DeSu1 has a more SMT-y and all around better story, while DeSu2 is basically an Eva retelling. Gameplay wise original 2 was better than original 1, but Overclocked made them practically the same and I doubt Record Breaker will change much. Characters are up to your tastes, some hate DeSu1's because they're a bunch of faggots, other hate DeSu2's because they come right out of a random shonen (I personally liked DeSu2's more).
