seeing as itoi has retired the series, i'd rather have a fan-made mother 4 than none at all. that being said they could have easily just made an original IP with mother inspirations and actually profited from it.

yeah but blah blah blah proving a point of some sort. Think they're hung up on Itoi wanting to play someone else's Mother 4. No one stopped to think he pretty much meant "Take my work and run with it", not actually "Make Mother 4 for me"
One thing is sure, that will be very close of Earthbound, as much for the narrative than the gameplay.

Yeah, length is my only concern for this game right now. It's no skin off my teeth since it's free, but I'm hoping they've got enough content for it to stand alongside the rest of the series.

I think they'd face a lot of problems making such a Mother inspired game without it being a fan offshoot. It might feel like too much of a ripoff.
