How are Cowboy Bebop and Akira "weirder stuff"? They're arguably the most well-known animes besides the big three and the most generally well-received in the west and generally crib their sensibilities from western influences. If anything, FMA is some weird-ass shit about some magic robots.

Well, I started with Dragon Ball and Pokemon, but that's standard as hell. Didn't even know what anime meant back then. And the only ones I've watched fully and enjoyed since then are Berserk, Fist of the North Star, Darker than Black (Season 1) and Full Metal Alchemist.
