>VR demo

He later posted an update.
http://www.stuff.tv/htc/vive/review

>It was definitely a Portal experience, but perhaps it was nothing more than a tech demo. I find that a little hard to believe, though. This wasn't just a technical showcase with beautiful graphics - it had the hilarious, high-end script and acting of a finished article. If it was just a tech showcase, it's the most polished one I've ever seen, but I'm standing by my guess that this is the opening of Portal 3, and that the full game will finally get an announcement very soon.

It'd be weird to have a fully scripted tech demo just for a VR demo, wouldn't it? Every other VR demo is just an environment to interact with.

Because at the risk of sounding stupid, you have to help unimaginative people visualize new conceptual spaces. You can't just give a caveman a smartphone, you have to demonstrate all the shit that it can do. When most people concern themselves with VR, they think about walking around in a 3D environment and thats it. The fleshed out tech demo helped people come to understand the potential of VR simulating better than if they were just given a blank room or a generic setting.

Out of all the articles and tweets talking about the Vive demo set in portal, this is actually the most accurate one.

A VR demo, set in portal. No speculation or straight out assumption that it IS in fact portal 3, but only the facts + "It's incredible".

I've already seen two articles and a video saying that it was portal 3 in the demo and now we have threads talking about PORTAL 3 CONFIRMED. What is happening to the world?
>>
>>285592443
Then what is it?
>>
>>285598126
Is a Tech Demo set in Aperture Science with maybe old code from F-STOP. If possible it opens the doors for a Portal 3 or a Portal VR expiernce.

>>
>It's incredible.

Sure it is Keighley. Sure it is.
>>
>>285599417
F-stop is a game mechanic that uses the First Person View as a controller. Your view angle decides what part of the story you want to interact; you can use the NPCs around you to open doors and help you to solve puzzles. Think of Portal 2 Co-op but with Bots.

Seriously, why do people still cling to HL3? Was Duke Nuken failure not enough to see that no one will live up to the hype? Valve doesn't even produce games anymore, they just take a copy of a already existing game and make their own version, do you remember how long ago was the release of TF2? Or how long it goes between updates? They have no reason to ever release this game since they are already making money with their store, the most they can do is tease so retards are attracted to steam

HL2 only got critically acclaimed because of the graphics and physics. The gameplay was worse than in HL1 and the story is so incredibly bland that it simply doesn't warrant a sequel.

Valve should just make an original shooter, not another rehash.

For those wondering, F-Stop was a function in which the player would effectively phase through to different "dimensions" but within the same room, with altered physics or time etc. Some elements of the puzzles would react completely differently, some walls might not be there or might be gates or suchlike.
>>
I hope Portal 3 isn't a thing. Portal 2's ending was fine. There's no reason to make a sequel, at least this soon. L4D is the only one I could see (besides HL) that would benefit from another game right now. CS:GO and TF2 are still making money (and Dota 2) and Portal 2 is Valve's newest single player game and had a decent ending by itself. L4D has room for new mechanics, like better AI, better destruction, etc and Half Life is Half Life.
>>
>>285602202
There are many more (justified) reasons for hl2's praise. The tech innovations actually add to the gameplay(gravity gun), pretty much helped shape our ideas of pacing in a linear shooter. the characters are all well-written, well-acted and animated in ways that don't have that esoteric video game cringeyness(breencasts are the single best written pieces of dialogue I've ever heard in a game). The story itself is relatively well put together and set up, with the seeds for hl2's conflict being placed far back in hl1. A chunk of the weapons are satisfying to use and there's a pretty big variance in the types of combat the character engages in(fast melee oriented enemies, large set piece enemies that can only be killed with explosives, regular infantry and plenty of environmental concerns like hopper mines and sentry turrets that help reinforce the physics concepts in the game as that's the only approach that can be taken against them). The art director is the same as the Dishonored one, meaning to say the art direction is pretty fantastic and unique. Enemy design is consistent and always justified by the game's worldbuilding.
It definitely deserves a sequel, and you've never played the game.
>>
>>285603762
>the characters are all well-written

>>
>>285603570
That sounds like too complex for the casual Portal audience. I love it!
>>
>>285603935
You're an idiot. I'm talking more about their dialogue, which is undeniably above the quality of other titles especially at the time. I wouldn't really refer to the characters themselves(other than breen) as being well-written.

Basically it doesn't pain me to sit through character dialogue because it's not absolute garbage like in most other games
