? Are there not enough clues for how to solve them? Or do they just not make sense logically? Been thinking about getting this for the vita.
>>
>>285719497
I stopped because it ultimately is a "guide game", like many older games of the era it was mimicking.

It was satisfying to beat things on my own, but it became so cryptic later into the game, that the fun was sucked out. I want to go back to it eventually, but I also know that I'll have to look into guides again or be lost as to what to do at that point.

>>285719765
Eh, it just wasn't that great by the time I got to it. I respect what it did for gaming, much in the same way Metroid for the NES did, but I also accept both those games are pretty dated.

I'm still a faggot for not being able to get into DESU EX: High Resolution, though.
>>
Because as much as I loved that game, it takes too much patience (read: autism) to make progress after the first half of the game. Using a guide sucks the fun out of it.
>>
Didn't care for it. Had no idea where to go and it just made me want to play Spelunky.

>>
>>285723161
There are clues but the map is gigantic and many of the puzzles have clues no where near them and sometimes it's not obvious where you have to go next. Like am I stuck on this puzzle because I haven't figured it out, or am I missing a key item? Sometimes just finding the puzzles is a huge challenge.

I'd say the game is worth getting, because the first half of the game, while still difficult, is easy enough to solve everything on your own.

Working on it, OP. Beating it without a guide on hard mode, the chamber of birth took a fucking eternity to figure out. Currently about 80 hours in.

Looked up some things when I got stuck on my first run and decided to restart and play it through with some help from guides. Still have my first savefile though, with +40h playtime, hardmode accidentally activated and no holy grail.

Will try 2 without guides but if I get completely stuck which will probably happen, I won't hesitate.

I beat it, but I used a guide for some parts so I've got no right to look down on people who haven't finished it yet.

I'd say it was a 50/50 mix when using a guide of me going "Oh. That's dumb." and "Aw, I probably could have figured that out if I had tried harder."

You need to see all the hints as one big hint sometimes. Write them all down fagass.

You can lock yourself out of things, it doesn't lock you out of progress. The game tells you that is going to be obtuse and hard on purpose,

not really, you just had to mash the jump button when going to the opposite screen and you could control your jump easily.

I'm not that big a fan of SotN or SM to be honest.

I think that the real strength of La-Mulana is that it so effectively provides a challenge to the mind and the body, in that the gameplay requires reasonable dexterity but the puzzles and riddles truly require a clever approach. On top of all that, it's got it all. Great visuals, a catchy soundtrack, plenty of collectables, and tight gameplay. It's just a really solid platformer with tons of exploration and puzzle-solving, and it's a legitimate challenge, even if the end-of-game stuff gets really ridiculous.

It just kinda clicked. The function of the three switches in the whip room seemed kinda obvious, and the message about messing up just once was fresh in my head.

I can understand why you would be upset that you got locked out of an upgrade. I know for the Jewel whip, I reloaded several times, although if I had messed up once and then saved the game I would have been kinda pissed. Either way though, understand that not having the whip upgrade is kind of a minor roadbump in the overall game, if it's honestly the reason you quit I'd recommend trying it again. Those irreversible things are really only present for the two whip upgrades (and hard mode).

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be mean about it.

It's just... pull out a calculator. Fuck, throw the numbers together randomly until you wind up with an even split. It's just that the tricky, obtuse part of that puzzle is the "learn and use your own weight" part, not the "do a bit of math" part.
>>
What's the halfway point?
>>
>>285750069
just completing the game?
i would say after 5 guardians
for 100%, i would have to say 6 guardians.
>>
>>285749569
I know what all the gem's weights are. But not Lemeza's. So I kind of estimated his weight up to a round number. And well... I can't remember exactly how the numbers came out, because it's been like 6 months since I touched the game. But basically, I just don't have the energy to figure it out after so many tries. It's asking for too much, and I lost the patience.
I already spent most of my patience getting lost by other "puzzles". The word "puzzles" being used in the loosest sense.

Oh, is that it? You were going about it the wrong way. I thought you had all the weights you needed, but Lemeza does in fact have an EXACT weight that can be found in-game. I thought you had found that weight and couldn't solve it, but it seems like you were just using an incorrect estimate.

If you're really burnt on it then fine, but I would recommend giving it another visit. One of my favorite Metroidvania's hands down. And that particular puzzle is 100% optional if you wanted to try something else.

Once you beat Viy in Inferno Cavern, the two-headed statue in Temple of the Sun breaks open, revealing a Talisman and a room full of tablets, which tell you where the wedges are.

I've also done shit all backwards I guess, so whenever I tried to watch a guide, they would be way farther back than me, but have items I don't have or some shit, and I really don't feel like watching a whole playthrough to know what I need to do.

What I have played so far is fun, though. I picked the game up a while back on steam because it was $1.25 or something like that. I hadn't ever heard of the game before, so I looked at it and thought it looked fun.
