Akantor is so cool. This is the farthest I've ever been in a monster hunter, so I've never experienced these fucking huge ones. I haven't been able to beat him yet, but I'm coming really close. Bought MH4U, my first MH. I am enjoying it, I'm really the combat is like it is. I think it gives a realistic feeling to it that requires you to grow in skill to get things done right.
I also love the idea that when you go to hunt a monster, you need to be prepared on a supply level and you actually have to track it. It makes it feel like you are actually hunting big game, and the quest isn't just a "go here and kill x shit"
I don't think you guys will be proud of me though when I say that I chose the gun lance as my favorite weapon.

Rath is just a piece of shit. You generally don't want to be in front of him because of that roar + jump back fireball combo. Hell, the jump back fireball doesn't even have a tell normally and he can instantly turn around while using it. It's cheap as shit and the only good way to avoid it is to not be in the position to get hit in the first place

The problem with the dive is you might be in the middle of an attack animation when the roar starts so you really can't get out of it at all, and it's not like you can tell when the monster gets damaged enough to roar. Obviously this is far more damning for some weapons than others, but it's still pretty annoying when it happens against monsters like Rathalos who instantly attack after a roar.

remember that your wyvernfire does the same damage regardless where it hits, so you dont have to charge it to the monsters face when theres 2 other people standing there
normal: fullburst
long: wyvern fire
wide: charged shots
after X+A do a shot, then forward X and a shot again, then you can keep comboing without having to do the slow slam, if you get stuck in the shield poke, you can X+A out of it after the first poke and then do the above
