i have never (for some odd reason) have never really gotten into jrpg's but i dont think that ive ever given them a fair chance so what is a good one for me to try to try and get into it? i already own the final fantasy X-X2 remake so would that be a good start?
>>285475774
FF: Mystic Quest is actually made to be babby's first RPG.
>>285475774
this one is alright
I'd recommend the earthbound games. They're not the best jpgs but they're free of anime weeb shit and don't have a boring who-gives-a-shit medieval thing going on. A good place to start.
Paper Mario 64, bitch
>>285476261
yeah but i herd it was shit..... even if it is made as a babys first jrpg i would go quality over acsessiblity
>>285477029
40 minutes until first battle puts off most people. Also the voice acting.Replaying it I still only think that Mullen's voice actor is bad
>>285477029
2 was the only good grandia
Chrono Trigger
That game was so ahead of time that I remember playing it in 1999 and still being blown away at its multiple time eras and real-map battles.
>>285475774
You want a babby's first JRPG?
Xenoblade Chronicles.
>>285477227
Mystic quest is great, fuck you.
The only 'easy' thing about it is the fact you can retry if you fail a battle and that you can overflow the final boss' health. Also the fight before the final boss is harder anyway.
Megaten is my favorite series
>>285475774
Xenoblade Chronicles has some western influence. It might be a good place to start and its also a very good game.
Any DQ remake, all Mario RPG are pretty much baby's first RPG and shit
play radiata stories
>>285477676
>its also a very good game
come on anon don't lie to him its an ok f2p mmo
>>285477508
i would if the one for the wii wasent so damn hard to find without spending over 70 dollars
Suikoden 2 is the best jrpg ever made and nothing will top it. So probably not a good idea to start there since your expectations will be unrealistic.
>>285477874
go emulate there saved you $70
Nier, or Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
RPGs should be about a good story, and strong role-playing elements (choice/consequence/freedom in game world). NOT about autistic out-dated battle systems, which require you to repeat the same fights with the same enemies 100 times, or random battles which is nothing but game padding.
Just play DQ and forgot about all the failed series that tried to imitate it
>>285477874
Why haven't you softmodded your Wii already?
You can also emulate.
And if you have a modded PS2, definitely play Radiata Stories. >>285477818
>>285477975
wii emulators are either bad, or unresponsive and thats if i can find a rom file as well as getting all of the things i need to run it like a controller and sensor bar
>>285475774
Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Breath of Fire, something clasic.
>>285475774
Is there a Ni no Kuni English patch for DS?
I'm dying to play it and I don't have a ps3
>>285478137
maybe if your computer is shit i had no problems playing anything on dolphin and chronicles can be played using a ps3 controller just fine
>>285478323
yes all apparently good series but which ones?
>>285478137
Played it on PC using a keyboard.
mega:#F!twk2hZAL!nDyMhleKJ6PnJF_-ipJx5g
Iso is dual audio.
>>285478351
One was started but nowhere near complete. Ni no Kuni has loads of text due to the book.
>>285475774
Ni No Kuni has so much shit going on, I don't have the time to sit down & play it.
Bravely Default is pissing me off at the moment, if only because I've played so few JRPGs that some of the mechanics are a bit confusing at first. But I like it otherwise.
>>285477986
ironic because DQ is an Ultima imitation but I agree, very good series
>>285478480
Breath of Fire: III and IV
Final Fantasy: Anything between I and IX
Dragon Quest: IV, V, VI, VII, VIII
>>285478770
FF10 has the best turn based battle system though.
It really depends on what kind of experience OP wants from his first RPG. Does he want a grindfest? A cinematic experience with great plot and visuals? or a cinematic experience with great "plot and visuals"?
>>285475774
Start with some SNES RPGs. FFIV, FFVI, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Secret of Evermore.
>>285478612
Is the game as amazing as it looks. The music I've heard and the imagery makes it feel like a straight up awesome older ghibli movie
>>285479370
It looks amazing but the combat is a mess.Yay pee pee time!
>>285479260
OP: i would perfer a great and gripping story plus good characters
>>285479370
The music and imagery are indeed top-notch in Ni no Kuni.
