I love SNK. I'm a big fan of KoF, Samsho, and Last Blade. I just wish they knew how to do competent netcoding. IMO they will always be niche games in the US, but the netcoding is what truly prevents them from having any real online following.
KoFXII was easily some of the worst netcoding I had ever seen in a game before. Trying to do clan battles turned it literally into a slideshow. A three minute match could last half an hour.
They improved a bit with XIII, but still have a ways to go. The lack of lobbies and decent netcoding just really suck.
I know a lot of people are upset that the next fighter from them will probably be in 3D, but honestly I never really thought of SNK for their sprites. They're sprites are fun, but extremely dated for the time. KoFXII and XIII are beautiful, but even I can tell they're inefficient and KoF lacks the raving tumblr drones to pay them to make characters like with Skullgirls.
Plus SNK characters often times have different moves and designs from game to game. It makes way more sense to just use 3D models. If they could do Xrd-like visuals and start pumping out games often again that'd be the best case scenario. I really want to see them make a new samuria game.
