It's pretty damn cool. No Fish-eye effect yet though.

It's an anticipated game from a well known franchise that got cancelled.
Stuff like this is always interesting. Maybe not to play, but it's a nice look behind the scenes.
>>
>>284610083
I don't really know the appeal of the fisheye lens but I really wish games were a little more abstract like this. I feel like it's something that was sort of around while the saturn was alive but never went anywhere and was never returned to.

Though I guess Mario Galaxy is sorta close.
>>
>>284610275

This is a work-in-progress build as they're porting stuff over to modern OS. There eventually are going to re-implement the effect.
>>
>>284610083
that is a fucking eyesore of a game
>>
This is neat, but I'm not downloading it until the fish lens effect gets incorporated. I want to be able to experience it for the first time as it was meant to be.

Plus the fact that my internet is slow as molasses right now so I can't really download anything.
>>
>>284611891

It was a Saturn game. I don't know what else to tell you.
>>
This demo doesn't come off as particularly good.
It's obviously an unfinished product and the lack of the original camera kills a lot of the presentation but I can see why Sega had little faith in it.

its more that there are various builds. the one released is one that was featured in a commercial, it didn't have the fisheye yet. that was a later build.

he said there were more builds to come, so there will likesly be one or two of the other ones with the fish eye released.

Im more curious bout that failed boss engine
>>
>>284609565
What are you a faggot? Why wouldn't you be interested in a prototype of an unreleased game from a popular franchise? Not only do you get to play and see what it could have been like but, if you are more tech savvy, you can start ripping apart the game to see what hidden resources it contains. That is really fun to do in prototypes because nothing is cleaned up yet so more stuff is left behind.

I do wonder how well this game would have done if it was released. Perhaps the fate of Sega would have been different. Or maybe not.

It looked like shit when it was first revealed and it still looks like shit today.

The only reason anyone holds interest on this is because of the behind the scenes drama over its development.
>>
>>284621845
I don't know how to screenshot it. Screenshots only show me the console instead of the game
>>
>>284622067
>Perhaps the fate of Sega would have been different.

You're an idiot if you think a single Sonic game would have turned them around.

Their fate was sealed the moment they pissed off Tom Kalinske.
>>
Was x-treme really going to have these gravity mechanics? They are pretty fun but I haven't seen them in any of the video demos.
>>
>>284620597
There is no music in the build.

Chris Senn released the conceptual soundtrack he made during development (and some songs he made after in 2006) years ago.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDE73D1143AE03039

None of these songs would've made it into the game, since Howard Drossin was supposed to compose X-treme.
>>
>>284609565
>>284622067
this game was doom to fail from the very beginning
>>
>>284622427
From what we see of the later builds, they partially ditched that gravity mechanic.

I mean on paper it sounds cool, but trying to design complex levels around it- SONIC levels- would have been a nightmare.

Instead they just included the fisheye, and went with regular 3D levels, but with a lot of loops and shit so you could have that cool roller coaster feel.

there was also that other early Nights" version with Jade Gully, which is like, just a large open map.
>>
>>284622562
So Space Queen wouldn't have been a thing?

what a shame.

best track there.
>>
>>284622304
I'm not saying it would have and I'm not saying it wouldn't have. I still think that releasing this game would have been a better option than a port of Sonic 3D Blast.

Honestly, it would have tided people over. One of the main problems with the Saturn was a lack of games, let alone a Sonic title. This would have calmed that itch down. This is how bad the Saturn was in America. So bad, it pretty much sealed SEGA's fate and killed any hope for the Dreamcast to live a long life.

It wouldn't have aged well, but for the time, it would do.

well the fish eye was used for that purpose. to give you better view of your surroundings.

Then Galaxy happened and just made the stages small planets, and Sonic Lost World did a similar thing.

I still refuse to believe Lost World wasnt in some way influenced by the mystery surrounding "what could have been" Sonic Xtreme
