Oh they did give them review copies. That's how the bad reviews came out a day before release.
Their point is that maybe they won't give out review copies next time. Which means the reviews come out a few days after the game comes out. Which means less site traffic on release day, and less revenue from ads. Speaking of which, they'll pull their own ads for the game from the website, so that's double revenue loss.

Because Cage's games are glorified QTEs: the Game and he's aware of it, pretentiousness or not. The Order: 1886 actively DETESTS the fact it's a game because that means it needs to have gameplay and can't just tell the story like movies it so badly wants to be.