The story is basic (aimed at children really), and the gameplay a bit repetitive. Worth playing, but only if you're a Ghibli fan imo. Doesn't have the depth of the early Ghibli stories such as nausicaa or Princess Mononoke unfortunately, more akin to Ponyo.
>>285479295
I agree, especially Chrono Trigger or FF IV.
Legend of Dragoon.
The game was so massive at its time that it required 4 cds to fit the entire game.
It's a shame it was released under the shadow of Final Fantasy, as I think it was a much better game. The graphics may be off-putting and there is no HD remaster, but once you get into it you won't be backing away from the monitor any time soon.
>>285479615
>a great and gripping story plus good characters
Suikoden 2
Terranigma
>>285479260
>FF10 has the best turn based battle system though
Wtf am I reading? Do you enjoy running through an area, only to be stopped every ten paces to repeat the same unavoidable battles over, and over, and over? I really can't see how this is fun.
Sure, you can see the order of your attacks and switch party members. But the tactics hardly vary for most fights, there's so much padding it's unreal.
>>285479615
somebody else here said NieR. That game does have a very good story with awesome characters. The music is gorgeous too. Unfortunately the gameplay is terrible.
If you want a little more J in your rpg though I would recommend Tales of the Abyss. Very long game, great characters, very above average story for a tales game, good OST, bitchin opening song. One of my favs.
>>285479760
I might be one of the few who did not like dragoon much. Combat was great but the story was very boring and the voice acting flat out ruined some of the cutscenes.
That final boss fight was something else though. Actually deserving of the word epic.
>>285475774
Traditional turn based:
>Final Fantasy (I would suggest V, VI, VII, IX and X)
>Suikoden II
>Xenogears
>Xenoblade
>Trails in the Sky FC (SC coming soon)
>Atelier series
Action RPG
>Brave Fencer Musashi
>Ys series (Start with Oath in Felghana>Ark of naphistim>Origin>Seven>Optional Celceta then look into Ys I and II)
Hybrid
>Tales of Series (recommended are Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, Eternia and Hearts R if you have a Vita)
>>285479917
>Do you enjoy running through an area, only to be stopped every ten paces to repeat the same unavoidable battles over, and over, and over? I really can't see how this is fun.
have you played any JRPG? what the fuck kind of complaint is that
>>285480510
It's a valid complaint, because no other FF other than FF13 is like that. Extremely linear.
>>285480354
To add
Traditional turn based
>Valkyrie Profile 1. 2 is kind of hit or miss
>Persona 3 and 4
>SMT series. I would suggest DDS1 and 2, Nocturne and IV
>Breath of Fire 4. 3 is alright but dated as fuck
>>285479705
>more akin to Ponyo
Ouch.
>>285480510
I enjoyed Folklore, Nier, Valkyria Chronicles, Okami, you know, games with actual gameplay as opposed to repetitive menu-simulators.
>>285480728
why are you in a jrpg thread then? just to shitpost?
>>285480595
whos talking about ff13
Pokemon Yellow
I still think BoFV was an amazing game.
But to each their own. I recommend it.
are there anygoodjrpg that are completely voiced?
>>285481114
>completely voiced
Not that I can think of
Partially then DQ8
>>285480868
I'm pointing out the similarity between FF10 and FF13.
>>285481053
>I still think BoFV was an amazing game.
and yet it's the most hated BoF for all the right reasons
>>285481114
DragonQuest 8, a good dub but not fully voiced.
No JRPGs rely completely on VA alone.
>>285477550
Megaten is a difficult series for the uninitiated
but we are initiated. aren't we, anon?
>>285481114
kiseki evolution
>>285481315
I can see why. It was just too much of a departure for the series.
But inside was a heartfelt story and some truly original things never seen before in a jrpg.
It's a shame that we won't see the series come back the way it deserves to.
>>285478490
Isn't the game normally dual audio? A simple google search seems to say so.
>>285481114
Every single line in the main story is voiced at the very least.
Play most ps1 jrpg games and Grandia1, Illusion of Gaia and Dragon quest
>this thread is better than the /vg/ general
hory shieeet
>>285480354
>>Xenoblade
>Traditional Turn-based
It's more like ATB
>>285481646
It is, but some dumbasses don't know that the Jap audio is also in unless you specifically download the rare eng only iso rips.
