Dropped faster than light

Unless you have a 120hz tv in your living room you shouldn't care
>>
>>285470841
well atleast its better than the playstation/vita tv
>>

>$50 extra for controller

Serious question: if you buy it without the controller can you still work it?
>>
>>285471568

People don't? I can't even find 60hz TVs in local stores anymore, and shipping is bonkers for online.

I still haven't watched a 3D movie yet
>>
>>285471637
fucking duh
>>
>>285470841

But... steam already offers in home streaming... for free..?

>People don't?

People don't even KNOW this exists as a concept, much less CARE about refresh rates.

Welcome to the outside world, get out from that basement.
>>
I'm going to get a link, my money is on it supporting regular 360 controllers given the USB ports too. Valve don't need to make cash from a $50 controller, the goal here is to get you to use steam in the living room and replace consoles, they could never release a game or product again and still be rich as fuck.
>>
>>285471820
>Then... plug in the HDMI cord to your TV?
PC is on the bedroom
Living room is far away
Would need a fucking huge HDMI cord

This is fantastic to play couch co-op or just to simply game on the living room by day, go fap to the bedroom by night

>>285472179
>leaving your consoles in the living room

I want normals to leave

>>
>>285470975
Interesting that it doesn't look like its USB powered. I wonder what it will have inside it.
>>
>>285472179
>>285472179
The purpose of this is to remove the need for a small PC/laptop plugged into your TV for streaming shit to, a long ass HDMI cable isn't really practical for most people either, and the maximum they can do is about 40/50 feet reliably.
>>
stupid question, you can plug xbox controllers into this thing, right ?
>>
>>285472449
That's a big cable.
>>
So, i wonder what it's guts are.

Either ARM or low power x86... my guess is AMD semi custom.
>>
>Source 2 will be free to all content developers.

This is all that matters.
>>
>>285472564
You can get a smaller one if you want
>>
>>285472556
How do you suppose this thing handles the drivers? I'm sure it's not running xinput inside it
>>
>>285472485
Likely a smartphone soc, all it has to do is decode 1080/60 h.264
>>
>>285472690
Valve has so much money they could make the engine 100% free and open-source.
>>
>>285472710
SteamOS has support for 360/xBone/ps3/4 controllers by default now, not sure about random logitech shit though
>>
>>285472710
It will have a recent version Linux kernel. It will likely support basically any gamepad that you plug into it.
>>
>>285472732
>h.264
h.265 has been out for a while
>>
>>285472710
then what are the two USB inputs on the back ?

I just want to know whether you're forced to use the Steam Controller® or if you can use whatever.
>>
>>285470841
Utterly pointless.
It'll look like you're watching a YouTube video of the game you're playing, but with added lag.

Play games on your PC, by your PC and spend the money on a PS4 to get the exclusives you won't find anywhere else.
>>
>"English language not supported"
>>
>>285472732
Almost certainly, but will it be a ARM SOC, or will it be x86. This thing could be a little stealth Linux Steam Machine instead of simply a streaming box. There's a lot of lightweight indie and older games that could run on a very low power x86 chip.
>>
>>285472861
And they'd make MORE money since the thing would be pre-made to integrate with steam features. Everyone would go crazy implementing them for funzies and making more gabebucks for valve.
>>
>>285472950
>It will have a recent version Linux kernel.
Will this actually be a machine with an operating system inside it? It leaves the impression that it's just a "wireless" way to stream. Like having a wireless HDMI cable
>>
>>285473017
Yeah but h264 hardware decoding/encoding is supported by most GPUs, I don't think h265 has that, h265 is superior though
>>
Will I be able to play visual novels that aren't on Steam on this thing?
>>
>>285470841
Long HDMI cables work just fine.
>>
>>285470975
>1080p

VAVLE ARE OUR BOIS, THEYR ON THE FOREFRONT OF PC TECHNOLOGY
>>
>>285473315
The R9 390 and 390x will have h.265 I think. Would be nice if they added support for that later
>>
>>285473326
Or Touhou?
>>
>>285473326
Yeah. It's basically just a mini router.
>>
>>285473473
Srry u can't stream to ur 2560x1440 tv m9 :^(
>>
So, figure they'll put some media functionality in there, netflix, etc? I know valve were supposedly seeking to put more of that stuff into SteamOS and Big Picture
>>
>>285473490
I imagine they will as time goes on, only problem is whether or not the guts of the Link will have a h265 decoder, likely not, so probably another hardware revision first.
>>
>>285473192
I'm hoping for an x86 SOC, mostly because it'd be super hackable.
>>
>>285473304
Yes, all these little streaming devices like the Chromecast tend to actually be tiny little Linux machines. Now it may not have any sort of hardware you'd want to use besides a basic graphics core and a h.264 decoder but it will probably be hackable to do more if you want.

I bet they create a special section of Steam Link games that you can play directly on the device when your PC is busy.
>>
>>285474242
I'd say the ideal situation would be these things to pack AMD's Mullins or Carrizo-L, just enough power to play small indie games at 1080p/60fps
>>
>>285471675

almost every tv is 60hz, I've never seen a lcd tv panel that actually operates higher than that; tvs have a different standard of advertising and the sticker refresh is an interpolated figure

most tv signals and media are 24hz

a computer monitor at >60hz is completely different than a tv

this is technology that's decades old now, if you don't understand it yet you're dumb as fuck
>>
>>285474449
Possibly, but we know that Valve have been wanting to expand to ARM by stepping from Windows x86 to Linux x86 before moving to Linux ARM.

A little mainstream device with an understandable restriction in its native library could be a good place for them to start that final step.
